The Wagner Seahawks will be make or break in 2026.

Tick tock. The clock is still running and Wilsux is still somehow employed as Cal football's head coach.
Not sure why you are redundantly keeping time on it?
Rivera has pretty much said he'll base his assessment on the full year. You may disagree, and it could change based on the next two games (my opinion) but that's on the record from Rivera.
That's fair enough, I guess. But if the SDSU massacre wasn't enough to provide RR with information on Wilsux's abilities as a HC, then I'm not sure RR is the right person to be a GM. Being fair to Wilcox is one thing, but it's not the most important thing. Turning Cal into a winning football organization capable of challenging for playoffs and championships is the goal. At a minimum, those two games made it readily apparent that JW isn't the right man for the job. A good leader would've replaced him with someone else who at least shows some potential to do so. For some reason RE sat on his hands, instead of.
Rivera pointed it out early in his hiring he was looking at 8-9 wins this season. Cal wasn't in a complete collapse. Yes it was a very bad loss. They were 3-0 before that game. And they won the next game. Time will tell here shortly, and I'm not advocating for Wilcox, but saying Rivera isn't the right guy to decide is pretty weak. He's been on multiple staffs and has hired and fired multiple coaches in his career. He knows what's at stake and has publicly said Cal has to win. Asking every week why it hasn't happened is a waste of time. The next two weeks should tip the scale, one way or another.
Rivera has never said if he doesn't win 8-9 he's gone. Just like the others never said conference championships or gone. We do not yet know what his standard is.
No other team keeps a coach after SDSU.
And nowhere in my post did I say Rivera said he'd fire anyone at 8-9 wins. But I did take his suggestion that 8-9 wins is where we should be. And yes he said that publicly and I was there when he did.
But I do think that much can change in the next two weeks.

Yes but a lot of people are taking it as a minimum or he's gone to try and make people stop complaining.
And again, I heard him say it too, but Cal used to always say the goal was conference championships so I don't see that beating up on 4 non conference opponents and going 4-4 or 5-3 is awesome.

I wouldn't ask daily, but clearly it is in part rhetorical. I think he knows it is unlikely to happen on Wednesday.
It is not how I would do it, but I think it is reasonable for fans to say, I don't care if the decision won't happen for a month, I'm going to remind them every day what I think needs to happen until it happens. Cal has a history of not being in touch with the fans even when you hit them over the head with it.
Who is he "reminding"? Are you under the impression that Cal admin is reading Growls and taking head of the postings of an anonymous fan who almost certainly gives little or no $$ to Cal football? His posts are literally doing nothing to change Cal's history of not being in touch.
As you acknowledge, we know that Wilcox will not be fired anytime soon (i.e., closer to the end of the season or after the season). The larger point is that incessant posting "tick tock" or the equivalent adds nothing to this board or the Cal community.
If it does nothing else, it personally helps my sanity to know every effing day that there are others in this community that are like minded and willing to speak out.
Wilcox should have been fired every day since the SDSU game. (well every day for the past 3 years minimum, but I'll take the SDSU game) The fact that we haven't and I don't believe we will doesn't mean I agree with it or that I don't think people should express their opinion daily.
I would remind you that Knowlton wasn't going to fire Wyking until he got screamed at when that became apparent.
I know Ron doesn't read this board. I'm very positive somebody in the AD reads this board. That has actually been pretty obvious on occasion. Other fans read this board. Donors read this board. Hell, if anything Greg reads this board and he is clearly listened to at times. When influential alums wanted to give Ron the keys, in addition to withholding money they posted on this board which probably got others to withhold money. So they must have thought posting here is influential. Spending the next month trying to develop a groundswell so if Rivera doesn't fire him, he gets the Wyking treatment and changes his mind, is valid.
And even if it has zero impact, this is what fan boards are for. You clicked on this thread. You know what it is about. It's not his responsibility to not post because those that don't like to read it just can't help clicking on a thread that is clear in its aims. He could be really annoying and post a new thread every day.
If you wish to start a thread and post every day. "Hooray! Wilcox is still our coach today. Please renew him Ron!" be my guest.
Again, it isn't what I would do, but you know what annoys many of us? Waking up every day with Wilcox still here. That is a little more annoying to many of us than a thread that everyone can choose to click on or not.

Is there a world in which Ron takes over as HC and JW takes on DC role?
Yes, there's a lot of strategies if there is no money to fire him, we can make Ron co-head coach and demand no one listen to him. we can make him Defensive coordinator until its clear he can no longer do that and then Ron states don't listen to him either or we can send a hot freshmen, short of 18 to his office and then fire him for cause, if you know what i mean. They did that successfully in the SEC to a coach. (Not head coach) and it worked perfectly. Again, we are desperate and we don't need any permission to implement the SEC "Final Solution". (Of course I'm Joking - Kind of - Don't ban me Greg)

