Why was Oklahoma transfer RB Jaydn Ott listed 3rd on the depth chart?

Ott's banged up with a shoulder injury. Why risk further injury against Illinois State?

Ott sure seems to be injury prone. That's really going to limit his opportunities going forward.

That's not what the coach said as the reason. neither was it the reason the article gives. Both praise how great the other two look.

You're saying all the proprietary and/or confidential information about Ott's negotiations, injury and health status and everything else about him leaving were readily available on the that board? So if I ONLY subscribed to the paid board, I'd have as much inside information as Ott?
Wow, that's SOME board!

Maybe our coaching staff knew something we all didn't?
Like he was nursing another undisclosed injury?
And that's why efforts to retain him weren't as strong as people here expected?
Would be a sad tale for him if his RB days are already over.
Pure speculation on my part. Ultimately, I wish him well.

The entire RB room left, as did most of our WRs and our starting TE, but people are focusing their hate on Ott, who showed us loyalty after leading the conference in rushing in 2023 and left with a Cal degree.

Let me say first off, I have no knowledge of why Ott left CAL but I'll say from a football and legacy perspective, Jayden should have stayed here at CAL. He would have been all over the rushing record books and clearly the #1back here. He could had his name in the same conversation as Muncie, Best and Lynch as Cal running back royalty!

Healthy Ott is good but nowhere near as good as Muncie, Best and Lynch.

Absolutely nobody cares about any of that. Or at least if they do it is so far down the list that it barely factors in. He wants a career in football at the highest level. He made the decision based on where he thought he'd maximize the chances of getting that. We'll see if he is correct. But he didn't factor in whether a bunch of 70+ year olds from one school think he deserves to be talked about in the same breath as Chuck Muncie - a guy he almost assuredly has never heard of.

You obviously never experienced seeing the live goldfish in his clear plastic platform shoes.
how dare you?

In watching old highlights, what stands out about both Forsett and Vereen was their ability to make something out of absolutely nothing. Probably explains why they enjoyed relatively productive NFL careers. By contrast, Arrington was a great downhill back, but he had the luxury of holes the width of I-80. Ott didn't show Forsett's and Vereen's ability to escape from prison last year, for whatever reason--may have been the "lower body" injury--but IMO, it remains to be seen how his skills will translate to another program or to the next level.

Yeah, Vereen especially could be very shifty in tight spaces and had more power than Ott. He was also more dangerous as a receiver, though part of that just might be the offense we were running.

First stud Running back I ever saw live for any team, was sadly probably like ...Tommy Vardell. That guy was an absolute beast and I remember watching him rag dolling our team during one of the big games lol. We have never had a running back like that (Lynch was a sliver of Vardell but in college he was actually pretty trim down and pacey.) I miss so much teams lining up in the I formation with a beast fullback and tough tailback and saying "I dare you to stop me". The 1 on 1s with the fullback and Mike backer were always legendary. I'd like to see a team break the mold and return to that before I die lol.

Not sure if you knew this but being the "#1 back", "rushing records", "comparisons to Chuck Muncie, Best and Lynch as Cal royalty" - but that means absolute d.i.c.k. nowadays. And that goes for any college football program, not just ours. Its about securing financial terms in csse the NFL doesn't work out. No college player is going to care about holding the passing record for a school in a season. If he's 2nd on the chart, earning $500k for the season - its a win.
