2024 zurich new orleans pga team tournament: 3rd round update
michael kim & kh lee are only 3 strokes off the lead heading into tomorrow's final round with the volatile alternate shot format after a 62 & are tied for 5th at 20 under par...michael won a pga tournament a couple of years ago in iowa before he reconfigured his swing with sean foley from a wipey cut to a powerful draw, mañana could potentially be the day for another california golden bear to be in the pga winner's circle
despite his partner kurt kitayama playing like he had a friday nite boutbon street hangover or something, collin morikawa had his best putting day of 2024...after a 10 foot birdie putt on the watery par 5 18th hole, collin's caddie jj embraced his guy with some emotional words instead of the usual taking off their hats and shaking hands thing that is customary as they exited the green...that heartfelt exchange brought the famous 10,000 megawatt morikawa smile out
The Bears (+33) are T2 & just three shots off the lead with 18 holes to play in the #Pac12Golf Championship! Cal's third-round 360 was the lowest in the field.#GoBearspic.twitter.com/bKOTXQQ6vN
absolutely clutch en fuego playing with better course management today in limiting big numbers (still had a double bogey & 2 triple bogeys, desert forest is that unforgiving) as the bears are now positioned to win the final pac 12 championship in the history of planet earth tomorrow tied for 2nd with washington & 3 strokes behind host school asu...today's total low team round of 360 strokes is even more remarkable as all 5 participating player's scores counted with aaron du disqualified (good news is that aaron is on the tee sheet for tomorrow after an incorrect scorecard signing)
freshman ethan fang played a national junior tournament schedule as a top 5 player in the 2024 class, he's in 2nd place & is battle tested enough to bring home the individual title kinda like max homa at los angeles country club and collin morikawa at eugene country club back in the day
and senior sampson zheng shooting a world class 6 under par 65 (the usual par 5 7th hole is being played as a brutal elevated tee ball 551 yard par 4 thereby lowering par from 72 to 71) catapulted the bears from the the middle of the pack to almost the lead & is tied for 5th place
the other half of the dynamic freshmen duo aka the paper clip twins eric lee is tied for 18th despite a triple bogey 7 on the par 4 18th hole
the bears also need continued solid play from jeewon park (tied for 27th) & nathan wang (tied for 34th)
shocky wishes he could walk with his bears tomorrow in carefree but he & his daughter taylor got broadway tixs (the magic of broadway almost always makes the monster cry or something) for the great gatsby in the big apple...and so them california golden bears will hopefully play tomorrow with big smiles on their faces (golf is fun) like boats against the current, yeah the blue light of the future is clearly visible across the lake, let's ******* go!!!
https://instagr.am/p/C6KBIVpOAYN former oregon state all american running back portal transfer damien martinez commits to miami, do you got ur tix(s) for saturday october 5th when them hurricane invade memorial stadium?
yeah buc-ee's needs to get their **** together & start offering miso soup and japanese a5 waygu, multiple bags of doritos & double packs of hostess hohos washed down by a red bull is only gonna take u so far in life
https://instagr.am/p/C2QMC0KOIIs fun fact: the above fire dancer (fyi that's body paint) tole me on her break (she performs once an hour) that by miami dade county law that a fire marshall must be in attendance during her performances...muy caliente
https://instagr.am/p/Ck9nEVWOwz5 coach madsen is utilizing his nba connections to actively recruit 6'7" 190 lbs stanford portal transfer andrej stojakovic from nearby carmichael (short drive on gamedays for the fam to haas pavilion)
— Stanford Men's Basketball (@StanfordMBB) March 8, 2024
andrej wuz a mcdonalds all american as a senior at the academically rigorous jesuit high school & averaged 7.8 ppg as a true freshman with a advanced court awareness & fluid ball movement...his dad peja wuz a 3 time nba all star so nil dollars won't be as critical an issue for the affluent family in this recruitment as much as nba skills development, a clear pathway to a starting position at the wing & earning a world class education...the california golden bears basketball program checks all those boxes
I think it's time Shocky returns to the promise land @ Haas! It may not be the same but MadDog needs an opposite floor seat general to mean mug the ACC competition!
5'11" 180 lbs +1 athletic oklahoma portal transfer jasiah wagoner from spanaway high school (spokane) with the commitment to them california golden bears
wagoner got elite SPEED along with a developing body to withstand the physical play this fall in the acc
jasiah is not a dumb azz, he got a 3.25 gpa & graduated high school early in order to be an early enrollee in beautiful norman
berkeley is the right place for this young man that good hair to be tested against acc competition with the bears trusted defensive back/life mentoring coaches tre watson & terrence brown while building generational wealth for a potential nfl future & hard work in the classrooms of berkeley
the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (including the pacific northwest)
congrats to patrick mcmorris on getting selected in the 6th round by the miami dolphins
sincere shocky apology to patrick & his family (particularly malik) for dogging his nfl future, talking **** about patrick's 40 speed wuz a dumb decision on my part
https://instagr.am/p/C6R0QmzrNn7 and good luck to the 2023 leader of cal's monster offensive line haas biz ad grad (also got a masters in education) matthew cindric with the minnesota vikings...cindo may be the smartest bear of them all plus he ran a blazing 4.99 40 (which wuz a top 5 time for o-linemen at the 2024 nfl combine) but let's be real here he don't got good hair, got it?
and also props/best wishes to relentless pursuit & berkeley haas global access program grad jackson sirmon with the new york jets...jackson, don't listen to ur dad & eat at shoneys every day, that **** dogfood will kill u or something
2025 high motor linebacker 6'3" 220 lbs trent spence from klein collins high school (houston) is gonna officially trip to the left coast on june 13th-16th
Lot of schools coming into Texas but missing out on an athletic, violent 6'3 2025 LB with positional versatility.
Watch Klein Collins' Trent Spence's junior film, then go see him in person. How he doesn't have double-digit offers yet is beyond me. https://t.co/jP809rD6b3
trent is not a dumb azz, he got a 3.6 gpa & he only eat healthy **** at buc-ee's...yeah university of calveston grads r smart
the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (for those that wanna build generational wealth thru nfl development in the atlantic coast conference & hard work in the classrooms of berkeley) https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/
and that's ok, this is a safe judgement free zone that encourages creativity/individuality so if that's wut they wanna do with their own happy dance then the monster is 100% supportive of their funny azz celebrations, got it?
It may not look like the smartest move for Afalava, but the fact is that at this point we need a current player to transfer out for every incoming portal upgrade we sign.
Most of the recent moves have paired one incoming player with one outgoing player, and most have upgraded our roster -- in some cases incrementally and in other cases significantly. So as a fan, I'm glad when players who have little shot at playing time transfer out.
Hopefully they are not being forced out, and hopefully they'll find a good situation for themselves that combines a chance to play football with the opportunity to earn a degree.
So I'm not on board with denigrating these guys who are presumably seeking a chance to continue playing the game they love.
I say "thanks for your time here at Cal and I wish you the best of luck pursuing your goals."

