This thread is a hot mess. If you want to do a monster thread about the O-line, stick to the O-line. It's our greatest need, and worthy of a thread and discussion.

kinda wondering if everyone is kinda busy with the member guest at cypress point this weekend or something

getting 50 yard line tixs for the 2023 big game in palo alto is probably not gonna be an issue

what up b&g?

"hot mess," thx u for the kind compliment

reality is that coach wilcox's #1 targeted priority candidate among the 8 interviewees that he hopes to have wrapped up before the big recruiting december 3rd/4th recruiting weekend is washington offensive line coach Scott Huff who would be brought in as a play calling run game co-offensive coordinator

ur rite that the o-line is "our greatest need," huff is absolutely the best candidate to develop current talent/upgrade thru recruiting our offensive line...that's why coach wilcox said last week that he knows what characteristics he's looking for in the co offensive coordinator position...washington currently got 5 offensive line commits in the 2023 class of which 2 elisha jackett & soane faasolo from menlo athletron were recruited by angus

the big issue is that our self serving con artist athletic director james arthur knowlton don't wanna pay the current market rate for an elite co offensive coordinator which is well over $1,000,000+ out of athletic department funds & is trying to push this cost onto donors...read knowlton's notes in the above post, ok?...the sooner andrew mcgraw is the next athletic director in berkeley the better, jimmy "shell game" k is just trying to maximize the salaries for mark fox ($1,900,000+) and himself ($1,300,000+ thru 2029) without departmental dollars

so agreed we gotta focus on cal's monster offensive line but would it be ok if i leave this tommy chrstakos story before i head out the door for a noon walking round at the rock?

funny tommy c story: decide after modern yoga one day to go play golf, so got my clubs in the trunk of my car & head to the closest course which is talking stick (public facility with a casino & 36 holes designed by my idol bill coore)

get to the 1st tee late in the afternoon & get paired up with 3 beer drinking asu students who like to talk **** so this is gonna be fun, right...while they ride in carts like lazy azz alky losers i walk & carry my clubs while hydrating with ice cold green bottled perriers & ask them friendly questions like "why do you guys ride in carts, do you also park in the handicapped zone in the parking lot?"

shocky is a real charmer

so after a couple holes into our round they notice shocks got a cal golf team headcover & the bears logo etched on his super light black mackenzie leather walking bag...they tell me they got a friend on the cal football team

this is a loose transcript of that conversation:

shocky: so whose your buddy on the cal football team?

3 asu guys: our bro tommy christakos, we all went to chaparral high school together, we talk to him almost every day

shocky: so why don't tommy put on some serious weight & be a pass catching threat tight end?...if he ever wanna get paid in the nfl that's the only way that's every gonna happen, he's never gonna run a 4.3 40 like nfl wide receivers

3 asu guys: he don't like getting hit that much

shocky: hmmmm...that's too bad, does tommy ever tell you how much hotter girls are in tempe vs berkeley?

3 asu guys (with big smiles): yeah, every time we talk!!!

cal's monster offensive line exclusive announcement:

multiple sources within memorial stadium strongly believe that scott huff got the culinary skills to potentially surpass benji as the top chef within the california golden bear program...if nothing else they would make a dynamic 1-2 grilling team on recruiting weekends in berkeley

gordon ramsey could not be reached for comment after being sentenced to 5 days community service of making fries & picking up trash in the parking lot at mcdonalds as a result of a recent "misunderstanding" with a sous chef

but can scott huff do more than prepare tasty meals, can he actually recruit?

washington got 5 offensive line recruits for the 2023 class, that was a factor in huff being the only holdover coach being retained by coach deboer in seattle this season

but most importantly, scott (who graduated from horizon high school on 56th street, he not from 63rd) successfully recruited the unicorn, a curvy brunette yoga latina female from asu, yeah not sure what shannon saw in him but whatever

congrats to slater zellers as he is leaving berkeley as a highly productive 4 year starting longsnapper, he graduated this may with a degree in legal studies & did the cert program this fall

but don't worry california golden bears fans, the next longsnapper in berkeley is considered a generational talent that will play in the national football league

slater graduated from notre dame high school in north scottsdale (which is 5 minutes down the hill from my house, his brother is an assistant football coach at the hs, all 3 of my kids are saints...sort of) & when he signed with cal back in the day my daughter taylor told me sometimes threw food at her in the cafeteria

yeah zellers definitely likes to hurl projectiles or something, good luck with the upcoming nfl free agency circuit slater

