Anyone else hoping for something else than the LA Bowl

Obviously the crowd for Cal will be great for that LA Bowl. But playing UNLV, however good they are, just doesn't do it for me from an interest standpoint. Would love to play another P4 conference and particular a B1G or SEC team. Is there any sequence of events that would allow for this or are pretty much penciled in?

Possible:

1. ASU/Colorado miss the playoff
2. LA Bowl and Independence Bowl decide to pass over Cal in favor of UW/USC
3. Gasparilla Bowl takes us to fill its open ACC spot and we go against an SEC team

I'd prefer the LA Bowl.

Unless we beat SMU and fly up to the Holiday Bowl, the Vegas Bowl would be nasty since we would have to play an SEC team, such as LSU or even maybe Bama

Cal vs Bama would be wild! Who knows, by that time we might have everyone healthy. Would be tremendous amount of publicity that's for sure and I'd bet a lot of Bama players would t even suit up.

- Holiday is simply not possible due to the rules unless WSU loses to 2-9 Wyoming OR CU loses to an equally bad OSU

- in my opinion, vegas is a long shot even at 7 wins. I don't see vegas taking us over USC (which is why we needed SC to NOT be bowl eligible, but whatever)

- best bet is Gasparilla against quite possibly Florida (warm weather, possible SEC opponent, 1r from Disneyworld).

Yes. Wednesday during finals week is a crap time to play.

Gotta beat SMU to have a chance to play in anything better, and honestly if that happens the win over SMU means more anyway.

If you want a better bowl, ASU/Cu making playoffs is way more important than Cal beating SMU

I don't disagree - we'd lose less respect losing to Alabama than UNLV.

There's a bus that goes from near my home to a short walk from SoFi Stadium.

I would go if I didn't have to work.

If Cal wants to play in something other than "crap" bowls then Cal should win more games. Speaking as a survivor of last yea's Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana, I would be ecstatic to travel to LA and check out SoFi. Sounds great.

The game is at 6. What time do you get off work? I would come down from Santa Rosa for the game,

Go Bears!

LA Bowl favored by the Cal fans here in So Cal. UNLV is not chopped liver and it would be a great game!
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

ACC has 11 bowl teams already, not including Cal or Notre Dame. ACC has 10 bowl places not including playoff teams. Notre Dame takes one of those 10 places if they are not in the playoff. Also, NC State will become bowl eligible if they beat UNC today.

That means the ACC bowl places will all be filled, and Gasparilla will be unavailable to Cal, unless both of the following happen: UNC beats NC State, and two ACC teams plus Notre Dame make the playoff.

I could go...I work from home and my schedule is flexible. It's just that my prime working hours are in the evening. We'll see.

Well, beggars can't be choosers, so I'm ok with whatever bowl we get into, it means one more game to watch. If it's the LA Bowl, I will go. Attending a game at SoFi is a nice experience, at least it was 2 yrs ago when I went.

First time I ever heard a guy express excitement to take a bus across LA.
But good luck!!!

What does all this mean since Miami lost? They likely drop out of CFP. Means ACC only gets one team in with either Clemson or SMU.

SMU could still theoretically get in at large

Eh, I don't think so. They're saying tOSU is going to drop all the way out. Only way SMU gets in is if they win.

Not that anyone cares at this point, but after WSU against all odds coug'd it against 2-9 Wyoming, if cal had won today they'd almost assuredly be looking at the holiday bowl (assuming an ASU playoff appearance).

At this point we'd be very fortunate to get LA, as we clearly don't deserve it

If Houston beats BYU then the Big-12 Championship will be Arizona State and Colorado, along with Oregon that would put 2 former PAC-12 teams in the playoff, with Alamo taking the Big-12 loser, Holiday/Sun/Vegas taking Wazzu/SC/Washington, and presumably us to LA Bowl

The ACC standings don't affect our bowl prospects very much. We're in the Pac-12 legacy track.

So root for ASU or Colorado to win the Big 12.

SMU would be a 2-loss team going against a bunch of 3-loss teams for one of the last spots. They could totally still get in with a loss.

Heck, even Miami can't be ruled out here.

Yep that's exactly right.

If BYU loses tonight, then the big 12 loser/wsu would be fixed in either Alamo/holiday (per the rules)

Vegas almost assuredly takes SC

Sun 95% sure takes UW (bigger program, also avoids potential ACC rematch)

LA must take cal

So if BYU loses (it's a close game), you can start making plane and hotel reservations by tonight

The only way Miami would get in is if the committee decided to right the wrong of last year in excluding Florida State from the CFP. But I doubt that. For SMU - not a chance.
