How about this:
What are your ideal TRAVEL schools.
If you could go to ANY away game, where would you most like to see Cal play, anywhere in the USA?
This is a tough one depending on what you value in a road trip, for me it would be a balance between the football part and the things to do nearby. Overall, it would be hard to imagine an overall better itinerary than the Notre Dame/Chicago trip a couple years ago. It had it all, game in a famous venue against iconic program, Wrigley field, Lake Michigan, killer food and culture options in Chicago, decent weather in September, easy travel, etc. A Cal W was the only thing I didn't get but it was a trip my entire family will never forget. From a pure football experience, I would lean Michigan, Penn St, LSU just off the top of my head, but they aren't quite as compelling to me based on the surrounding area. LSU has NOLA close by but the weather of a theoretical Sept matchup would be at least a minor points deduction. Some actual matchups I am interested in the coming years are actually Syracuse (Niagara, Cooperstown), BC (never been to Boston and love history of that area), and VT (enter Sandman), but none of these are probably marquee opponents, although VT tends to overperform from time to time.