Always a Bear!
At worst, with a 4.1, he could crack the two-deep at one of the Ivies (and still earn a great degree), or one of the MWC schools or Military Academies.
2024 pac 12 championship at desert forest: 4th round update
terrific team effort in the final round at the brutally difficult desert forest with all 6 player shooting between 72-75 as the california golden bears finish in 2nd place ahead of multiple other nationally ranked programs but behind host powerhouse asu...the ncca tournament selection show is this upcoming wednesday with regionals in mid may & then the national finals at the recently renovated by gil hanse la costa resort in late may
mark my words freshmen ethan fang and eric lee will compete for the acc individual championship in 2025

or maybe tiu could transfer to long beach state with devin askew & work security at the beverly hills hotel when he's 30 years old?...then he could bore his co workers to death with stories re: how he played college football back in the day while keeping an eye on things in the polo lounge
the truth is that cal, stanford & ivy league degrees create significant 50 year advantages in today's ferociously competitive global economy that favors the well educated...this should be obvious to anyone with a 4.1 gpa that got zero nfl upside that looks honestly at themself
https://instagr.am/p/C1XsfaNSnhi yeah everybody should follow their dreams, shocky should've dropped outta berkeley & instead become a caddie by day and male azz stripper by nite in ibiza...let's not be mean and tell shoski that would've been a dumb decision, ok?
fun fact: anybody who drops outta berkeley is not always a bear

