Florida State, Clemson UNC and Virginia all voting No. Virginia Tech and NC State on the fence. Feels like Florida State and some of the other Group of 7 saw what happened to the Pac-12, and think if a few of them announce their departure that there will a rush to the lifeboats and the league will collapse. Sound familiar?

Va Tech's president (and his wife) are both Cal grads, he should not be on the fence.

I think we can get a majority to vote for a scheduling alliance as they have with Notre Dame. If ESPN and/or Apple will back that could be better than getting only half of what ESPN would give the ACC for us. At least for 2024.

Just two more Cal alumni who never learned to love Cal sports because even back then, the administration didn't give a damn.

So all this bulls**t about four schools being against CAL and the dark side joining the ACC. It only takes one to flip and we are in. I don't care about FSU and Clemson. They are glorified high schools. Let's concentrate on having CAL admin work with NCSU and UNC to flip.

NC State's opposition is hard to understand. Don't they realize they'll be left out of a future super-conference? And who exactly is going to be available to the ACC when FSU and Clemson leave? Not Cal and Stanford. More lien UConn and Tulane. This is their chance to fill those spots with major conference schools and they're blowing it.

Yup, UNC will drop NCST like a hot rock once the B1G comes calling. They should be trying to get as much money and stability right now as they possibly can, not following big brother.

NC State might be hoping to be the second in a pair with any of the other three, not necessarily UNC.

NC State's best chances are either as a second pair to UNC or that both the B1G and SEC want in the state and NC State will land in whichever conference doesn't pickup UNC.

Don't know. But I have to imagine UNC would push for NC State over Duke. If there's a competition for UNC, the conference that takes both may be the winner.

But if UNC goes solo, not sure if the other conference woukd prefer Duke to NC State, but Duke does not feel like an SEC team on its own.

A merger with the AAC is gaining traction. Would be the Pac-4, and then possibly adding additional MWC teams and forming a western Pod or Division for that league.

San Diego State would be one of those Mountain West teams, with maybe Boise State with Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State. Figure SMU, Rice, UTSA and Tulane would also be on that side of the league.

Oliver Luck, who was runner-up to George Kliavkoff to be Pac-12 commissioner, is now working with the league trying to sort this all out. Luck. father of Andrew Luck, is former AD at West Virginia and has a long history in sports management.

On the TV side, they're working on ESPN as a linear partner with Apple to handle streaming.

This is going to do irreparable damage to Cal's reputation and chances for ever getting into the super conference.

I'd rather all energy go into the hail Mary that is now the B1G. We need something of the equivalent to The Play to save the program. Focus on designing this play - not this sure path to a slower death

It's saying go in there and ask for a price. If it's 5 million a year so be it. Try and make up whatever difference through donors but strong arm the admin to prioritize football. Show that we are a .500 win or better team in the B1G before asking for a larger share.

Sometimes at work you have to represent the best interests of your employer and not what you personally want.

I do think independence can bring as much money as some sort of merger with the AAC or MW with the added benefit of being able to set game times and not being tied down by a conference during the next realignment. The only person it benefits is an athletic director that doesnt want to put forth the effort in organizing independence, and would rather default to a conference 'because its easy'.

So it sounds like GK is out, probably for the best.

Duke is a wannabe Ivy. Half the people I know who went to Duke are from NY or NJ.

Independence, or operating as the PAC-4, for a year or two, offers upside, especially if Notre Dame is involved. We would need a conference to help us with scheduling, and especially for 2024. ACC is better than the AAC.

I agree, Knowlton is not the guy to run it. This is where I think Cal football would be best outsourced to a private alumni run organization.
