with the bears now safely in winson-salem & getting their body clocks rite with east coastie acc time, now is a good time to tell you again about the worst thing i ever did in berkeley

and with that being said, this isn't gonna be a pretty story

so shocky wrote a paper for bibliography 128, children's literature, and in rereading it felt it was a technically sound paper but that it lacked interest for the reader...so i totally fabricated & included the following opening paragraph:

"I must confess that I was made uneasy to see Anne Franks's The Diary of a Young Girl on the reading list for this class. Seeing the title on the list raised several burning questions in my mind. Why had I never read this famous book? Why had my father (after a heated and lengthy debate with my mother behind closed doors) removed this work off my bookshelf as a child? It seemed to me that the answers to these questions were somehow linked to my now deceased grandfather. Although my parents never talk about him, I remembered from various bits of information pieced together that Grandpa was a figure of dubious distinction in Hitler's brass during WWII. So I was forced to think. Why were my parents, particularly my father, so reluctant to talk about my grandfather? Could the answers to my grandfather's cloudy role in Germany during WWII be found in The Diary of a Young Girl which was so mysteriously taken off my bookshelf as a child?''

and i also rewrote the following closing paragraph:

"But despite her difficult and sometimes cruel life, Anne Frank did not feel sorry for herself and she never gave up. This is a worthwhile message for both adults and children alike. All in all, The Diary of a Young Girl is a sensitive, well written, and compelling self-portrait of a brave and spirited young girl, that at least for me, will always hold a special place on my bookshelf."

absolutely none of this is true...although i got a german last name in schulz, nobody in my family has ever had any connections with any racist groups...i grew up in a culturally mixed family that celebrates individuality & diversity, i'm a ******* mutt raised by a japanese tiger moms (also a berkeley grad, 1st in her family to graduate from college grew up poor as **** in the city by the bay)

so what did my teachers say in grading the paper?

the professor: "This a fine review, not only perceptive in its commentary but in itself very well written. I hope you will keep on writing, perhaps professionally? A+"

the teaching assistant: "Your paper was very perceptive and moving because the book had a great impact on you. Though you did not generalize about non-fiction, you approached this particular book in a sensitive and understanding way. Thank you for sharing this highly personal and emotional reaction-it was very important for me personally as an Isreali jew, well versed in the literature of the holocaust, to read your reaction to the subject. The book has made you think, grow up, seek further information, and if it has instilled in you the determination not to let the horrible and shameful history repeat itself, then it has served the purpose Anne's father had when he published her diary. A+"

i'm a flawed person but i know i need to set the record straight even if it means that i'm gonna flunk the class so i go to the ta's office hours

i walk in the door & i'm blown away...aubrey (mid to late 20s) is the cutest girl on planet earth (petite & curvy brunette yoga female with sparkling eyes & a dazzling smile) & we talk/laugh for about an hour about our favorite authors, recent concerts & the personalities of doggy dogs...but i never tell her my paper is full of ****, i can't stand the thought of her hating me so quickly

so i ask her if she would like to go bike riding with me at muir woods & stinson beach that weekend (with the idea that i would tell her the truth & also see her in a bikini) & she tells me she would love to go out with me but that the university code of professional standards does not allow teachers to date students

i don't give up that easily so i suggest we bring our doggy dogs, surely there can be no policy against our doggys hanging out together, right?

https://instagr.am/p/BxSgywLBG5x
she looks at me with sad eyes & tells me "this isn't going to happen, it can't happen" and we say our goodbyes

fast forward to a couple of summers ago & shocky takes his daughters shay & taylor to anne frank's house in amsterdam...i write & leave a note to both anne frank & the teacher's assistant apologizing for my actions

you every do anything worser in berkeley?

don't be a dumb azz#

postscript: monster readers probably already know shocky got some serious deep rooted issues that would probably benefit from intensive therapy or something but yeah she wuz a curvy brunette yoga female with a now triggering smokeshow PONYTAIL!! (u probably didn't see that coming, rite?)...shocky gotta lotta loose screws (kinda like home depot on inventory days) but with that being said the truth of the matter is that reality is overrated!!

