Va Tech's president (and his wife) are both Cal grads, he should not be on the fence.

I think we can get a majority to vote for a scheduling alliance as they have with Notre Dame. If ESPN and/or Apple will back that could be better than getting only half of what ESPN would give the ACC for us. At least for 2024.

So all this bulls**t about four schools being against CAL and the dark side joining the ACC. It only takes one to flip and we are in. I don't care about FSU and Clemson. They are glorified high schools. Let's concentrate on having CAL admin work with NCSU and UNC to flip.

It's saying go in there and ask for a price. If it's 5 million a year so be it. Try and make up whatever difference through donors but strong arm the admin to prioritize football. Show that we are a .500 win or better team in the B1G before asking for a larger share.

I do think independence can bring as much money as some sort of merger with the AAC or MW with the added benefit of being able to set game times and not being tied down by a conference during the next realignment. The only person it benefits is an athletic director that doesnt want to put forth the effort in organizing independence, and would rather default to a conference 'because its easy'.

Independence, or operating as the PAC-4, for a year or two, offers upside, especially if Notre Dame is involved. We would need a conference to help us with scheduling, and especially for 2024. ACC is better than the AAC.

I agree, Knowlton is not the guy to run it. This is where I think Cal football would be best outsourced to a private alumni run organization.
