Carson Perry Smiths dad was the starting QB for Oregon in 1992 and 1993. I feel old.

A lot of these offensive wins are just bad tackling and missed assignments by Wagner rather than us outscheming or out-executing them. At this rate we could beat the spread handily and I would be unenthused; this is unsustainable and not replicable vs the better teams on our roster who will have DI athletes and coaching

On the other hand most guys only played for a half and change so they should be rested for Clemson

I agree, but at that same time. Its better than struggling, and its about time to have the second and third stringers get same game experience.

Fair; it just doesn't put to bed my big lingering reservations. I don't believe talent is our problem and it's better to have rested, healthy talent but I want to see our staff putting guys in positions where they don't have to just be flat out better than the opposing player(s) because they won't always have as defined an edge as we have this week

It is why we never should have scheduled Wagner. It was just dumb, it serves no purpose (other than padding our stats). We even have to pay them to come across the country to do this. Plus we already play an East Coast conference schedule. San Jose State, Sac State, UC Davis, Nevada, Cal Poly, San Diego State, Hawaii, Oregon State…

Kicking is going to be a problem. O-Line as well

Correction: All phases of Special Teams are going to be a problem

We're in real trouble if, God forbid, JKS ever goes down. We've got nothing behind him.

We are going to need to go for it on 4th down once we are past the 50 as a rule.

Wilcox was 8-0 against FCS with an average margin of victory of 18 points. A few were uncomfortably close until the second half. Zero blowouts. Nothing like today. We did end up getting a few players from Davis and Idaho maybe as a result.

You chose not to go when you could have. "Fans" like you are part of the problem.

Sorry buddy.

I had a previous appointment down in Fremont picking up my new 2026 Porsche Macan GTS from a paint protection film shop.

I will be at Lafayette Art & Wine tomorrow if you want to stalk me further.
It's a CULT.

This game should have never happened.
Certainly not as Game #3 of the season.

This should have been nothing more than a practice/scrimmage exhibition.

And we paid $525,000 for this???

It's disgraceful.

Well - games over. Looks like we didn't cover. Only 3 pages on the game thread. That's got to be a historic low or close to it. How many peeps were at the game? Over $25k?

Is it me, or is our DL not a threat at all. I feel like we should've had more sacks and QB pressure .

Our DL and OL are both terrible. And even against this lowly competition.

Other than the aforementioned scheme questions that I still have (although it's understandable if they didn't break open the playbook for this game) there are a few things I was disappointed with:

1. Special Teams !!!
2. TE involvement (only 3 touches for the talented TE room on the day including the 2-pt conversion)
3. Middle of the field offense, including the lack of TE involvement, the best part of our offense last year was attacking the middle with JDJ. I wanna see late crossers, more slot involvement, TE leak routes and seams, RB arrow routes, etc. We are way too focused outside the hashes and numbers where JKS is elite but when it's the focal point of the offense it becomes easier to defend because of the lack of space, it also doesn't mesh as well with the balanced run game the staff is favoring and relying on
4. Smaller but I wanted to see Trevor Rodgers. Did I miss something and he's hurt? Or is he just not developing? I wanted the local guy to be good or at least a role player but at this point I'm beginning my to question whether he'll ever make a meaningful contribution in his California career.
5. Penalties (still not even close to playing clean and the longer that goes on for is concerning when the schedule gets tougher and the margin for error slimmer)
6. ZERO sacks! Idc if Wagner made a point of quick passes and the short game. That's unacceptable in any game, let alone a DII squad.
7. Still too many big plays given up and several sustained drives allowed against a lesser team. I know you rarely play perfectly and shut a team down but . . . c'mon, it's Wagner. We really should've suffocated them for 60 minutes or at least damn close to it.
8. Blocking. This could apply to lots of different areas of the game but the OL is the single most important determinant of winning or losing and I felt like a lot of plays were made in spite of them and not because of them. Sometimes 4 guys did their job and 1 came up short and sometimes it was more egregious. Regardless I expected more out of a P4 unit with continuity against a lower tier opponent.

Those are my quick hits and, yes, I highlighted only negatives because that's what you do against weaker teams. Against elite teams I would spotlight what went right (win or lose) but to me these are the main takeaways to look at moving forward -many of them continuing themes on the early season- and to hopefully address as we head into the meat of our schedule

There's was decent pressure (lots of throwaways), but yeah no sacks was concerning.

We put decent pressure on their qb. We adjusted with lupa spying. I am not that worried on that and defense is getting better. O is a hot mess with execution miatakes.

What I will say for the O is that timing between JKS and the receivers did seem better this time. Yeah, it's against weak competition but it did look better.

That won't mean much if the blocking continues to be this poor. There won't be enough time to get the ball to those receivers.