Is that the same Jaylen Brown that just missed his 3rd straight game with a hip flexor injury? I am in agreement that they need to look hard at the S&C program and also include increased flexibility programs.

Would love to see what programs like Ohio St, Georgia and even Oregon do in their S&C programs. Some of these injured Bears are transfers that participated in S&C programs elsewhere. Merriweather and Grayes came from Notre Dame and Ohio St. Would love to understand what they did different at those places compared to here.

Coach Johnson played and was involved in S&C programs at LSU. They are really quite a strong program having won multiple national championships in the recent past.

Just wondering what the 49ers do? Seems to me that several of their major stars have had multiple muscle tears and other issues that could be related to S&C. Or they could just be that football is a tough sport and working out year round to play the game has different impacts on different players. If only Christian McCaffery was doing yoga the 49ers likely would be 8-0 rather than 4-4. And likely would have won the Super Bowl as well.

I am actually fine with incorporating yoga into the S&C program. It is certainly worth investigating. But I would love to see a study showing injury rates among those players/programs that do have a yoga program and those that don't. But using Jaylen Brown as an example while he is currently sitting out due to an injury that relates to flexibility seems a bad example to me.

I would be very interested to know the training regimens for athletes like Christiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Novak Djokavic, and even retired stars like Jerry Rice. Players that played at a ridiculous level for a long time and missed very little time to injury.

I agree that the S&C program should be looked at. Too many players miss time with injury. But basketball and football are different sports and there are no doubt some differences in how they train. And the size of the players is different. There are few if any 300lb men playing basketball. In football there could be 8 or more involved in any play from scrimmage. And violent contact is part of football. On every play.

Do we know that coach Johnson is anti yoga? Perhaps he would love to add that. Is he the sole person involved in the training programs? Or does he provide a program based upon what Justin Wilcox believes?

I think there is likely some data that is provided to these S&C staffs related to sports injury and various training methods. And likely by sport. Perhaps the data does not show a particular impact either way when yoga is utilized. Sports training is a huge industry. I would be shocked if they did not have extensive sport specific data.

But there is nothing stopping these players from using their NIL money on yoga. They could even do this in their residence. The gym I go to I see all sorts of folks doing yoga on their own. I get professional instruction is likely best but I am not for throwing coach Johnson out until we know what the HC is asking him to do with his time with the team.

Meanwhile I hope Jaylen returns soon from his injury. The Celtics sure could have used him last night vs the Warriors.

6956, shocky sent 2 emails to brian johnson the last couple of years inviting a discussion (during the nba offseason) with both him & jaylen brown re: the benefits of yoga in reducing sports injuries, he never responded which tells me all i need to know re: any authentic interest in the subject matter...i've since learned he wuz successfully fighting a cancer battle but great programs have other personnel responding to the team's needs regardless of any individual's availability/circumstances

the monster (whose client base includes a nba organization) has talked to enough players, bearents & staff to know that beyond stretching there is no serious yoga component currently in the cal football program, it's also painfully obvious that the # & severity of injuries is well beyond collegiate football norms & that something is very wrong with the current s&c program (if this wuz the nfl with that track record he would already be fired)

as u perhaps know, the never-ending nba season is basically irrelevant other than playoff home court seeding/nba draft priority which means sitting out key players on a precautionary basis is no big deal unlike college football which only has 12-13 critical games each season

I think we are basically in agreement. I doubt coach Johnson operates his program with total autonomy. Wilcox no doubt provides team and player goals.

IMO a complete overhaul of S&C is likely in order. I do agree that they are in need of some increased flexibility programs.

Wilcox has been a very poor manager of the program. His hires often do not achieve the desired results with little if any accountability.

I was at a very early Fall practice and saw Craig Woodson and Josiah Martin get muscle pulls during the first half of practice. The team was not yet in pads. It is common to view a Cal practice and see several players not practicing. Injuries occur and college teams will err on the side of caution. And should. But these sort of injuries seem to occur more often than normal. Calls into question the entire S&C program.

Practicing on turf likely does not help. I hope the program will look at what the top college programs are doing. As well as NFL teams. There has to be extensive data available on injuries by type and time missed. And what the teams with less injuries and time lost do.

