It is very telling that while the brothers won't talk to the writer, the parents are still very much keeping the "estrangement" in the news...
That does not appear to me to be a genuine attempt at reconciliation. From his mother's very firm position "on premarital sex" to expressing an concern "about him making a trip with his girlfriend and staying in the same hotel room with her" to the writer/press is certainly not accepting of her son.
Accepting that this is accurate, why would AR want to have anything to do with them...the more interaction with them the more fodder they have to blab about to whomever. Good for him for keeping people out of his life who are not accepting of him. Shame on them for continuing to keep the estrangement in the news and for blaming everyone but themselves for the situation.
This strikes me as a very odd take.
We really have no idea what the truth is here and I don't think anything in this story can lead to a firm conclusion that is "very telling". In fact, the author expressly says that.
Maybe the brothers refused to participate in the book because Arod had previously been upset that they were in the press? In that sense, the lack of participation might be an attempt to reconcile.
Maybe the parents participated because they want to get a message of reconciliation to Aaron. In the parts of read (not all), it seems that the parents are going out of their way not to talk dookie about Arod.
And even if everything is "accurate" (as you put it), lots of people have relationships with dysfunctional family members. And some do not. I know people who have relationships with one parent but not the other. Lots of permutations.
