Did he return kicks in high school? There was one atbThe goal line he decided not to return. I wonder if we have a blocking scheme that could spring him?

Ott would likely be a step up on returns, but if he's going to carry the rock 30-35 times a game, it's probably best not to give opposing special teams several more chances a game to blast him while at a full sprint.

It just kills me when the kickoff only goes to the 7 or 8 yard line (of course ya gotta return that) and then we get creamed at about the 18. Pathetic.

We don't HAVE to return that. If we were smart we'd take a knee and get the ball at the 25.

If he took at knee there we would get the ball at the 7 yard line. You have to fair catch it to get it to the 25.

OK then, we should have given a fair catch signal to get the ball at the 25.

That's what we should do, given our performance on kick offs recently, but how can players -- heck, a team -- resist returning a kickoff that only goes to the 7-or-8 yard line... especially after the opposing team has just returned a similar kick to the 40?

They need to feed him the ball. He is our clear cut and single breakaway threat.

Ott returning kickoffs is criminally stupid. Unless you have a timeless talent like desean, have your backups field kickoffs and punts. There is too much risk of injury.

We need Ott healthy on offense, he is too valuable to use on special teams.

Sure about that?

He may be MORE valuable on special teams because there isn't a big DL stuffing his every attempt.

But I get what you're saying.

Can we let him at least try one return?

OK, I'll eat humble pie on this one. I'm delighted to be laughably wrong. I didn't figure Ott would be untouched on kick off returns.
