I figured they said something like that to the crowd after every GameDay . . . but as you say, they seemed legitimately impressed by how well the Cal crowd brought it for that show. Maybe Berkeley's reputation meant expectations were lower, but still, it WAS a memorable show (especially with Daniel making that kick).

I gotta say, I really love what the opening section told people about Cal:



Right there in just over a minute, you get perfect communication of what Cal football is ACTUALLY about (and not what the stereotypes are):

1. Cheers and chants everyone knows, led by yell leaders in shirts and ties.
2. Beautiful cheerleaders in classic-looking cheer outfits.
3. Amped-up and probably drunk students.
4. Classic buildings and architecture, festooned in the school colors for game day.
5. A kind of self-effacing attitude about the whole thing, given that the team is usually disappointing and that the students/alums are genuinely nerdy.
6. People who want to show up for football, if you just give them a good reason.

Aside from #5, it's just like any other classic college program you see on national TV regularly. And that bit is also pretty charming. The segment immediately after the theme song also highlighted the old stadium built on a fault line, another unique/charming piece of Cal football. ESPN did a great job showing how/why our program should be worthy of attention. It must have opened some eyes for viewers in the East who never really got a sense of that. Now, can the team/program capitalize on that? It's all been set up.

But I think the advantage of Memorial Glade is it's very wide open.

Outside of the game itself, the day was almost perfect. I kind of wished Lee Corso was there just to put on Oski's head to get the crowd pumped up.

Agreed the only classic gameday thing we didn't get.



Still think Rally com should escor Oski and the Axe out, and Oski give Corso the finger wag and deny him the head though.

Was La Burrita ever that good? Gordo's was better, my go-to place near(ish) campus for burritos, and in SF while living in the Richmond District, would go there after every soccer practice and game at GG Park.

A bit different than Cal's campus, but very nice. My daughter goes there so I went to this GameDay as well. The Cal version was better, they had sound issues for GameDay that morning in B'Town.
