Yeah that's crazy pessimistic. Gotta think that scenario means we only win home games against UC Davis, SDSU, Oregon State, & Furd in that scenario. Although that kind of would be an absolute floor I guess for the team. I think the 4th win that's the floor for the team and worst cast scenario would be Oregon State or Wake Forest.Oakbear said:

I believe that for the next season or two, the bowl games with a past PAC-12 affiliation will continue to invite teams that had been in the PAC-12 (including Oregon State and Washington State). So, it's very unlikely that two former Pac-12 teams will meet in a bowl game unless it's in the Playoffs. Most of the early bowl game projections I've seen have Cal in the Los Angeles Bowl against Boise State or Fresno State.Cal88 said:

The bowls agreed amongst themselves that, for this season and next, ex-Pac teams would be selected to fill Pac-12 bowl places rather than their new conference's bowl places.Cal88 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:I believe that for the next season or two, the bowl games with a past PAC-12 affiliation will continue to invite teams that had been in the PAC-12 (including Oregon State and Washington State). Let's say a bowl game has secured the right to match up a Big10 team vs a former Pac12, what would prevent it from picking, say, Cal vs UCLA, given that the latter also qualifies as being in the Big10??
I do fear that this team might struggle on these new, long road trips, but feel that they are more likely to win 5-7 games this season than just 4.Oakbear said:

For the purposes of this bowl season (and next?), except for the CFP, we will all pretend like the PAC-12 continued. So former PAC-12 will only fill PAC-12 contracted slots and cannot play former PAC-12 in the non-CFP bowls. However, I also think the bowls will avoid matching up a former PAC-12 team with a current conference member, so Cal won't be selected for a matchup that is PAC-12 vs ACC, for example.

Thing is, an all ex-Pac12 matchup from different post-realignment conferences makes the most sense for a western bowl, there is a lot of interest for these matchups among the P12 fan bases as well as the local CF fans. I wonder if there is some room for trading between bowls Monopoly-style.
I also wonder if down the road the ACC will end up picking up some of the ex-P12 designated bowls due to the presence of 2 CA and one TX team. Here are the current lineups:
Pac-12 Bowl Ties, Affiliations
The Pac-12 might be gone, resting, or rehabbing, but in the meantime, all of these bowls are still in play for the former member schools in other conferences, along with Oregon State and Washington State.
Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, and Washington will all be eligible for these bowls.
- Holiday Bowl vs ACC
- LA Bowl vs Mountain West
- Las Vegas Bowl vs SEC
- Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl vs Big 12
- Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl vs ACC
- Valero Alamo Bowl vs Big 12
ACC Bowl Ties, Affiliations
The ACC Champion will almost certainly be in the College Football Playoff and likely get a first round bye. After that, it's all determined on how many other ACC teams get into the expanded CFP.
As always, this will be be based on geography and best matchups. The conference vs conference tie-ins can be changed based on availability. If at all possible, repeat appearances from the previous season will try to be avoided.
Notre Dame is eligible for any of the ACC's bowl slots. There isn't a true pecking order here.
The former Pac-12 teams - Cal and Stanford - will remain eligible for the former Pac-12 bowl ties and affiliations. That means if any of those four aren't in the College Football Playoff, they'll be eligible for the Alamo, Independence, Holiday, LA, Las Vegas, and Sun bowls.
- Duke's Mayo Bowl vs Big Ten
- Fenway Bowl vs American Athletic
- Holiday Bowl vs TBD (it used to be the Pac-12)
- Go Bowling Military Bowl vs American Athletic
- Pinstripe Bowl vs Big Ten
- Pop-Tarts Bowl vs Big 12
- ReliaQuest Bowl vs SEC (or Big Ten)
- TaxSlayer Gator Bowl vs SEC
- Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl vs TBD (it used to be the Pac-12)
Alternate Affiliations, if available
- Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl vs AAC or SEC
- 76 Birmingham Bowl vs SEC or AAC
- SERVPRO First Responder Bowl vs SEC or AAC
Right now, I see only 2 western bowl locations in the ACC slate, the Sun and the Holiday.

There may be a theoretical outcome where, at the extreme, all the former PAC-12 teams are bowl eligible and as a result, not enough of their new conference mates are. In that case, maybe you could get a former PAC-12 vs former PAC-12 matchup?
