Bears Land Commitment From Elite Hawaii OL Isaiah Bertola
Cal’s 2027 recruiting class continues to get bigger, better and stronger.
The Bears have earned the commitment of offensive lineman Isaiah Bertola out of Ewa Beach’s James Campbell High School — where quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele attended — over BYU and USC.
“The OV was amazing,” Bertola told Bear Insider of his Cal visit. “The amount of love they showed was unconditional. I really love Cal and can see myself in that Blue and Gold."
Bertola, 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, is a four-star recruit according to Rivals and is considered a top offensive lineman in Hawaii.
Bertola is just the latest of several Berkeley visitors to call the East Bay home for good.
“The coaches played a big part in my decision and they have a lot of Poly dudes I know at Cal. It’s like family for me there.
“Coach Tosh, he’s a great guy. He’s a really big part of this decision.”
The newest Bear can play both inside and outside but noted that’s he’s being looked at more as a tackle right now.
As for his playing style?
“I just want to bury someone,” the big OT said.
Bertola also chose Cal over offers from Texas, Oregon and more. He is expected to play tackle in Berkeley.
Bertola becomes the 20th commit of the 2027 class, joining 4 star QB commit Dane Weber WRs Charles Davis III (Westlake), Demare Dezeurn and Blake Gunter (Southlake, TX), RBs Jaxsen Stokes (Sierra Canyon) and AJ Antwon Sanders (CE King/Houston), TE Rahzario Edwards, OTs Amaziah Siale (Mission Viejo) and Josh Bunni (Cardinal Newman), DLs Troy Bowens (Sutter), Jaderian Jones (Dallas) and Miles Schirmer (Corona Centennial), edge Giovanni Hodge (Grant Union), LBs Elyjah Staples (Marquez-Huntington Park) and Gunnar Perry (Notre Dame Prep/Scottsdale, AZ), CB Duvay Williams (Junipero Serra), safety Myles Baker (Sierra Canyon) and IMG Academy kicker Zach Brien.