Football is a damn tough game. Players will get injured. Limiting as best you can missed practice time, quicker recovery while improving strength, speed , agility and flexibility have to be major goals.

The S&C staff spends more time with these players than any coach does. That program needs to be first class in every way. I do not know coach Johnson. I do not know what his core principles are in regards to total player development. But my guess is he implements what Wilcox feels is most important.

When looking at a change in S&C it may require more than changing the director (Johnson). But the buyout means Wilcox and his horrible management will need to be overcome.

This program has more resources than ever to achieve success. Not Ohio State success but certainly better than what we see. Wilcox has squandered these resources and the program needs change. But the financial concerns his buyout presents means he will continue to lead the program.

He just may lead it into the G5.

health of the program's KEY impact player:

shocky is asking around on carcinogen drive on campus (FREE cartons of marlboro lites r being handed out at the student union with a valid student id!!) & the demon deacon staff is closely guarding the health status of the team's mvp the 100% relentlessly dangerous rb1 demond clairborne, shocky may not know until the early pregame warm ups wut's up with wake's star star star star star star

like javian (who is similar in height but got less junk in the trunk), claiborne's heart cannot be measured & it usually take multiple tacklers closing on the ball/gang tackling to take him ******* down, he's already rushed for 711 yards this season & does not go down with the 1st hit

demond wuz carted off the field earlier this season with a dislocated kneecap against nc state & then the week before last week's bye got a shoulder injury in the deacs victory against stanford down on the farm

those of u who've never seen a slow mesh walk the dog run scheme r gonna be shocked tonite as gap integrity, vision & communication will be CRITICAL for the bears disciplined & well seasoned defensive which is among the acc's ELITE d's

I caddied for Jay at the El Paso All American golf tournament that year and my friend caddied for Curtis. Jay was the nicest guy ever. I remember he played with Bob Goalby signature irons and I asked him why and he said Goalby was his uncle. Curtis was super grumpy. It's interesting because Arnold Palmer went to Wake which is why a bunch of guys back in the day went there, but aside from Will Zalatoris who's from Dallas and was snubbed by UT, I don't think they've had a ton of talent in recent years. These days the big southern teams seem to be Bama and Vandy.

Since this is really a golf thread, our group into a member of the Wake Forest golf team in the 70's that won multiple national championships. The 75 team is referred as the best team ever, with Jay Haas and Curtis Strange leading the Deacs to a 33 stroke victory. Haas won the individual and Strange finished 3rd after Jerry Pate at Bama. Really incredible.

They will be honored on the field tonight.

Your username icon or avatar needs to be an alternative helmet for Cal like yesterday. It would combine academics with football in a way no other university could.

Yellow helmet with Cf as well. Confuse the enemy. Or a different one on each side...

demond clairborne update:

it's a perfect fall afternoon in downtown winston-salem (5 miles from campus) with ideal high 70s temps & just a puff of wind so shocky is working (POW!!) outside on the patio of the cute as **** washington perk cafe on 4th street when shocky asks the guy wearing sweatpants, a wake football t-shirt & earbuds walking by if he's demond clairborne?...demond (who is walking normally with no limp/brace on his leg or wrap on his shoulder) takes out his buds & gives me a big smile & says "yeah, that's me!"...dude is around my height but constructed with a marshawn lower body, he's NOT gonna go down with the 1st hit

asked clairborne if he's gonna roll tonite?...he tole me "that's the plan"

we fist bump & shocky tells him "go bears!"

the waitress here tells me the demon deacon gameday hotel is just around the corner so his walking by himself 4-5 hours before kickoff is not really surprising

hollywood, one of my golf buddies jake bransford wallace is a vanderbilt grad & every spring he takes the commodores men's & golf teams (on separate trips) to augusta national where he's a member & yeah he's been tole by the head coaches that the overnite stay in one of the butler cabins & 3 rounds on the big course/1 round on the par 3 course is a major recruiting tool for their golf programs (a 4 year vandy grad will play 12 rounds at augusta national) in attracting worldwide top talent to nashville
