I got see Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault battling it out in the Sierras circa 1988 at the Tour of California. Bicycle racing was my life goal at age 9-10 and seeing my hero in person (LeMond) was really awesome. It was worth the wait!

ireland top 10:

1) royal county down: front nine is arguably the best 9 holes in golf on planet earth, only criticism is the extreme level of difficulty

2) ballybunion: a rollicking adventure alongside the irish sea, so sublime like your favorite song

3) lahinch: mackenzie masterpiece, home of the dell hole, a blind par 3 with the punchbowl green set in a valley (shot is aimed over a white rock on a hillside)

4) royal portrush: hopefully the british open will return again to northern ireland after their last open's attendance records exceeding expectation...a rory or homakawa victory would be epic

5) carne: scruffy in its conditioning but one of the most fun golf experiences in the world with some of the highest sand dunes imaginable

6) portmarnock: this dublin gem is charming with her low key timeless beauty makes u wanna kiss her

7) the island: not visited by the tourist buses, this underrated links rivals kinda nearby portmarnock

8) county sligo: rugged golf in a natural landscape that is exhilarating

9) county louth: see above

10 old head: arguably the biggest wasted architecture site in golf, the 1000 foot cliffs on 3 sides (course is on a peninsula) deserves a better design...not for those with vertigo who are uncomfortable leaning over the edge of the golden gate bridge

adare manor & the k club are to be avoided at all costs unless ur a stupid american, don't be a dumb azz
Of the ones I have played,
1. Lahinch. LOVE LOVE LOVE this course. I've played some special courses, this one is on the very short list of all time favorites.
2. Portmarnock. They are a little full of themselves but the course is all that
3. Waterville. The most accessible of the links courses I played. Really enjoyed the course.
4. The Island. Very underrated. It wasn't in great condition when I was there, had a lot of recent play.
5. Ballybunion. I know I'm in the minority but there was something about the routing that just felt contrived to me. I didn't love it. I need to give it another play or two, just to be sure it wasn't me having a bad day. I'd say this is the links course most Americans not in the know would really like.

understood tequila, lahinch is a very special place...here's the iconic blind par 3 dell hole, note that open champion shane lowry is aiming his tee shot over the little white rock on the hill which is moved daily to correspond to the pin position...in multiple plays the locals have shared with me that the best strategy is to over club & use the backboard & sideboards to funnel the shot towards the hole, there are only trap doors for shots that come up short

shocky has now played 99 of the current golf magazine list world top 100 courses after walking 36 holes today with his young irish golf professional (plays on the irish youth development circuit)/caddie kian hankin (we did handstands together on the beach holes flat teeing grounds together tho he can't do multiple stomach crunches like the monster) at the tom doak designed st patricks golf links in rospenna northern ireland

what's ur passion(s) in life?

this song perhaps more than any other song (sung by the lead singer who kinda looks like modern yoga master teacher anton) reflects my philosophy in life of screaming ur heart out (stormin' the floor/field/yoga room) & living with no regrets (will we always say we tried?)...will we make our mark this time (helping rescue doggys with fundraising to protect them in safe spaces) & telling (to the best of our sorry azz abilities) those that we love that we love them?

funny modern yoga moment:

so shocky wanna be a substitute yoga teacher at his future t-rex studio in yountville, so he asks for permission at the end of class to say a few words after savasana which is kinda reluctantly agreed to by the teacher

and then he slides up to the front next to her & starts rambling (mad respect for yoga teachers & the prep work they do in thinking thru cogent/coherent closing messages, they r not dumb azzs) about short armed t-rexs not being able to reach **** on the top shelves at whole foods or something & everybody in the class is kinda confused...shocky senses he's losing everybody's attention so he quickly wraps up with a quote from t grizzly, "on 10 paws we stood tall, namaste"

then the teacher quickly gets up & moves away from him stating "wow, we should all get whatever shocky is smoking"

she wuz not gonna die on that hill with him that day

shut the **** up, shocky#

I guess some folks are new to Shocky's threads? It's July. Not much going on right now, so he fills in with some shtick,,, a little song and dance. This is what he does, while we're waiting for Fall Camp. Some like it more than others.

Personally, I rarely get tired of discussing Cal Football, so start your own discussion thread and I bet a lot of people will respond to it. Go Bears!
