Big question for UW now is whether their handful of very close wins give the CFP committee an excuse, after next week's games, to keep the Huskies at #5 behind the loser of next week's Ohio State - Michigan game.
I get what you are saying and the answer is, I fear, yes.
It's going to be close between Washington and Florida St. this week.
Remember Washington actually beat the spread as OSU was actually favored by 1.
Nobody in the top 4 has more top 25 victories than Washington and Washington won 2 of them on the road.
This is partly because of the rise of Arizona, which might be top 15 now and possibly even ahead of OSU in the polls.
If all of the top 5 win out , except for Michigan and Ohio St. who play each other, and Oregon beats OSU in the civil war, I think Washington gets in because Washington would have to beat Oregon again on neutral ground and that will too impressive to keep Washington below Florida St., even with a Seminole win over Jack Plummer and the Louisville Cardinals.
Note, I don't think we can count on the loser of Ohio St./Michigan droppiing out of the top 4 even if it is Michigan. Clearly the committee loves Michigan which has only one quality win and a bunch of controversy. But I think Washington can surpass Florida St.
Having said all this, I think Oregon is the best team in the conference right now, having gotten much better defensively since their narrow loss to the Huskies. I'm not saying the Huskies are playing poorly and don't deserve their ranking. But Oregon is on fire and could be playing the best in the nation next to Georgia. I would love to see Oregon in the playoff but they are going to need some help. They would need to have Florida St. and the winner of the Ohio St./Michigan game to both lose their conference championship game. And it would help if Texas also lost and Georgia wipes out Alabama.
Oregon vs. Georgia in the title game would be fun. although I"m happy if Washington gets there as well. I think another fun matchup would be Washington vs Michigan/Ohio St., bringing back the Don James rose bowl years.
