Anderson and Sturdivant seems to be despondent with the poor throws today. You could see it when the throws were errant as they returned to the huddle.

Here's the problem. If we don't fix this quickly, you're going to see some of these four star recruits that we are all talking about enter the portal and they will leave and all we will be left with is a crappy offensive line and nothing else.

I'm not arguing in the least the coaching is a major problem. I'll give you two words. Christopher Brooks. He leaves and he's playing on the top 20 teams and being very productive but why is that? Because they have a behemoth offensive line and they have a good offensive scheme two things that we lack seriously. I agree with you about Oregon state they have 24 office of lineman. We have 385 linebackers. There's a disproportionate amount of defensive players on this team we need to balance it out. It is a polar opposite of Sonny Dykes.
if you are a defensive, minded head, coach, you better be able to recruit. That's the bottom line have a dynamic offensive coordinator who can work to get the offensive players that you need. Pete Carroll, and Lane Kiffin come to mind.
Wilcox should be a DC that's his strength.

That's actually one of the worse efforts I've every seen by a Cal receiver. He just lazily watches the ball into his arms and doesn't seem to realize there are other people on the field who will be trying to knock it free. That is completely on Starling. A terribly lazy effort.
I think that part of this is on Plummer.
He took "forever" to find Starling and when he did he "floated" the ball.
The replay from side-view will tell you as much. Plummer found him late and never stepped into it.

Imagine if he had been on the field against Notre Dame, even just as a downfield threat would have made a world of difference that afternoon.sycasey said:I bet that in high school he could just casually catch the ball like that when there's no one near him. Not at this level, the defenders close much faster. He'll learn.HoopDreams said:

So why with the game on the line in OT on the road with a hostile crowd are we relying on a (walk-on? I haven't even seen his name mentioned until today) who had just made his first college catch earlier in the game?

3 star OL doesn't help
Jonathan Smith has built a good OL at OSU with 2 stars. He just brings in a lot of guys (24 on the roster) and they develop them and play the best.

Whole lotta air under a whole lotta Plummer's passes today. By design of the play? Knee bothering his motion?
Typically, his passes have sailed on him, early in games this season.
He is trying to throw into a tiny window on all the crap Musgrave sideline plays. Short passes over the middle are the key to modern football, and he is good at making them.Big C said:Nofado said:

Passes will also tend to be lofted high if you're always throwing with a guy in your face.sluggo said:He is trying to throw into a tiny window on all the crap Musgrave sideline plays. Short passes over the middle are the key to modern football, and he is good at making them.Big C said:Nofado said:

Mason Starling is a fairly highly regarded scholarship player (JC transfer) who had been recovering from a nagging injury (sounded like groin or hamstring) suffered in fall camp. He looked great in the 4th Q (until he didn't secure that ball).
Tough luck for Latu today, too... twice.
