6956 & wifey, losing hunter barth is a big loss to the cal football program

barth is someone whose respected by every person associated in the program not only for his academic ambition (wuz unfairly not accepted into the haas biz ad undergrad program despite an outstanding berkeley gpa his first 2 years, the introverted head coach never offered to write a letter or recommendation or something), his team 1st approach (he caused 3 fumbles on kickoff coverage in 2024 & wuz the lead recruiter on devin brown) & untapped athleticism (tests with high nfl physical tools metrics)

hunter got a remarkable future with one of the leading international accounting firms in the world (barth got ceo upside) & will hopefully be an all acc performer this fall for stanford

a little light, but mobile LB and good special teams player. Bafth possibly is being recruited over by Taggert, who will start for every team not named TOSU or Georgia. Taggert''s recruiting is still open, but Barth leaving may suggest he could be a silent to Cal. Barth got his degree and will be a grad student at Furd. Very impressive.

lyons is gonna be the chancellor that financially sinks berkeley via the current financial tsunami that is rolling thru campus:

1) the state of california defunding the uc & state systems because of budget constraints
2) the federal government targeting berkeley federal grants because of its international relationships with china
3) an aging & increasingly less interested (tix sales are an indicative metric) alumni donor base that is not being replaced by younger alums, offering FREE tixs to all students to encourage school spirit/emotional engagement is an obvious 1st step but will never happen with markeisha sitting on her azz

real talk: if ron rivera really has the KEYS to the program there would be an announcement today that ALL berkeley students will receive FREE tickets to all football & basketball games!!

the way it's set up now with disturbing declining attendance metrics is that poor as **** kids from seaside can't afford the student season pass unlike the trust funders from 17 mile drive who got junior memberships at cypress point & ****

why don't the chancellor understand this simple INNOVATIVE concept for fostering school spirit & future alumni donations/engagement??

lyons grew up in an upper middle class plus family in palo alto & joined the sae house in berkeley, his parents PAID for his fan interest in cal sports just like my berkeley grad tiger moms paid for my attendance at bears football & basketball games back in the day

we both got FREE tixs, neither rich or shocky paid outta our pockets for the student athletic pass which is an unaffordable luxury for the overwhelming # of 1st generation college students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds enrolling in berkeley, buying a bus pass to see the fam on holidays is financially more important to them

This free student ticket talk is tiresome.

Student purchases have been strong in recent years.
Those that purchase them dont often show up. If we win, they will.
Those that get them free will hardly come at all.

That said, the convoluted basketball ticket claim for students this past season must go...
oskiswifeshusband
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It isn't. Many students can't afford tickets and would otherwise not been able to experience Cal football unless they had the opportunity.

Giving students free tix is something many other places do.

There's different ways to go about this too. Maybe free tix for first year and then discounted tickets after or some sort of bundles.

I benefited from having free tickets, otherwise I wouldn't have picked attending a football game over a meal when I was a broke student

ac, appreciate the correction, shocky failed governmental studies (and their sub entities)...r u now telling me that legoland too is not part of the uc system???...**** me if that's true

https://instagr.am/p/DEgRuScR5yk
carncelat, ur 7 total posts including implicit support for tarp management at memorial stadium suggest ur an athletic department employee, is that correct??...beyond the fact that 1st generation college students can often not afford the student pass, there is also the simple truth that the vast majority of berkeley's international students have never been to a single football or basketball games in their lives, do u really think they're gonna buy the student pass??

would also point that ur comment that "student purchase have been strong in recent years" is not supported by the attendance metrics which placed the men's basketball team 17th outta 18 teams in acc men's basketball attendance last season...but 100% agreed that student energy/attendance at haas has been outstanding compared to sonoma state, go seawolves!!

From the students of today we get the season ticket holders of tomorrow and the donors of the future.

Many students who come to "Berkeley" (sorry) did not grow up as football and basketball fans like I did. A multi-pronged approach is needed. Tickets should be free or at least very affordable. The students need to be invited. Cal needs to win more. CMS and Haas need to become "the places to be"... at least more than they are now. We saw last season with ESPN GameDay that there is vast potential.

Taggert is the number 1 rated middle linebacker in the Portal. He had a 10.69 in the 100 meters and rated a consensus 4 star recruit.. He played at 235 lbs last year, not 230 and is at least 1 inch less in height than Barth. As noted in the article, he is considered one of the most efficient tacklers in college football and he has massively productive as a redshirt Soph. He had 69 tackles despite missing playing time due to an injury. He has two seasons left. He was the top player (or second depending on which stats you look at) of a top 10 defense last year. He Is friends with Ulave where they grew up in Utah.

Transfer Portal Spotlight: LB Harrison Taggart is the best ...247Sportshttps://247sports.com article miami-hurricanes-foot...

As a redshirt senior, Barth started 3 games and played in two more games than Taggart . Barth had 38 tackles. While athletic, Barth is older, slower and less compact than Taggart. He also chose not to compete against Taggart, assuming Taggart picks Cal. I really don't blame Barth. He will get a grad degree from Furd, rather than a grad certificate from Cal. Think about that.

USD (private) not UCSD
The cost differential form the $80 to 100 million that Cal says it will cost, is not about a private entity which can avoid a lot of costs (prevailing wages, public bid contacting) such as a private school. UC Davis recently built a basketball facility for $36 million. The key may be the basketball practice facilities are part of bigger projects. But this is why donors often choose to NOT donate to Cal. They simply think Cal can't manage their donations effectively.
