Cal and Furd almost single-handedly putting the ACC medal count over the top in the NCAA might warrant a great opportunity for a billboard message in ACC country. Perhaps we could even get some Furd alums to pitch in for that?

88, the reality is that most people in the acc, sec & big 10 are only moderately (if at all) interested in the olympics, football rules supreme in the united states of america

nobody gives a **** about the sears cup standings or something

The SEC and Big 10 don't give a damn about Olympic medals. They know what counts, and it ain't the Olympic sports.

I wonder if this list includes Ryan Murphy. And probably others. Ryan obviously is a Cal guy and is still training at Cal although I am not sure if he is technically still enrolled in school.

Lots of Americans in every part of the country watch the Olympics, even though they care more about football. Maybe they should run some billboards thanking us for accepting the invitation!

Well, this count does not appear to include at least the golds that Marchand won in the pool for France...he swims (swam?) at ASU...will he follow Bowman to Texas and get big time NIL (big for swimming, that is) and then count his medals for the SEC?

Marchand was amazing in the 400 Medley. I never saw anyone looking so badass entering the pool venue, tinted goggles on, arena going nuts, weight of the whole country on his shoulders, then dominate start to finish, out -- seems like he was ahead by 20 meters the whole way.

LOL after this week's performance, he will never have to buy another beer, wine, cocktail or meal wherever he goes in the country and given his dominance, he'll build on the legend!

He's got excellent academic credentials, CS major, will be a senior next year. I guess if Bowman is going to Austin, he will indeed follow him there.

Quote:

Alongside his sports career, he earned a scientific baccalaureate with highest honors and pursued computer science studies at Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier University.[8]

Encouraged by his parents, both former swimmers who had the same experience in the United States, Lon Marchand settled in Arizona in August 2021. He justified his choice by expressing his desire to be coached by Bob Bowman, Michael Phelps' mentor. He was a junior during 202324 at Arizona State University, majoring in computer science.

A couple more pictures from Atlanta. Particularly love the one with Georgia Tech in the background (credit To BearCam for spotting that). Atlanta is absolutely Bear Territory!

Took me too long to figure this out, but these are actually two different locations.

The billboard in the first picture, as I mentioned earlier, is above Motorvation Atlanta, next to Interstates 75/85 South. The billboard in the second picture is not far away, but in the opposite direction of Interstates 75/85 North, after Anderson's Olympic Torch and adjacent to The Standard at Atlanta.

Live in Tallahassee until September 8: It is at N/S TENNESSEE ST. @ OCALA ST. Facing east as you head to FSU. The site is described as
Located in the heart of College town This board is in an area with many apartment complexes nearby that will generate a great deal of traffic. Many Florida State University students will be exposed to this board. Also exposed will be Tallahassee Community College students and faculty. The many car dealerships and manufactured home sites on West Tennessee Street will also produce traffic.

Huh. I applaud the initiative to support Cal Football, but this seems pretty misguided if you ask me.

I may be alone here, but it would seem to me that FB ads directed at ACC football team pages would be more targeted than a billboard. But I'm not the one investing in this, so that is just an idea.

The real issue is the choice to put our absolute worst asset front and center on the billboard next to our best asset. I doubt anyone in the world is scared of Justin Wilcox's 21-37 conference record.

Perhaps the purpose is to scare them with Ott but relieve those fears with Wilcox?

Otherwise why would anyone put that man on a poster? He isn't even on a poster in BART or on University Ave. Why would he be on a poster in Charlotte?

You might be over-analyzing this. We made a good move to introduce ourselves to our new conference.

Wilcox looks good on a billboard. If he doesn't succeed on the field pretty soon, he'll be gone.

Could be. But I think someone needs to point out the other possibility - that the guys who put this up under-analyzed this.

Billboards should promote things you are proud of and/or want others to know about.

Dirty laundry is best hidden in a hamper, not hung up on the line for all our new neighbors to see.

Justin Wilcox is simply not a strong pitch for Cal football. Cal has a lot of tradition, 5 national championships, a bunch of NFL players, etc.. And Ott is a really, really good running back.

So why put Ott next to a coach who precisely no one fears?

How is that a good introduction to Cal football?

If Wilcox is the face of the program, then we should put a paper bag over it - not put it on a billboard.

Heck, Tedford was red hot in 2006. But if we were going to the ACC back then, I would much rather us put up a poster with something like this, or this, or that awesome photo I can't seem to find right now with Jackson, Stevens, Hawkins, Jordan and Ta'ufo'ou(?).

Hey, I didn't pay for it. So I am a Monday morning quarterback on this. But in my view, it is a really bad look to showcase a guy who loses lots more games than he wins.

No you are not, And if you have a better idea about a fun way to introduce Cal football to the ACC, then please have it. No one is stopping you and IMHO Cal marketing definitely needs the help.

As noted in my first post, this was an idea to say that despite our record, Cal Football is taking this opportunity seriously, we appreciate the chance, and we are going to make the most of it. Also as noted, the hope is that Jaydn will blow up and that we will transition these billboards to a Heisman campaign. Fingers crossed,

But we both know that your real objections isn't which picture is used. You just want to run down anything and everything that anyone does to support the program. Don't create and fund billboards, don't donate to the Collective, etc. At least you aren't writing this in pidgin English, so that's an improvement I suppose.

So if you could go back to stopping billy goats from crossing bridges or whatever you do when you're not posting here, the rest of us will carry on and try to help Cal football as best we can.

Tallahassee is now live! I have to say, this is the funniest one of them all given the "enthusiasm" with which Cal's addition to the ACC has been greeted by FSU (in legal filings no less).

Full credit to ncbears for personally funding this one and making it happen. Another great example of a member of our community "doing" as opposed to "complaining,". God bless you. Go Bears!