I find it funny that you're seeking sanity (others might say validation) in the comfort of repetitive and meaningless postings on a bulletin board. But you do you.
And nothing in my posts is a defense of Wilcox. I want him fired and fully expect he won't be coaching Cal in 2026. I'll be angry if he is. But I don't feel the need to post that 10 times a day or demand things that are completely unrealistic (i.e., that he be fired after the SDSU loss). I expect him to be fired when it makes the most sense for the Cal football program - not when it serves my selfish desire for immediate action but puts the program in a bad position.
Keep dreaming that irrational rantings on the free board of a website do or should have an impact on Rivera, Lyons or the donors who read the board. And yes - demanding that they tarmac Wilcox after SDSU is completely irrational to the point of being absurd.
You're seriously misguided in conflating the impact/intent of Greg/donors posting here to achieve their goals (giving the keys to Ron) with the value/impact of what you and others post on Growls. Ultimately, $$ matters. The people who post here and donate big $$ have some influence - and those are not the people repeatedly posting to demand Wilcox be tarmacked. I am quite confident those people are communicating with Rivera and/or Lyons directly, not via growls.

And there it is. The inevitable other shoe. We start with the shut up because I don't like that your opinion exists post. And when that doesn't work we move on to the "You think anyone gives a shyte about your little opinions. Opinions are for people with money. Not for people like you" like you are an English lord talking to a bunch of pig farmers. And we are really talking about your opinion of us. Not Cal's or Rivera's. Here's the tell. "free board". As if Lyons or Rivera or anyone at Cal cares whether someone pays a few bucks a month to post on a premium board. They don't. You do.
It has been a great failing of Cal in the past that they have shown far too little caring about the average fan and what that has lead to is the average fans leaving in droves. One of the things that I think is an important change with Lyons and Rivera (not proven, but it is my opinion, we'll see) is that they do care what we think. I do think Lyons is a fan, so he has been one of us. I do think Rivera as a player knows that dollar bills don't make noise for players on Saturdays.
And you may scoff, but there are very expensive services out there that almost every major company uses that mine the internet for mentions of them, and context and tone analysis. If the equivalent of "Cal Sucks" or "Fire Wilcox" is on the internet, they know about it. Social engagement is important because the pig farmers do in fact matter.
This board does a massive, free service to Cal because it takes a sampling of the most ardent Cal fans and puts their opinions all in one place. And while you guys want to believe it is a couple of guys, look at the stars. Frankly, double digit stars on a post is generally a lot. When Greg made his post, the first response was a "Thanks Greg" post. 7 stars. The second post was a "I'm frustrated and want to see 18 threads a day" post - 19 stars. And 3 to 1 is about how the stars are running here. My post about the problem with asking for patience has 28 stars. Do I think me and 28 others are turning the tide? No. But it is kind of like cock roaches. For every one you see there are a shyte ton more crawling around in the walls that you don't see. This board is and indicator and what it indicates is that overall the Cal fan base that still cares is really mad right now. That matters even if you don't think we are worthy of having an opinion.
The people you think don't matter are the difference between 30K or maybe even 20K fans at a game and 50K or 60K. And if nothing else, maybe the extra engagement and excitement and atmosphere we bring impresses one of the people you think do matter into thinking this is something on the rise and worth investing in.
NOT firing Wilcox after SDSU is far more irrational and absurd than firing him. What would that have solved? I don't know. Maybe replacing a 47-53 head coach with an 85-36 head coach sitting on staff might have turned the season around with 8 games left. Maybe it wouldn't have. But it also would have sent a message to the players and everyone from the media to recruits that Cal doesn't find that acceptable anymore (and has joined the ranks of every other P4 program). If you think it is irrational to fire a coach after a performance like that, you are a dinosaur in this game.
And a side note on "tarmac". You are just using that to be derisive to fans expressing some frustration. I don't want Wilcox to be fired on the tarmac. I want him to be respectfully called into Rivera's office and told, I'm sorry, coach, it isn't working. Time to go in a new direction. No one cares if he is fired on the tarmac. The want a change.
But all of these people who you think don't matter because of the dollars in their bank accounts would be the first ones posting over and over here completely psyched about an 8-0 start. Helping create excitement among Cal fans. Those would be the posts with the stars. Or, if Wilcox were fired, the excitement here would be palpable.
I know you aren't arguing to keep Wilcox. You are making the "Trust the Process" argument. Guys, just wait 2 months. The wheels are in motion. Things are happening. Well, sorry. We don't trust the process. But you know what? We desperately want to. Ball is in Cal's court.
And what you are doing is more than just not wanting to see these posts. The threads are obvious. You could easily avoid them. You don't want others to read them. That is the issue. So you tell people to shut up. And when they don't, you not only belittle their opinions, you belittle the importance of their opinions. It is simply an attempt to diminish those opinions in hopes others won't take them seriously. I believe in this case, that is a losing battle.
And, I don't know if Lyons and Rivera are going to do the right thing here. But Lyons has talked about football as alumni engagement and community engagement and how it can bring us together. Not "we need football to impress billionaires". I do think he gets the importance of the football fans and how something like GameDay last year is not achieved by billionaires. I think he knows we are important. And, if Cal still only cares about what big donors think and doesn't care about the average fan, we are lost.
