right now there are conversations with dayton portal transfer mike sharavjamts (front row left) a highly skilled 6'8" combo guard/forward from ulaanbaatar mongolia who as a freshman last season made the atlantic 10 all rookie team...mike wuz born in phoenix & his dad sharavjamats wuz the 1st asian harlem globetrotter...he got 3 years of remaining eligibility & would be an instant fan favorite (with more branding/marketing nil opportunities than anywhere else in the usa in the culturally diverse san francisco bay area) along with being a multiple year starter in berkeley

I'm a bit shocked that you can get NW and Stanford offers with a 3.4 and 29 ACT. 29 on the ACT is not good. My daughter got a good score on the Pre ACT but is aiming for at least 35 on the test to have a chance at some of the schools she is interested in. FYI, she has no interest in Stanfraud, (thank you God)

This exactly. I remember reading in the early 80's that Furd required a minimum 1000 SAT for their football players. I'm sure the threshold is higher for all sports except football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball for Furd athletes.

ASU landed 4 ex-Bears via portal. The other two are key OL Coleman and backup RB Brooks.
Overall ASU landed 29 through the portal and 20 high school recruits including highly touted bay area QB Rashada from Pittsburgh High.

Many people are penciling a Cal win against ASU this fall because of what a dumpster fire ASU has been. But, as Lee Corso would say, "not so fast".

But, in case you think 49 new players is a roster makeover, Colorado under Sanders, has amassed 49 players, including a 5 star, just in the portal and an additional 21 high schoolers, including a 5 star. And additional 8 of those are 4 star compared to ASU's total of 3 4 stars out of their 49 new players.

It's not exactly USC or Oregon, which seem to land 4 and 5 stars at will, but these guys will no longer be pushovers.

It also depends a lot on the positions. My in the know Furd friend said D-Line is by far the hardest area for them to recruit. My understanding is that QB and O-Line generally have the highest grades and test scores.

heart, asu got a rapidly growing young fanbase unlike cal which fails to connect with students (the con artist & his marketing bureaucrat markeisha everrett have shown no interest in allowing students to attend football & basketball games for free), young alums (if u never went to games as a student ur probably not gonna start going once u got disposable income) & those without any university affiliation (marketing failures by the athletic department with the raiders, warriors & soon a's leaving the east bay marketplace) & just got the prestigious aau designation (notre dame also received the elite research recognition) in an increasingly affluent state so its not surprising that the sun devils football team got resources

but ben coleman (the family plan from day one wuz always to earn a berkeley degree & then transfer to tempe, moms is a sun devil) is injured & probably won't play this season, decarlos brooks is talented but wuz never gonna beat out nfl upside talent jaydn ott and both dario longhetto/slater zellers were encouraged to move along to create scholly space for generational talents michael luckhurst/david bird

like the bears, the sun devils will be starting a dynamic inexperienced quarterback but both programs 2023 seasons will be determined by the play of the offensive lines which both got huge question marks

the september 28th battle in berkeley will be fiercely contested, the bears got a much better d & that should be the difference on the scoreboard

juarez, ur stanford friend's gpa commentary about quarterbacks & offensive linemen is accurate, would also add special teams kickers, punters & long snappers as positions with an abundance of high gpa true student athlete high school prospects that should be able to clear berkeley & palo alto admissions

and that's why the series of sorry lazy azz recruiting offensive line coaches which wuz 100% avoidable during the coach wilcox era has resulted in a depleted o-line room that coach bloesch & coach saffell are tirelessly working for a potential resurrection of cal's monster offensive line for the 2023 season & beyond

goldy, big lume had no meaningful preexisting relationships with the staff or family/friends in the bay area, no guarantees of starting on the offensive line, an opportunity to renegotiate better nil terms/girlfriend housing with louisville & only 1 year of eligibility which would require learning the bears offense in 15 minutes this fall
