His son the the PFW told his Dad that the DC is inexperienced. The entire concept is around the D line and linebackers. No coaching on the DB's. The are simply 1 on 1. With Milner that's creates a lot of opportunities for QB runs.

Before the season started, it was clear, regardless of the media hype, that the strength of the Washington D would be up front and at OLB/Edge. Despite the hype, the DBs they have have not ever really lived up to it. And that unit has lost a lot to the NFL the last couple of years. Lake was the guy that made that unit great and he is gone.

No coaching excuses, those guys just aren't that good. The coaches are rightfully putting the emphasis on their strength, which is upfront, something I wish the Cal OC would do with our offense--play to their strength.

Meanwhile, I don't think this bodes well for the Cal QB. Cal faced a similar situation vs. WSU. The WSU secondary is not very good, but the Cal QB had limited chances to get the ball downfield to his receivers. All Cal could do was through short, which would have worked if there was any YAC. Maybe Cal will have more YAC on Saturday with home-field advantage. We'll see.

RE: QB runs, what makes you think our QB will get past the Washington defensive front and into the secondary? The blueprint is out. Stack the box vs. Cal, rush the QB and make him throw under pressure, breaking up the timing that is critical in the Musgrave offense. Washington should be very good at this and Millner is not going to handle it well.

Also, what makes you think Millner can run?
