As the new kid on the block, we can chow down on our popcorn and see how this plays out.

I hope there is a huge judgement against FSU and Cal gets a nice payday.

I believe UC Berkeley and Stanford are funding the legal teams of both the ACC and fsu. Popcorn is paid for by nil donations.

But, of course, Cal will "donate" 70% of any payday back to our ACC opponents.

Happy, happy lawyers.

FSU's lawsuit is pretty flimsy. Contract law isn't generally that complicated, and there's very little in the allegations and causes of action that should worry the ACC. Seems designed more to placate donors and set the stage for a negotiated settlement. Not sure why the ACC would settle, though, absent a massive payday (and the pleasure of watching FSU flounder around in the SEC/B1G as a mediocre program). Nice to have a villain in the conference to take the place of USC.

The ACC can only settle if FSU's buyout is so massive (like $500 million) that no one else in the ACC could afford it. If the buyout is small, then effectively the grant of rights doesn't bind anyone.

Aren't large penalties to prevent breach considered as a way to invalidate contracts? I studied but never practiced law so I don't know if that was just law school crap.

It's a money game now and all conferences except SEC and Big10 will become dysfunctional, if they haven't already done so.

Yes the SEC and B1G are wealthy families, but I am sure they have their dysfunction too and just hide it better. Resentment towards those who undeservingly share in the family wealth? We had that and didn't know it until one day the L.A. schools just left. The difference is we now have an in-law who gets drunk and rages out in the street insulting everyone, is constantly in court and on the 6 O'clock news.

From what I hear, OSU is the USC/FSU of the B1G. And the SEC is getting Texas.

Actually, the SEC is The Righteous Gemstones, a whole family of FSUs, thoroughly dysfunctional but incredibly wealthy and the wealth only makes them even more dysfunctional.

This is not a large penalty. This is the rights that the conference used to deal with the TV networks. All they are doing is asking them to complete the deal.

The Penalty for leaving is 120 million. That is about 10% of the total deal for each school.

We definitely knew we had dysfunction and that it was U$C…our leadership and (most of?) the rest of the conference's leadership was asleep at the wheel and/or in denial that the Toejams would actually stab the rest of conference in the back as the signs were there all along with $C vetoing things that made sense.

We only have this perspective because we are beneficiaries of the revenue share agreement. If we were a blue blood, I would be shocked if we didn't act the same way
