the original official berkeley chancellor search timelines outlined potential candidates being nominated in may to uc chancellor michael drake for his recommendation of a final candidate to the uc board of regents in june for a july 1st transfer of power starting date

but what will go down as arguably outgoing chancellor carol christ's legacy/most benevolent gift (other than forgiving much of the stadium debt) to berkeley is that she's lobbied with drake for an early transition date due to multiple critical imminent issues that need immediate addressing which is why richard lyons wuz announced as the next berkeley chancellor last week in early april

carol knows now that knowlton is running the athletic department into an existential financial tsunami iceberg from which it will never recover from (read my past posts re: the covert tens of millions of dollars loans from the central campus & significantly lower future revenue streams from conference media rights) and that he lied to her about the northwestern athletic director job (which resulted in his contract extension thru 2029 at $1,300,000 despite being an absentee employee working outta colorado springs with a rental home in the east bay) & also the magnitude of the nil financial dollars of the men's football/basketball players (christ actually thought the nil dollars paid to jaydn ott wuz comparable to the goalie on the women's field hockey team and went ballistic when she found out otherwise)

so now rich lyons is the de facto chancellor & has the opportunity to take action on the 2nd legal review documents (commissioned by the chancellor's legal team & assistant vice chancellor dan mogulof) which focused upon jim knowlton & his evil as **** 2nd in charge jennifer simon-o'neil with respects to their criminal negligence in the multiple suicidal women's swimmers teri mckeever criminal scandal...the original 1st legal review by the munger firm wuz a $2,000,000+ cost report which resulted in a 482 page document that did not address the culpability of the athletic department, this 2nd report clearly shows criminal level intent & is grounds for the termination of both knowlton & simon-o'neil

and if knowlton & simon-o'neil are terminated then their worthless bureaucratic team of cfo tom lowry (recruited by knowlton from the air force, his transparent disdain of the cal football program wuz apparent to me within 15 minutes of our 1st conversation back in the day) & the obstinate markeisha everrett who talks about innovation but actually does nothing while hiding in her office reading the internet instead of offering FREE tixs to all students will also be removed from power

and yeah then andrew mcgraw would be the right next athletic director to quickly lead moving forward a fiscally responsible rightsized (cutting sport teams such as baseball within title ix requirements, realigning multiple sports such as rugby to club status and repurposing the evans & edwards fields/stadiums for the university's greater good) department that focuses on a select few national championship calibre teams that support school spirit (alums visiting campus on game days) & a stream of future philanthropic donations for the university

excerpt from jon wilner's recent article re: the cal's athletic department impending financial tsunami:

The Hotline never shies away from uncomfortable topics, and eliminating sports is the most uncomfortable topic in college athletics. But Lyons must seriously consider the downsizing of the Cal's department.

Only football and men's basketball are profitable. In that regard, the Bears are no different than dozens of power conference schools across the country. But Cal sponsors far more sports -30- than most of its peers.

Meanwhile the Bears needed $34,000,000 in university support last year just to turn a slight surplus, according to the financial support submitted to the NCCA.

And now comes a next level challenge: Competing in the ACC while receiving less than a full share of the conference's media rights revenues for the next 12-year arrangement.

Cutting sports would reduce expenses, bring the budget in line and free up cash for football operations.

Feels like the player to be named later in the Femi Oladejo trade.

Cinco De Mayo is a California holiday celebrating victory over slavery and colonialism. It was started in California during the Civil War by Mexican Americans, many who were refugees from Texas where Anglo American illegal immigrants had overthrown the government because Mexico (whose president had African heritage) had begun enforcing its laws against slavery. The "Texians" then began seizing as much Mexican owned land as they could with much rape and murder in the process. During the Mexican Anerican War, many Mexicans in Texas were viewed as the enemy. Many headed to the gold fields and relative equality and freedom of California.

During the Civil War, Napoleon II of France invaded Mexico and was allied with the Confederacy. Their plan was recolonization and reinstatement of slavery in Mexico. Lee had invaded Pennsylvania, things were looking bleak, when a ragtag bunch of kids defeated the French in the Battle of Pueblo. It became a rallying cry to the Mexican Californians who held parades as fundraisers and volunteers for the Union army. And then an annual event in California, continued after the war for more than 150 years, because the battle against racism and colonialism is not over.

Now it is mostly an excuse to eat Mexican food and get drunk, but at its core it is a Mexican American / California holiday celebrating racial unity and the fight against injustice.
