I stated "anywhere between 3-9 and 9-3", so on average, I got it right.

I predicted somewhere between 12 - 0 and 0 - 12, so on average, I was spot on.

We had 6 top 25 teams in our slate prior to the season. I knew we were not a top 25 team. So 6 and 6 was the expectation and less would have been the big disappointment. More would have been very nice. At the end of the season we had a QB who seems like the future with some really good pieces and a team that seems like it is starting to enjoy playing together and looser. This is team is not afraid, and that is awesome.

^ We have been playing at the level of a top 25 the last 3 games. UCLA came into this game at #27 Sagarin, and WSU gave UW all it can handle yesterday.

The Pac was crazy good this year, that and the fact that we have had to break in a new freshman QB means we are better than our record.

I predicted 6-8.

But usually I am overly optimistic about Cal's chances
This year Cal had 2 coulda-woulda-shoulda losses. But I am not too depressed with 6-6 since after UW and OSU and UO crushed us, I expected no better than a 4-8 season and maybe a 3-9 season

Felt it would be 5-7 to 7-5 in early fall (August) but then lowered it when we were 3-6 I have to admit.

For all those predictors based on pre season schedule, we pretty much tore that up excepting UO and UW. The odd year, even year schedule blows me away. Yes, one is harder, but it doesn't lock us in to a win or a loss.

I predicted 3 or 4 wins. I was wrong about the WSU and UCLA games. I expected a dumb loss to a team we should have beat but I was expecting that to be Stanford or ASU, not Auburn.

Bears were predicted to end up 9th or 10th right, and they ended up 7th. Like the Jeffersons, they're moving on up!

I predicted 7-5. I thought our defense would be much more consistent. We gave away the USC and Auburn games and should be 8-4. Even if we were 8-4, we weren't competitive with the better teams in conference which I was expecting us to be. Really strange season. I think many things in the program need to change, but one thing Wilcox should get credit for is all of his teams exemplify ""The Bear will not quit. The Bear will not die."

What proof do we have that Shocky1 attended any games?

I don't see the relevance in doing so which makes me wonder if Shocky1 has heard of TV?

Whoa there, UCLA was the only team we beat with a winning record, a record padded by 2 FCS wins and a win against 4-8 San Diego State. And we played the Bruins in an inconsequential game for them after they defeated their rival SC handily. Everyone else we beat had at best 5-7 records. We also lost to 6-6 Auburn. So top 25 caliber? No. Am I happy we are going bowling? Heck yeah the rules apply to everyone, get to 6 you qualify.

Honestly, before the season started, I thought likely would be 5-7 with a possibility of going 6-6 by beating UCLA in the final game. But for most of the season, even that 5-7 looked improbable, especially as Cal got blown out by UW. The fact that Cal also gave away winnable games against USC and Auburn was lamentable, even if I had chalked those games up as losses in August.

In retrospect, had Nando started every game this season, it's possible Cal could've gone 8-4 or even 9-3. I never would've expected that before the season. I'm very goad Cal seems to have found its next QB in Fernando Mendoza. I just hope he and Jaydn Ott remain at Cal next year!

We are #12 in strength of schedule. UCLA is rated #27 Sagarin, which takes into account their strength of schedule.

Auburn as well is now better than its record, they should have beaten Alabama yesterday, played them even. Same as WSU, they took UW to the wire.

Our Sagarin should end up in the 40s, which is a fair reflection of our level as a seasonal average, but it doesn't account for the upwards trajectory that the team has demonstrated, we're currently better than that, in the #20-35 range, and if we win our bowl we will receive some poll votes.

We currently do belong in the group of "also receiving votes":

In terms of quality of opponent, I'm GUESSING TT is somewhere between Wazzu and UCLA. A very winnable game for the Bears. Shreveport is a haul from Lubbock too. I dont think their fans fill the stadium.

The majority of their alums and their students are in Dallas and Houston, 3 hrs drive to Shreveport, it would be a very friendly venue for them.

I said it depended on the health of the team but I thought something like 4 or 5 wins. The team did suffer quite a few injuries throughout the season but seemed to avoid catastrophic long term injuries to key players with the exception of Cindric, SJV and Sirmon. Normally injuries like that would have derailed the team and, for a while , the Sirmon injury seemed to have a deeply negative effect on our defense and the season. But the emergence Of Ulluave, the resilience of our OL under our new OL coach and the emergence of Mendoza kind of blunted those impacts. Injuries to Iffanse, Thomas and Cardwell (preseason) also were blunted by Ott's toughness and consistency and the incredible depth overall at RB.

In other words, the players stepped up and the new coaching hires panned out. Also, winning last night was the result of a perfect storm. Cal benefitted from the Garbers injury and some timely plays and turnovers. But I will never say Cal got lucky. Cal has been one of the unluckiest organizations in all of sports throughout it's history. The kind of luck they had last night was more kharma than anything else, balancing out Cal's history against UCLA, Cal's history in the pac-12 and the pac-12 history itself.

After our bowl win, it will be time to move on, but, ironically Cal may benefit as much as anybody from this re-alignment. Other than Arizona, one of the hottest teams in the NCAA, Cal is probably as likely to win a conference as anybody. Oregon will have to find a QB through the portal yet again, and they will have to face Ohio St. et al to win the conference. What will Washington be without Penix is anybody's guess, although their HC knows what he is doing. But most of Cal's key players will return and QB is secured for the foreseeable future, especially if SJV returns to provide depth and variety.

Notice I did not mention Utah as a likely to have a conference title. I am not convinced that Utah will continue to be the giant that they were the last decade plus. That is because Utah is likely to lose Wittingham sometime in the next few years and I don't think they will be the same afterwards. Wittingham is absolutely the best HC the pac-12 has ever seen, including Tedford, Pete Carrol, Don James and other future hall of famers. Utah, based on their talent pool, had no business being more than a mediocre team every year. Wittingham not only elevated them above that in some years, he elevated them nearly every year to near the top of the conference and he did it regardless of injury issues, assistant coaches leaving and recruiting limitations. He consistently not only beat the top teams in the conference, he frequently blew them out, especially in Salt Lake. And he put a ton of players in the NFL. I imagine that he is working hard on developing and mentoring a quality replacement that will keep Utah relevant. And they will be. But they will not win another conference title without Wittingham unless they start to recruit better, which could happen with the move to the Big 12. We'll see. The only other coach out there that could rival Wittingham is Smith, but he is now gone to Michigan St. The Arizona coach is pretty good too but needs to do that consistently for about a decade to be in the same ballpark as Wittingham.

I was hopeful bc of the OC and OL coaching moves but I was tired of the Wilcoxian hand on the scales of opportunity, bad record of games decided with less than 3 points? I always want bowl eligibility period. That's my bar. Six wins or more for "most" (more than half) years. Doesn't seem too much to ask when you basically get to pick 3 of your matchups every year.

After the USC game, we were 3-5, I predicted a lopsided loss at Oregon but the distinct possibility of finishing out strong in the last 3 games and making a bowl at 6-6, based on the progress displayed against USC. I did get some flack for that.
