What does mean though, make Rolovich the coach?
Interim: Rivera head coach. Rolovich or better Troy Taylor OC.
*** is this board's fixation with Rolovich?
1. Harsin is the coach. When the offense does well it is on him. When it does poorly it is on him.
2. Rolovich overall record: 33-33. Conference Record 19-22. Consistent over both his teams. Why do we perceive the guy as some guru?
Here's my reasons for Rolo (and I rarely if ever say this on this board, but I very much believe I'm right in this situation)
1. You hire the person who is most likely to keep JKS. Period. I don't care if Rolo ends up not being the long term answer. Short term, this program's main goal is to keep JKS. He is that much of a program changer. From here on out, every single decision made needs to be made with JKS in mind
2. Cal is uniquely situated to dominate poly recruiting (due to our geography, diversity, academics, weather, etc). We can no longer rely on CA recruiting (for various reasons). The poly pipeline is our lifeline. We need a coach who can completely lean into that.
I think Rolo has shown sufficient competence as a HC (at very tough places to be successful at) where we know he's not going to be awful. There are also more superfluous reasons I like Rolo (such as he's a bay guy, he's inventive, he's a QB guy, etc) but none of these are that important.
Get me the guy who can keep JKs and keep the poly pipeline flowing. If Rolo is simply competent and he can do those two things, we're gonna win 8-10 games JKS' second and third year.
You'd be crazy not to just take that and say thank you and worry about the long term later.
Now if RR has someone on his list who is more likely to keep JKS and keep the poly pipeline going, I'm absolutely open to whoever that may be. But with the available information we have right now, no one here on this board can name someone more qualified to accomplish points 1 and 2.
