Quit the whining. The Bears favored by 7 1/2 points. Who else went to the Maryland game??
I did with my adult son. Most striking aspect was the number of Cal Fans who could not take the heat abandoning the stands and hiding from the sun in the shadow of the stadium walls
2008, it was unbearably hot and humid. I recall the team was duly affected - Flying in on the Friday, kicking off at 9 am Berkeley time, and staying air conditioned until they entered the stadium. The visitor side had no cover and it was miserable. Kevin Riley set a school record for attempts 33-58, 423 yards, but losing 35-27 with the Bears being ranked 23. Weather and travel counts.
Totally idiotic thinking that game would be breeze given how the travel was done, at least Wilcox did things right with Ole Miss.

Who is the idiot at Cal who would schedule this? Never play in Texas until mid October. Who is the moron?

We beat Texas in Austin in 2015, it was a night game in front of 100,000 fans and it was glorious after a great day of eating BBQ and drinking in shady locations.

One of my biggest regrets was not being able to attend that game in Austin. And then I had to go to a bachelor party when Texas came to Berkeley.

This is nuts. One prediction for 106-107 degrees, and a second for 98-99 degrees, for a 2:30 pm local time start in Texas.
Agreed. Stadium capacity 30k, If a 1/3 shows up you still have 10,000 people in 100+ degree weather for about 4 hours. It's probably statistically possible that someone could die in those conditions.

As a teen growing up in hot Sacramento, friends and I always considered it a challenge to go out on the hot blacktop and play basketball in the 100+ degree summer afternoon. After one fun hour, we were totally gassed and headed back home to swim. I can't imagine 4 hours and no swimming pool in sight.

I used to do this in my early 20s. I am shocked you guys made it an hour.
I did a 5 mile jog/walk/hike around the north west side of Folsom lake 2 weeks back on Sunday at midday (2pm - 3:30pm or so). We had to stop twice to jump in the lake to try to cool off. It was just a tic over 100 that day, and it was pretty rough. Being on a black top would have made it so much worse.

I have a friend in The Woodlands who had to get a reversible heat pump on his pool to cool it enough to use it.

Then there are unexpected Thunderstorms. The Northern Alabama Mercer game is in delay. We could be ahead and lose our mojo once the delay starts ala the Oregon power failure game in Eugene years ago

Summer in Texas is worse because the humidity is usually substantially higher than in Livermore.

Exactly. It's not even close. I can do 102-105 with a lot of prep, proper attire, hydration, and not for too long. 90 + high humidity is brutal. I'd fall out! Doesn't help that I grew up on the HWY1 coast.

This was a JK special scheduling a home and home with North Texas in 2017. It was obvious after a few months the guy had no clue.

I grew up in Livermore and while it often got toasty, there's no comparison to summer in Texas. Heat waves in Livermore usually didn't last that long. In Houston, from mid June to mid September the high will be no lower than 94 degrees every day. Humidity makes it much worse.

Spring, Fall and Winter are usually quite pleasant. In summer, just going to get the mail can be a chore.

It was obvious (at least to me) that the guy had no clue on his first day on the job when he stated in his introductory press conference that Cal would not be cutting any sports. No one with half a brain would make a definitive statement like that 5 minutes on the job without any real understanding of the university's financial position.

Just looking at his resume and listening to him, he did not have the requisite education, knowledge, experience, vision, intelligence or passion for our university to lead us through this critical period in history when he was hired.

Justin Wilcox was on the search committee which should not happen with a first year coach.

This is completely off topic, and only relevant if you want to get your nerd on, but why different parts of the country have different hottest times of the year:

Well it's only supposed to be 102 degrees now at kick-off. Are the Bears practicing in Death Valley this week? Actually it's hot as hell down here in SoCal the next few days. Come down and practice on the old LB State 49 practice field! I'll bring Gatorade!

My recollection was that we had a team cancel a 2019 game with us on very late notice. There weren't many teams needing games that were free that weekend. One was North Texas, but they would only agree to it if we played a return game at their place. So, here we are now. I'm not sure what the other options were, but we were kind of between a rock and a hard place back then.

