Cal needs some players to depart as the staff has indicated they intend to pursue several more players when the portal opens. I do think there will likely be some departures that some Cal fans will be surprised by.

So yes those that can have a degree in hand by summer but not in a starting role could enter. But others that have not made progress in the program and have been recruited over will have decisions to make.

There's always guys that leave after Spring Practice now and, as you note, there are always likely to be some that we didn't want to lose. Just hoping for a "net positive" this round.

rush (where u going on ur roadtrip?...hopefully not uranus, that place stinks), no joke, the worth ethic of buc-ee's employees is legendary from both welcoming/helpful personalities & also working their azzs off...working at buc-ee's isn't like getting stoned before the evening shift at the coos bay flying beaver convenience store & not doing **** until clocking out at 2:00 am

but there is one kinda disturbing aspect of the buc-ee's work culture, all employees other than the general manager aren't allowed to have their phones...on the shoski drive from dallas to shreveport last december (which also included a quick stop off interstate 20 exit 431 at trinity valley college to make sure isaiah crosby is not driving all the cowgirls crazy downtown or something) en route to the independence bowl, the texas flirty check out associate tole me the no phone policy is challenging cuz she got a little girl in grade school & if the school wants to contact her in an emergency that they gotta call the buc-ee's employee assistance hotline first which then conveys the message to the store general manager who then tells her wut's up...that's pretty messed up

let's be real here, the day buc-ee's adds miso soup (with extra tofu & shiitake mushrooms) to its offerings, that's the day it will become my favorite restaurant on planet earth bumping out nobu malibu & blondie's pizza

2024 masters tournaments at augusta national: 2nd round update

cade uluave gotta smooth azz putting stroke with ice in his veins & tj sessions with the walk off hole in one!

max homa: favorite shot of the day wuz a sweeping 300+ yard 3 wood with a big azz hook off the tee on the downhill dogleg par 4 10th hole, until max started working with swing instructor mark blackburn he could only rely upon a fade...homa nation is thrilled with the current co leader at 6 under par after today's 71 as homa will be playing with liv terrorist supporter bryson decahmbeau mañana

colin morikawa: the chineese/japanese haas biz grad is fearless, missing a couple of putts will not stop colin from seeking the 3rd leg of the golfer's grand slam (winning all 4 major tournaments)...currently at 3 under par after a 70 in brutal high winds he is tied for 5th

byeong hun an: continues to take advantage of the par 5s (2 birdies today), ben is now 1 under par & tied for 8th

coach walter chun has set the starting line up for next week's final regular season tournament (the best 5 out of 6 scores will count) at shocky's beloved pasatiempo before the pac 12 finals at desert forest later this month:

2024 california golden bear spring ball: practice #10

lighter practice this morning as often is the case the day before live violence scrimmage action on saturday plus there wuz the chief keef master's putting golf tournament in the end zone of memorial stadium which wuz won by the leader of cal's monster offensive line tj sessions...yeah tj is a renaissance man

kicker ryan coe got good trajectory on his field goals & also 55 yard range that will be tested in game simulations

interesting to hear vic state that sophomore ryan mcculloch is one of the "most athletic" guys in the program...right now ryan is 1st in line to get snaps behind the former florida project david reese who flashed late last season & xavier carlton who got one final opportunity to put it all together with his remarkable length & skillsets in his quest to get paid in the national football league

coach so'oto confirming the monster's reports that outside linebacker is the team's #1 priority in the upcoming transfer portal...vic is targeting "one or two" alpha apex predator edge defenders that can **** up opposing quarterbacks that got an interest in berkeley academics & nfl development...indiana's anthony jones who officially visited berkeley last week is still the #1 recruiting target...also expected to officially trip to cal on april 16th-18th is tarleton state's hybrid defensive end 6'4" 255 lbs josh griffis who got 7 sacks last season, the grad transfer got 2 years of remaining eligiblity

Mrs. Rush had some business in Houma, Louisiana, so we made the drive. Houma may not be on any golf tour and hopefully we never experience a bowl game there, but dinner at Cristiano Ristorante last night was excellent.

