it's the MONSTER recommendation that the 1st offensive play of the coach lup era be a PITCHOUT to adam in wide open space on the edge for the following reasons:
1) it would be a tosh tip of the cap to legendary bears coach jeff tedford during an era of multiple NFL running backs
2) it would settle the issue of whether the bears wr1s are gonna ******* BLOCK in the fall of 2026 (ike & geoff should hand out a nyan boateng award for the most violent BLOCK after every game)
3) it would test the bruins 3 starting corners/nickels who are around 5'10" 175 lbs
4) it would test the bruins outside linebackers who are "coached" by vic so'oto who like a lotta former wilcox coaches is a good guy but a poor developer of talent (literally nobody got better in berkeley as edge defenders under vic)

^ apparently coach lup is not the only dumb azz on planet earth that don't know **** about maps or geography (jt is still shocky's favorite college drop out from the deep south, roll tide to the dumpsters out back behind the waffle house!!)
max homa (68, tied for 24th): max is a straight up doggy dog brawler who when cornered battled back 1000% in unbearable humidity including an epic sandy par save on the diabolical par 4 18th hole (collin & michael lost balls in the water en route to bogeys) for a scrambling par!!...finished the regular season #53 in the fed ex standings, fully expecting world class golf from homa this fall on the pga tour!!

real talk: last season the bears starting SAFETIES did NOT make many plays on the ball in passing coverage, some of that can be attributed to the wilcox bend don't break ultra conservative schematics (with safeties playing deep center field with instructions to not let the ball get behind them) & some of that might be attributed to the closing speed for dru (credited for defending 3 passes all season, no interceptions) & aidan (credited for defending 2 passes all season, 1 interception)...none of the bears safeties brought tackling physicality during the nightmare on blacksburg street

In the bigger scheme of things, with football and basketball out of the subsidy business due to among other things, NIL and the threat of conference realignment, the only justification for many deficit heavy programs is in the case of women sports, Title 9, and in men's sports the desire to field teams in traditional sports. The fully endowed sports have earned their keep. None of this is an excuse for poor performance. If you have a volleyball team, they should be competitively elite, like every other area at Cal. If Cal is elite in academics, why not research? If Cal is elite in research, why not sports? Rinse and repeat. As for Lyons, he has a lot of battles to fight. He will get around to the co-ADs when warranted. I predict in October 2026, one prominent area will be removed from their oversight.

My criticism is you attacking certain women's sports based on the socio-economic profile of the athletes, which as far as I can see is irrelevant to the topic at hand. If what you're suggesting is that Cal create the equivalent of the Oakland Soldiers for women's lacrosse, so more women of color have an opportunity to play it and get a Cal scholarship, I might agree as a matter of equity, but that's not going to do anything in terms of changing Cal's requirement to offer the sport. It's just going to increase the cost of doing so.
I in fact don't agree with the fact that the women's sports basically skate in terms of paying for themselves. But that's basically the equivalent of telling young people to get off my lawn. As Title IX is currently structured, Cal either has to do what it's doing now, or it has to cut a bunch of men's sports as I outlined in the earlier posts. I would note that there have been other posters on this topic who noted that cutting track and field would mean cutting a sports that frequently provides scholarships of athletes of color, which is lamentable. But we're now dealing with the sports program as a business, and if we have to cut to meet Prong 1, we have to do it strategically.