Any indication on if our big players are planning to return or not? Plummer, skill positions, Cindric, etc. I know a lot of them are probably having those discussions with coaches and family now
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?

jack plummer: dad told me he's going to return unless there is significant nfl interest which is not the case despite his off the charts wonderlic score

jaydn ott: his landlord thinks he's returning, moms is very pro berkeley education, firing billy m was really important, 2023 hesiman trophy candidate if cal's monster offensive line does their job on the field

ashton hayes: roommates girlfriend told me ucla pregame while we were on the field that this is a toss up, moms not happy with his playing time, does he want to be a return team standout & compete for starting/back up running back snaps?

jmichael sturdivant: his landlord thinks he's returning, family values berkeley education, loved by his teammates

mavin anderson: returning, moving into the wide receiver house, speedster was criminally misused by billy m

jeremiah hunter: probably returning per his landlord, offensive coordinator needs to assure him of 2023 showcasing like his standout performance vs ucla

matthew cindric: cindo not likely to transfer or go nfl free agency route but medically retiring after playing the colorado game in significant pain is a real possibility...he rooms with will craig & braxten croteau who have already medically retired

who is gonna be crowned the myles jernigan (2022 winner) championship trophy for the most improved 2023 defensive player that is currently under the radar?

that's gonna be 6'2" 210 lbs hard hitting safety #31 hunter barth from chandler arizona (played at queen creek high school) who got 3 years of eligibility remaining after playing special tams this season & earning all district academic honors

hunter's cheerful moms juleen (a nurse, dad mike is a judge) told me after the ucla game that her academically focused son is seeking admission into the haas/spieker biz school & that he conscientiously cleans up after his roommates at their house

barth got the ideal safety role model/mentor in roommate daniel scott (85 total tackles, 57 solo & 3 interceptions) who is gonna get paid in the national football league

craig woodson (52 total tackles, 22 solo & 2 interceptions) got one safety starting job locked up for 2023 so barth is gonna be competing with raymond woodie (9 total tackles) for the other starting slot

miles williams (who could potentially slide to safety too) is the runner up for the coveted myles jernigan championship trophy but was not considered since he's already broken out with his stellar aggressive play in the last couple of games during the 2022 season

yeah hunter barth is not a dumb azz & he's definitely not a messy azz either

just spoke to a former bears nfl running back who got my cell number after reaching out to my daughter taylor on social media

in response to the post above he told me that generally speaking pitchouts are most effective with elite speedsters like jaydn ott who can make magic in open space & take it to the ******* house for epic touchdowns runs but that more pitchouts wouldn't been huge difference makers with damien moore & chris brown as starting running backs last season & moore starting the 1st game this season because they're "too slow" so north south quick hitting running playcalls are the best utilization of their talents but also not gonna get much yardage either given the struggles of the offensive line

this is hopefully gonna be the transcript from the interview between coach wilcox & the next offensive coordinator:

coach wilcox: so based upon your review of our team's 2022 game videos, what would be your preference for the best playcalls in our first game vs north texas when we travel to denton in september of 2023?

interviewee: look, first things first, wanted in two states can't move wrong but we gotta emphasize pitchouts and fake pitchouts to our heisman trophy candidate jaydn ott to make sure he gets his 1500+ yards and make opposing teams think twice about blitzing up the middle on almost every play and lighting up jack plummer...we gotta make young children stare at the field in wondrous awe and make the old golden bears remember their favorite memories of a lifetime at memorial stadium when jaydn takes pitchouts in space and is off to the ******* races

coach wilcox: what are you talking about, would you please speak more clearly?

interviewee: cold hearted orb that rules the night, if we don't call pitchouts to jaydn this **** is never gonna get right

coach wilcox: great, got it!...when can you start?...your office is down the hallway

Winter Knowlton Notes:

Dear Friends of Cal Athletics,

As I sit here after hockey practice and an exciting Big Game victory, I just want all of you to know that I'm listening to you regarding your goals and dreams for the Cal Athletic Department.

That's why we are 100% focused in working with the Office of Civil Rights and ramping up our DVJIB efforts to ensure our exciting Softball, Sand Volleyball & Quidditch facilities are fully built out with zero compromises along the way to ensure excellence for ALL of our wonderful true student athletes!

