Yes. An amateur coach out of his league.
When was the last time USC yielded 49 points?

No, because bowls get you contract extensions. Sorry to be so negative.SoFlaBear said:A "Bowl Week" game is better at just about every level than "No Bowl Game."TheFiatLux said:What a bummer to miss out on another appearance in the Red-Box-Cheetos-Poinsettia-Figh-Hunger classic...westcoast101 said:
I don't view this as any sort of moral victory. This was a game that we should have won, against a ranked team, and what could have vaulted us into real contention for a bowl game.

We are down 4 running backs.... I think Wilcox decided we were out of soldiers, and needed to end it here.
Also Cal was not going to stop SC in OT

Well considering if Endries isn't held the entire time he's wide effing open on the 2 pt conv it wasn't stupid. Pac-12 refs basically won USC that game. That's not being salty..that's literally what happened. The Timeout is meaningless if we score that.01Bear said:Cal88 said:socaltownie said:

I liked the call until JW called timeout. That was just stupid.

That seems absurdly hostile.

You're absolutely right.
I turned on the radio for our final drive, down 7.

SC with a minute left would have gotten in field goal range, or maybe gone conservative and we're in OT, and with our main RBs out that would have been hard to pull off.

IMO you only go for 2 if it is going to mean a win.
USC still had almost a minute left to try to score so the 2 points did not mean a win.
So I think you at least tie it there so that the rest of the game can play out.
If USC scores again, they would have won anyway.

TBH, I am pretty sure we have a similar probability of hitting the PAT as the 2pt try. So for me it's just nice to say could'a would'a should'a

The only thing I didn't like was Wilcox calling timeout before running the 2 point conversion. That made zero sense. Not only did it give SC'a defense a chance to set up, but it also took away a valuable timeout in the case of a failed attempt.

I was relieved because I thought he called timeout so we could send in the kicking team

Just stop. It's the wrong call. You never put the game on 1 play unless you absolutely have to. This decision changed nothing for SC if we succeed and everything for us if we fail. And statistically 2 pt conversions aren't 50-50. They're around 40-60. There's a reason they make you do them after the first OT. It's because they will FAIL at a higher rate.
Wilcox has learned absolutely nothing in 7 years. Did the same thing vs AZ year 1 with the same result. We can't afford not to fire him.
