Well, your guys did it.

I was actually very confident of a Gophers win until our most talented player made a totally out-of-character bonehead move and booted away the advantage.

Takeaways: (1) Our offensive line is not the asset we had hoped; tonight it looked like a liability. (2) Your defensive backs, especially your cornerbacks, were better than advertised.

Savor the flavor, Cal fans. You're sitting pretty. Looking at your upcoming competition, I'd say the Golden Bears are going to be ranked much sooner than the Golden Gophers.

I dunno man, you were gashing us in the 2nd half and your QB looked very good. A couple bad plays can turn a game, and tonight it did. Good luck the rest of the way.

Cal had a clean game tonight... something that happened very rarely in years past. TOs were the difference tonight.

That mishap on the punt is what usually happens to us. One big mistake that kills us in a close game. Up until that point, game could easily have gone either way.

Good luck with the rest of your schedule.

Thanks for your gracious post, everybody. You were worthy opponents. These teams play ten times, maybe each wins five. Best of luck going forward.

It was a really close game until the Perich muffed punt and subsequent Cal TD. The Gophers got themselves a good young QB and a really good OL that opened up some huge holes for your 3rd string RB (who was good enough to took advantage of them) and Brockington is a great weapon on the outside.

I'll be rooting for the Gophers for the rest of the year. Good luck!

I'll be watching Cal's season, too. I foresee at least eight wins for your team - probably more.

Thanks and good luck in the B1G, really hope you take down tOSU. Your QB is excellent and if you get your top RBs back you are going to be in the mix.

This is a pretty new team, new freshman QB, new backfield, receivers, DBs, PKs, so we were especially vulnerably early in the season. The team is going to keep getting better, 10+ wins is a good stretch goal given the schedule and trajectory.

Will be watching Minnesota and rooting for your in the B1G, good luck this season.

Your fans showed well. I spoke to many of them and they all were friendly and respectful

This is one reason college sports is great

Good luck the rest of the season , especially vs the ducks!

Thanks for your kind words. I'm not sure I would have been as good a sport if Minnesota had won. That was a close game that turned on one or two plays. Closer than the final score would suggest. I suspect if we played 10 times, both teams would be 5-5. Your young QB looks like a winner. I expect you'll do well the rest of the season and end up in a prominent bowl game.

Thanks

We won because we won the turnover battle.

We were also lucky your D made 2 good plays on the same play. If not for the tipped ball at the los that db may have got a pick 6.

I would disagree about your OL, I thought they were very good. Cal had a hard time getting pressure on the QB and Minnesota had two long drives where the OL dominated in the running game, against a strong Cal defense. You guys should be good there.

As you say, it was a close game and the punt muff turned it. Cal winning in the kicking game is a very new thing for us.

For the Gophers (upper-case "G") in Berkeley yesterday, I'd be interested in reading their observations about the game, our fans, the game-day vibe, etc.

I have not seen an opposing line as good as Minnesota's since Cal played Miami last year. I can see Minnesota ending in the upper tier of the B1G. They just need to play a cleaner game.

The box score is incredibly even between the two teams. TOs, a couple breaks, and some special passes by JKS determined the outcome of two very evenly matched teams.

I appreciate your opinion, but I thought our pass protection was inadequate. Run blocking seemed alright, though.

I was remiss, neglecting to mention your QB. He's great on his feet, calm and collected, scrambling to buy time and then making accurate throws. I was really impressed.

Well, the thing is that Cal also seems to have a good DL this year, so being able to keep your QB clean on a lot of clear passing downs was impressive to me.
