I just rewatched the play during the break, and I have confirmed it. The players arms were around the receiver way before the ball got there.

I'm even envious of UCLA. They're probably the only FBS team with a HC on par with Wilcox but his contract only has a $5m buyout so they'll get someone new next year while we're stuck with Wilcox until the demise of Cal athletics in a couple of seasons.

More accurately, we bungle it because we start running the PAT team onto the field, only to realize we should go for 2, and by the time we get set we commit a 5 yard delay of game penalty. We then throw a tunnel screen that gets stopped at the 5 yard line.

Especially when Mendoza is 100% on throws over 10 yards over the middle of the field (counting the one that was overturned). It is idiocy to keep going with what isn't working and abandoning what is working.