Detective Harry Bosch likes to say everyone counts or nobody counts and that's currently being reflected in our football program's search for an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. We are not going to break the bank for them, ok? We've got a lot of amazing donors with endless patience and pocket books to fund these hires, we're not going to sacrifice the future of Field Hockey and Gymnastics to spend precious departmental funds on these overpriced football coaches.

Men's Basketball coaches led by Mark Fox and hard working staff are working diligently to win a basketball game (and by that I'm not talking about an exhibition match) this season, trust me we've all got Wednesday December 7th circled on our calendars for our exciting match up with Eastern Washington! Since we reported attendance of 1,200 at the last game, we need all of you to represent our California Golden Bears at this match and please also consider doubling your donation to our Holiday Athletic Department Staff Salary Fundraising Drive (we're already 82% of the way to our current goal)!!!

For this notes I would like to profile my latest key departmental hire, Markeisha Everett, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer:

Markeisha comes to us with zero West Coast experience and no real understanding of football game traditions but she did participate in hiring our enthusiastic gameday announcer who in her shrill voice consistently talks over the Cal Band.

Ms. Everett shares my vision that the Communications team of 11 staffers is not overstaffed and not in need or rightsizing, don't you agree that our leading scorer for the Lacrosse team should receive the same communication experience during their time in Berkeley as Jaydn Ott?

Lastly Markeisha is doing a great job of managing her time by not responding to donor emails and also not sitting in on a recent student driven ticket revenue generation/branding meeting in order to check on the Amazon winter sales opportunities in her closed office. Hearing details of failing employees like Vasileios Iliopoulous is not productive in that hearing all that negative feedback would not be consistent with our departmental team goal of deemphasizing football and men's basketball.

I wish you and your loved ones nothing but the best during these joyous Holidays, it truly is the Summer of Love in Berkeley!!!

the #1 candidate scott huff as co run game offensive coordinator is in discussions which will require a pairing with a compatible co aerial game game offensive coordinator while washington counteroffers with microsoft money...this is not a done deal

2 key issues

1st, huff's employment contract with washington (his wife shannon is an attorney in tempe, he's making $708,000 right now) got major buy out provisions that stipulates that unless he leaves to become a play calling offensive coordinator there's gonna be triggered payout penalties...and not surprisingly prospective passing game co offensive coordinators wanna call the plays too

this is why coach wilcox refused to clarify who was calling plays the last 2 games tho anybody with any sources within the program knows that geep was dialing it all up...on a go forward basis it's possible that play calling responsibilities are gonna be a super secret or something but don't tell nobody that, ok?

2nd, jim knowlton's absolute mismanagement of finances is resulting in him tryna do the offensive coordinator & offensive line hires without significant athletic department funds, he is counting on his cadre of patient & generous donors to cover football staffing costs thereby allowing him to continue maxing out on his bonuses & the quidditch practice facility

Go Bears!
The thing is our glaring is weakness is o-line but some of it has to do with our offensive concepts and playcalling (see last two games). I sure hope Huff knows how to playcall if we select him. There are some young bright minds out there doing a lot with little and they would love a shot at being OC at a P5 school. Now if Huff can replicate what they were doing at UW, that's fine with me. But can he? He was never a playcaller.

2035 california golden bears football trivia quiz: name the bears kicker back in the day during the 2022 season that started in front of then true freshmen now 10 time nfl pro bowl kicker michael luckhurst?

although not the primary reason why the bears lost those games, reality is that this season's missed field goals at both south bend & boulder negatively impacted the outcomes

wish dario luck in his next endeavor (his scholly was not extended another season by coach wilcox) but it was a huge mistake for coach barton to name him as the starting kicker all season instead of michael luckhurst just like it was a mistake for coach thompson to start damien moore in the 1st game instead of superstar jaydn ott

this is a reflection of coach wilcox's blessing/curse of rewarding loyalty (favoring upperclassmen) & not ruthlessly putting the program 1st & starting more talented true freshmen from day one

college football's modern landscape is no long primarily all about life lessons like hard work, waiting your turn, etc., it's about showcasing elite talent for the national football league...or else

and so the michael luckhurst era begins (a season too late) in berkeley, he will be the 1st team all pac 12 kicker in the 2023 season
