Since Raiders left, wherever Jared plays is my adopted team. Jared is playing vs my 2nd favorite QB today. I hope that they both throw for 500 yards but that Lions win…..however if Chargers need the win to make playoffs, and Lions don't, I can live with Chargers winning, provided Goff has a good game.

The quality of QBs in the NFL, with Brady having retired and Rodgers being out, is currently the lowest I've seen since I started following the game in the 1980s.
Look for Nix, Penix and Williams and other QBs from the upcoming draft to start on NFL teams next season.
People need to recognize that a lot of these top picks for QB have 2 things. Elite Offensive lines and elite WR corps. These are things they won't have in the NFL. Will Penix be able to deliver when his protection breaks down in the NFL and the throwing window is tiny to non-existent? Same with USC's head case of a QB. Goff never had either. To me neither of these 1st round projected QBs should be day 1 NFL starters if the teams drafting were smart. Hard to tell from Penix's time in Indiana as he got a serious injury. That's why I think QB is such a difficult position to draft especially when drafting from Blue Blood Unis, I think it's a weakness as their deficiencies get covered up by the talent around them. Nix will always have the "short QB" stigma.
Just go back to the 2021 draft with Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, and Mac Jones. That was supposed to be one of the strongest QB drafts in years. Looks like only Lawrence is going to be really good. What a crapshoot!
Nix is (listed at) 6'2", not all that short, same height as Rodgers and pretty close to the NFL average. I agree about QBs from good programs with good surrounding casts being overrated (see the long string of USC high draft pick QBs), but these guys are standouts by the standards of their own programs.
Also the level of QB talent in the NFL today is relatively mediocre. On a given season, you would typically have 4 or 5 future hall of famer QBs playing in the League, right now I am not sure if there is anyone other than Mahones. I counted around 7 hall of fame QBs playing in the NFL in 1990, and 5 in 2000:

22 years old. There are a lot of young QBs in the league right now and they have a lot of talent. Several have already put up better seasons than many of the senior "Hall of Fame" QBs

The real issue with Nix and Penix (imo) is that both are older and more experienced college players. Nix is a 5th year senior who will be a 24 year old NFL rookie and pushing 30 at the end of his rookie deal. Penix is a 6th year senior and will also be 24 as a rookie and pushing 30 at the end of his rookie contract.
It doesn't mean either will be busts or that they're not worth the draft investment but if you're 23 with 5/6 years of experience playing against 18-21 year olds you should look a lot better compared to your competition. It can skew the evaluation, especially when playing with a much more talented team than the majority of opponents.
Will it translate to the NFL where they won't have the developmental and experience advantage? Will teams prefer them to Williams and Maye who have longer runways and will be in their mid-20's coming off their rookie deals? And (like all QBs) will they adjust to a more complicated and faster league with minimal room for error and tighter windows?

Aaron Rodgers: Won his first playoff game at age 27 years, 1 month.
Peyton Manning: won his first playoff game at age 27 years, 9 months.
Drew Brees: Turned 28 two days after winning his first playoff game.
Patrick Mahomes: Won 2 Super Bowls before turning 28.
My point: A lot of those older guys took a while to establish themselves.

Williams just makes insanely good throws, and he also makes time with his feet, because he is not behind a great line. He has benefited from excellent WRs. NFL teams will want him to be in better control of his emotions, but he is smart and physically has the tools. Still has a higher ceiling. He would be my first pick.MinotStateBeav said:

Penix is a very accurate passer, but I'm less sure about his physical tools. Penix also has 7 interceptions despite being behind a good line and with elite WRs. I still take him second because he is so accurate.
Nix is a great athlete, smart, great stats, tough, has great WRs, great oline and he is old (be 24 on draft day) and very experienced. Not the same arm strength as Williams. I'm not sure he has that much ceiling left. Draft him third.
I agree about Mahomes and I think Burrows if he stays healthy also will be a guy who makes some lists. Maybe as the NFL football changes Hurts, but I tend to doubt it as he ages those hits add-up.