As for Buc-ee's, I didn't see any miso soup, but they had these great stocking stuffers for your fellow Buc-ee's and golf lovers

Expected to be a very rainy day today in Berkeley. Not ideal for the first major scrimmage for the team. McCulloch has a chance to be a very good pass rusher. Jones the Indiana transfer projects behind Reese and Griffis would be in line to play behind Carlton. Jones is more a standup player while Griffis can play with his hand on the ground.

colin morikawa is in legit pursuit of the 3rd leg of golf's grand slam (winning all 4 majors) & will be playing in the final round with the world's #1 ranked golfer scottie scheffler (who grew up in the dallas suburb of highland park) after a 69 which puts him in 2nd place & 6 under par

max homa couldn't make any birdie putts (good rolls but maybe speed off a hair) but made a lotta ice in his veins par puts including the critical one on the par 4 18th hole to keep in 3rd place & 5 under par

ben an is unflappable & birdied both the 15th & 16th holes to finish in a tie for 9th place at 1 under par

how is this possible?...coach martin always liked to say during the cal's monster class era that u gotta go thru something to get something in life...a berkeley degree (which requires a mind numbing amount of tireless work) ensures that one is mentally tuff for life's challenges...yeah the bear will not quit, the bear will not die (unless they eat the 30 day old deep fried barracuda at buc-ee's)

this 3 california golden bears in the 2024 top 10 heading into the final round can be credited to legendary coach steve desimone (who is such a fiery competitor that when shocky drained a clutch 9 foot twisting par putt on the 18th hole at cypress point to win the highly contested match along with his partner slim wadie that coach wouldn't talk to me for a 15 minute cooling off period) & coach walter chun...yeah everybody luvs des

my take is that this is by far the deepest team during the wilcox era of relative mediocrity, really think this roster could win big this fall in the acc & there's honestly no tomorrow if that don't happen, the time is now which is why shocky is gonna attend all 12 games in person this fall with FREE pregame tailgate parties at buc-ee's

the linebackers wuz my biggest concern heading into spring camp, the addition of grad transfers teddye buchanan & liam johnson considerably strengthens the inside backer room (cade uluave got 1st team all acc upside & nobody works harder than hunter barth)...the outside linebacking room behind david reese & xavier carlton is now the #1 targeted area for improvement via the transfer portal, running with the 2s is athletic ryan mcculloch & a walk on...the staff desperately needs to close on another alpha edge defender asap

and yeah the defensive line is kinda a mix of multiple guys but the reality is that there aren't any elite defensive linemen in the transfer portal that don't wanna sec money...ricky correia got intriguing upside if he can get his conditioning to a non stop motor point of violence

watching the teams during warm ups in shreveport it wuz shocking how much slower the bears wuz compared to the raiders at the skill positions but those concerns have been addressed with the significant portal additions of SPEED based players at wide receiver & defensive backs that are replacing the much slower players on the roster at that time...there will be much faster bears with footspeed against uc davis on august 31 with tobias merriweather & mikey matthews now the starting wideouts alongside trond grizzell...and marcus harris (the fastest guy in the program) starting & ja'ir smith & isaiah crosby potentially also running with the 1s are key additions to the defensive backs room that couldn't close on balls in the air during 2023

fernando mendoza & chandler rogers are not stinson beach high school's jared goff but fully expect much improved qb production with much better playcalling & development by coach bloesch (the best coach on the staff) & qb coach sterlin gilbert

jaydn ott is the best running back in the acc & a legit heisman candidate if the bears win big on a national level, kadarius calloway (who could be the next sam jackson to flunk out if he don't got any academic ambition, he's not quite the nfl talent he's banking on right now) is an elite talent of speed and size & my boy javian "the jet" thomas is the FUTURE (just like haas biz ad grad mike saffell is the future head coach in waiting) of the cal football program...when the jet touches the ******* football, u got action & that's the magic of cal football

jack endries has put on 10 lbs of muscle after sometimes getting pushed around last season & got all acc tight end upside...the back ups are working hard but nobody has stepped up yet among the 2s

right now there are 6 trusted trench workers among cal's monster offensive line with tj sessions, sioape vatikani, nick morrow, matthew wykoff, bastian swinney & rush reimers...another portal transfer is being targeted during next week's dialing for dollars

ryan longwell is the worst coach on the staff (vic so'oto is a figurehead special teams coach, anybody who put the unshifty jeremiah hunter as the punt returner for 2 unproductive seasons is not knowledgeable in this area) but ryan coe got a nfl level leg, the punting will be fine & david bird is the gene simmons of long snapping

kinda wishing now shocky planned better (instead of a in & out weekend game at the valley club of montecito plus a quick meal at arigato sushi which got good people watching on state street) to attend next saturday's spring game, hopefully u & others will report from memorial stadium re: the 2024 talent level