Shocky, honest question:
Would you prefer that Cal players who are buried deep on our depth chart stay several more years and earn a Cal degree?
Or would you prefer that they move to a different school and allow Cal to upgrade its roster through the portal for the 2024 season?
[Background hint: the 2024 season is crucial for the Bears to show more success and earn a seat at the table for the next round of realignment/relegation.]
I'm not asking what you think is better for the individual players who might transfer out -- I'm willing to let them make their own decisions as adults without judgment. I'm just asking which outcome you'd rather see as a Cal fan. (I am assuming these guys are not being forced out by the coaching staff).
My answer: As a fan, I'd rather see them go, assuming it's what they choose to do.
If your answer is the same, I think it would be good if we stop slamming these guys for potentially transferring to a lesser academic school.
Not trying to pick a fight; I just think it's not a great look to belittle a potential decision to move to a lesser academic school.
A few hours earlier these guys were our Golden Bears....I don't want players to think that Cal fans will immediately turn on them for doing what they think is right for themselves in pursuit of their personal goals.
zony, yes, my preference is that every student (whether they play football or not) who enrolls in berkeley leaves with a diploma...those buried on the depth chart can still take medical and/or football retirements while trading in their football schollys for other financial assistance programs while finishing their berkeley coursework
the truth is that the day the jet graduates with a berkeley diploma is gonna be as an exciting day for me as our september 21st beat down of florida state in tallahasse, u feel me?

the magic of cal football (requires academic ambition)#
Sincere questions: In a "football retirement", the scholarship still counts as being used, correct? As far as "injuriy/medical retirements", there is a limit as to how many we can take, correct? (otherwise, football-factory schools would take advantage to churn their rosters)
2024 new schollys: right now there are 38 NEW scholly additions

scholly roster math NOT in equilibrium right now (38 in/40 out/85 schollys)#
^^^ big c, there is no ncaa limit to the number of medical football retirements which no longer count against a football program for 85 scholly max purposes, they need to be validated thru medical doctor documentation which is not a difficult task as football is a violent sport
football factories don't need to abuse the medical football retirement scholly loophole as these academically sorry azz schools recruit athletes that usually got 2.5 gpas who think that they are gonna get paid in the national football league someday so they would rather transfer to another academically candy azz soft school than taking a football retirement & focusing on finishing their degrees
^ michael luckhurst (currently a walk on, nfl prospect ryan coe will be the scholly kicker this fall) is taking a football retirement as the 4.37 gpa true student athlete will now 100% focus on his academics in pursuing a berkeley degree
what needs to be said (but is never said on this board) is that young men from affluent families (the luckhursts live in santa barbara, his dad mick earned a berkeley degree before kicking in the nfl for the atlanta falcons & then successfully pursued other biz opportunities such as broadcasting along with playing golf with his sons) recognize the generational wealth value of cal, stanford & ivy league degrees
the vast majority of the young men throwing away a berkeley degree & entering the transfer portal (not talking about grad transfers) are from lower socioeconomic backgrounds that fail to recognize they are never gonna be paid in the nfl & that their best opportunity for building any wealth requires a berkeley degree
yeah throwing away a FREE elite education is not the road to a promise of a better life for all, at the end of the day it's just a dumb decision that will lead to a **** situation
best wishes to michael as he becomes a proud berkeley legacy graduate (shocky's then poor af moms earned a berkeley degree back in the day too)

^^ good luck to michael with his soccer aspirations, my take is that the 1st cut of sport teams by the next athletic director with the impending financial tsunami will include men's soccer
