Selfishly, I hope he comes to Cal, but for the life of me I can't understand how any top tier HS player could look at this program and want to any part of what Wilcox is serving up.
What are top recruits looking for? Oh, I don't know, maybe playing for a winning team? Maybe not having to run for their life every play? Maybe not playing in front of a half empty stadium every Saturday? Are you arguing that these are desirable qualities? Or is it just that the Wilcox QB to NFL pipleline is enough of a draw for these kids?oski003 said:CalConor said:

Do you feel quarterbacks aren't being developed at Cal? What are top HS QB recruits looking for?
The last part is likely the biggest factor for JKS. At Oregon, he might be competing every year against an older QB who starred for another college team the previous year. Cal can credibly promise that JKS will have every opportunity to start and they won't bring in a portal QB to compete with him, i.e. would only bring one in if JKS is injured or hasn't succeeded after getting opportunities.BearGoggles said:
One of the things to keep in mind. Mendoza has had a really good year yet Cal gave Rogers some run. That helps in bringing in a young guy who wants to play early. My guess is they're telling him they'd like to give him similar playing time opportunities early. That won't happen at Oregon were Dante Moore and others are in the queue, not to mention that Oregon may add a qb from the portal again (like they did this year).

Well, you probably won't be able to say we're a winning team this time next week. Just like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that. Cal is not a winning program in the Wilcox era. That's not a hot take. It's just a fact. Academics is the only advantage we have.oski003 said:CalConor said:What are top recruits looking for? Some of your negatives are balanced by what BG posted above and some are simply not true. Cal's pass blocking is probably a little below average. It isn't atrocious. Our run blocking is back although the Jet averages almost 6 ypc. We also have won more games than we lost this season, which is in itself the definition of a winning team. I do agree that we aren't a top program who draws large local crowds.
Lol. My bad! I forgot that top tier recruits love playing for losing teams in half empty stadiums! Thanks for sharing ur vast knowledge# on the topic!Shocky1 said:

No kidding! Look at Wilcox's career conference record. Coaches with that record are now coordinators, at a lower level, ADs, announcers or retired.CalConor said:Well, you probably won't be able to say we're a winning team this time next week. Probably a pretty hard question considering the OC's that Wilcox has gone through. If you are asking from a Cal "historical perspective," then you can fall back on the QB's that Cal has had in fact played in the Super Bowl, etc...oski003 said:CalConor said:
