The oddsmakers favored Hawaii, which surprised me a bit since Hawaii really has not been good at all in recent years, but looks like they had it right.

Unfortunately, that also may apply to Oregon State vs. us.

I agree, I root for Furd to barf. Looks like Furd improving though, instead of losing to UC Davis, they've stepped up their game.

you are assuming people want a pair of teams. They may just want 1. In which case they are our direct competition. I think at this point it is likely to be the latter.

Seriously bad 4th quarter clock management by Reich. Stanford got the ball in a tie game and ran a short run just before the 2 minute warning, so 2nd and 7. Instead of doing what worked all day (run), Reich then chooses 2 pass plays which were both incomplete, so punt. Hawaii gets it with 90 seconds left and begins driving into FG range. With 3 timeouts remaining, Reich uses none of them to give themselves a chance to get it back, except one to ice the kicker with 3 seconds left.

Back after everyone was screaming and yelling after the pac-12 implosion I was saying we should just move into the mountain West but virtually nobody but blue blood and a few others agreed with me.

He's 100% a placeholder. They announced when he took the job that it was just as a favor to Luck and only for one season; it's part of the reason they had so many guys transfer out (that and four straight 3-9 seasons).

To me though idk if Stanford being better or worse really changes anything about realignment so I'm not gonna root for them based on a hypothetical. And we haven't seen our team hit the field yet so I'm not gonna do a premature victory lap but . . . they looked really bad. Schematically, coaching (mis)management, talent, etc. The score looked closer than it really was, they were severely outclassed by a Mountain West opponent.

Their running game looked alright and their defense looked OK for stretches but they were much bigger than Hawaii so you expect that to a degree. But their complete inability to pass the ball with their lack of WR talent and Gulbranson under center was ugly. He should've thrown at least 5 picks on the day including a no-doubt pick 6 that was dropped. Who knows how good we'll look or if Stanford improves through the season by the time they play us but I think they're staring down the barrel of another 3-9 season, tons of offseason transfers, and the obvious coaching search after Reich. Things are not looking good at all for the state of their program

Good win for head coach Timmy Chang who was a great QB for Hawaii for 4 years 2000-2004.

Ben Gulbranson was 3rd string at Oregon State for 4 years. He's not a D1 QB. Smart guy though. Stanford is in a world of hurt.

Not sure Cal really NEEDS Furd to get into another conference if we are good enough to get an invite on our own. There is some thought that the B1G may view the two schools as a package deal right now, but who knows where it will be in a few years.

They did help us get to the ACC. The big Furd advocates (like Condi Rice) lobbied heavily for us as a package deal to the ACC. Stanford was pretty clear they didn't want to leave Cal behind. Stanford was still seen as the more desirable program (more recent success and better TV ratings), despite their attendance issues.

Alright I had to comeback to share this one from their Hawaii predictions thread courtesy of a user named skip75:

"I've put on my cardinal colored glasses and jumped on the Andrew Luck bandwagon - and will be hanging out with him Friday at the Game Day Eve event in Honolulu. Stanford wins 30-24 on the strength of edges at Head Coach (Frank Reich vs. Timmy Chang), QB (redshirt senior Ben Gulbranson vs. redshirt freshman Alejado), & PK (Emmet Kenney - career long FG of 52 yards vs. Kensei Matsuzawa - career long FG of 41 yards)."

Hahahah I should take betting advice from them and do the exact opposite. Reich didn't use his timeouts for a shot at tying and even when he used one to "ice" the kicker he did it before they lined up which is . . . not how that works. Gulbranson **** the bed while Alejado outperformed him while playing more than half the game on one leg. And Matsuzawa hit the game winning FG while Kennedy had a low one that got blocked. Wrong on all accounts and it made me smile
