A door has finally been closed. Let's see if we can walk off the porch and turn the corner without tripping.

And playing like there was no urgency whatsoever. Both OL & DL got pushed around all evening. Besides the horrific loss at SDSU, this was the worst. IMHO, there is no excuse.

0-34 to San Diego State should have been the end but it did start the clock

Not like nobody saw that coming, but it's still a shock. Lose the Big Game by 21 pts to an inferior team, after a good win and a bye, something had to give.

In the recent football game on November 22, 2025, Stanford committed 6 penalties for 30 yards, while Cal had 13 penalties for 123 yards.

The average number of penalties per game in college football is approximately 6.2 for the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Conference averages can vary, with some conferences averaging around 6.1 to 6.8 penalties per game, while others like the Big Ten are closer to 4.8.

How much does Cal owe Wilcox for terminating him now?

Cal owes Wilcox $10,879,167.

Wow! Glad to be proven wrong as this is such a non-Cal move. Rivera must be doing well on the fundraising side to pull this off. Now, let's see who he manages to hire.

This amount pretty much equals the calimony money UCLA owes us?

Cal ranks #128 of 136 in penalties per game at 7.9

Below Cal is Auburn and Texas.
Miami is last at 8.2

Cal is #100 at 60.2 yards per game
At 25 ypg: Army is #1, Air Force #7 (mental discipline?)
Indiana #2
Last is 75 ypg

To be fair, Cal opponents are penalized nearly as much in yards and 1 flag less per game.

Cal rushing: 12 yards on 26 attempts 0.5 yards per carry. We are now last in the country behind Stanford in yards per carry (2.5).

Anyways, Wilcox made Rivera's decision easy.

Dieter is not wrong here and the mention of a power struggle is interesting. Does it impact the next hire? Will a coach want that much input from Rivera when prior to this new GM set-up they basically were kings of the castle?

This kind of assumed helplessness around Cal's program is exactly what we need a new coach to turn around.

Yes, but aren't we also taking in a much smaller media payout with the ACC media deal? I believe BarelyCareAnymore had some information on the current athletic finances and they were not good.

Exactly.

And the DL was shoved all over the place as well. furd had 159 yards rushing, most of it by Ford.

It was ridiculous.

Some Arizona State guy who is a Dallas Cowboys blogger thinks he has the scoop on the inner workings of Cal football? That's not credible.

I just assumed that the Rivera-Wilcox thing would be awkward. Suddenly, this guy is brought in as your boss who isn't really experienced as a college football administrator?

I really didn't think about it until I saw the picture below from last night of Rivera and Wilcox standing next to each other during the game. It just seemed that there would be some kind of boundaries during game play.

But I really didn't think about it this season because....a typical Wilcox season is him having a winning record in the OOC and struggling to get to bowl eligibility in conference play before the inevitable conference losing record and *** loss(es).

This season was typical Wilcox.

A born leader.

Cal spends money like the government.
From the Air Force Academy!

And a hockey guy! Actually he was Army and career Army before retiring. He was just at Air Force two years before Carol Christ inexplicably hired him.
amazing we lured him

Well, he was making something like $200k at Air Force and Cal ended up paying him $1.3 million a year with a guaranteed contract through 2029 after he "turned down Northwestern" THAT WE ARE STILL PAYING!, so yeah, it took a lot of money to lure a great, brilliant MAGA guy like him to liberal Berkeley from Colorado Springs…

Mostly likely the same 3-4 defense.

Wilcox and his staff had an eye for recruiting good defensive back and linebacker talent.

I think he might be referring to all the WRs and RBs we lost in the offseason, whom we also badly needed this season.