Hello All,

I posted here a few years ago when my Mean Green played Cal. Someone told me to watch out for the Antifa protests to scare me. Since you're coming to Denton, I must warn you all to watch out for the people with Trump won signs, or my favorite "guns, god, and Trump". I also said that if you were nice to me, I would return the favor.

Let me clear up a few things, the Cal fans were very nice and chill. They were all friendly and welcoming to this lone North Texas fan in 2019. Second, I hope you didn't take my Trump jokes seriously. Denton is a very diverse city. There will not be any crazy MAGA people at the game. However, I can't guarantee that to the the case in East or West Texas.

If you're coming to the game, please stay hydrated. We have had a terrible heat wave this last month. Today we were excited that the temperature was only 95. Currently, we have a chance of a high around 100 degrees for the game. We will be nice to the Cal fans that want to travel to Denton. If you want to enjoy our fan board, come on over to gomeangreen.com.

Here's to a competitive and injury free game!

What the eff does whether or not someone who likes Trump have to do with anything?

It's the same heat, whether you lean right, lean left, of haven't a clue. It's the same sun, same plastic rug, same kickoff time, and same desire to win.

Everyone is making a lot out of the heat that is not uncharacteristic for Texas. Teams play there on a regular basis. Cal has played in Tennessee, Mississippi, and N. Carolina and done just fine. It's about prep, expectations, and going out and doing business.

It would be nice if the weather cooled some. It would be nice if NTX had a grass field, and it would be nice if it were a night game. But it is what it is.

It's a little like teams having to travel to Minnesota, Green Bay or Buffalo in Dec. It's different. You just have to deal with it.

There will not be an asterisk by the "W" or "L" because it was hot. It will simply be a "W" or a "L". And that's all that's going to matter.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, there is a rug on the floor of North Texas's stadium. I believe they installed the same crap (all artificial surfaces are crap anyway) that Arkansas installed about 8 or 9 years ago. Arkansas tore it up and now, like most of the SEC has a natural grass surface.'

One major difference between playing at NTSU and TCU is TCU also tore up their artificial surface and has gone back to natural grass as well. It doesn't solve all of the heat issues, but certainly makes things a little less hot and also helps to relieve muscles of cramps.

Living in the tropics and working on my property every weekend, I've learned that hydration is not enough. and magnesium and potassium supplements are needed to avoid cramping, Sports drinks can be OK but many have too much sodium and too many are too strongly flavored and acidic which is part of why Jahvid puked.

The bmi of your average Denton, tx trumper subsisting on diet coke, McMuffins, and brisket with daily excercise which includes getting off the porch couch and grabbing another pbr, riding the handicap cart at Walmart, and shooting six packs of Budweiser products (damn trans people from Berkeley with their influencers)
Is
Clearly somewhere around 22.1
Meanwhile your average north Berkeley Nancy Pelosi elitist crowd funder subsisting on quinoa, kale, and wheat grass juice with daily exercise consisting of half marathons to grizzly peak and back with a small dose of protesting murica mixed in clearly has a bmi of like 237
Therefore,
Trumpers are in better shape to tolerate the heat.

With the wretched summer Texas is having, the predicted weather is temperate. The main thing to remember is hydrate and hope we have enough depth to keep rotating players.

Tbh unless you're from Texas and are in the area..I'm not sure why you would attend this game. These temps are dangerous to fans. If you're in great condition you can probably do fine. If you're older or not in great condition I wouldn't advise it.

I hope someone at Cal is smart enough to never schedule games in Texas and other southern states until at least mid October. Just start off with conference games (when we actually have depth anyways).

I live in Fort Worth. The summer was brutal and dangerous - my elementary school kid was not allowed to have recess the first couple weeks of school - but I am not too concerned about the players. I assume they will have fans, wet towels and plenty of hydration. We also will be rotating players in and out.

My adult soccer league has been playing games through the heat and nobody has struggled too much. I realize we don't wear pads, but we're also 30 years older and not in as good of shape.

More importantly, although it will be brutal in the sun, it has actually cooled off a few degrees from the worst of the heat. It's an advantage for UNT, but it should not be a deciding factor.

BS. Friendly banter has a second side to it, an outlet for the comment. This was a chance to spread malice when you see that the recipient is merely a foil for multiplying the attack. Otherwise known as a shot.
