There's better pics from the Construction Insider via Calfan's OP. I'm a little surprised that the walls of the SAHPC against Memorial Stadium haven't been poured, yet, while they're preparing the 2nd floor pour on the far south-side (photo 102).

I'm not a structural engineer, but it seems to me that what you're seeing in Photo 102 is a surface to walk on, nothing more.

***************

I talked to a structural engineers and asked him to comment on the photos. He agreed with me that the rebar on the left hand side of Photo 102 is for the wall next to (but separate from) the Stadium. He also said that based on other photos (see Photo 84, for instance), it's certain that the wall for the first floor was poured all the way around the perimeter. That would include the wall adjacent to (but separaate from) the Stadium.

I'm a molecular biologist, so who am I to debate an engineer? I do know they poured a retaining wall around the site, but Pic 97 shows naked rebar to the ground floor of the SAHPC. I believe that rebar represents the walls of the SAHPC against Memorial. In addition, the rebar hasn't been placed at the last ramp into the site near the International house.

On your question about the walkways, I did watch the building of the parking garage at the PH Bart Station where they used the same technique of scaffoling and wood to pour cement for the levels above the ground level. I was at the site, today, and that's exactly what they're doing. The entire scaffolding area in pic 102 is covered with wood, and they are placing rebar onto it. I promise to furnish pics next thursday, when I'll be on campus, again.

thanks for the pictures jankowski. Great stuff.
Layman's thoughts:
Assume but hope these are all Union jobs.
Loved the CAL logo on safety vests...are those on Univ employees? Or just coincidence??
Anyone know if a video documentary is being made of this WHOLE process (yes, including our friendly treesitters)? IMO, it would make a great 2 hr. show for now and in the years to come.
Just by the amount of rebar visible (is this normal these days??) the place looks to be virtually bomb-proof, much less quake resistant!
Thanks again and Go BEARS!!

New pics of the SAHPC construction site on this foggy day! The proof is in the pudding, Mr. Dempster...

The construction is obviously moving forward at light speed, as the 2nd level was poured near the I-house during the week.

The following pic is looking back at the 2nd floor from the north-side of the Press box. It also shows the first floor is now complete.

There were multiple crews working on installing rebar.

There's one of the cameras that will never be used for our viewing pleasure.

Of course, this is a blind inference, but I believe the next pics show of a sloped meeting/lecture room. The flat wet area, clearly seen in the 2nd and 3rd pic, is the bottom of the room, and steps are visible in both pics, too. I could see Tedford laying out the plans to his teams for the Rose Bowl.

More scaffoling was being built for the 2nd floor on the north-side. The red arm is pouring cement for a wall.

No but I would want to make sure that the employees are paid a fair wage and that everything is up to code.

Maybe you would prefer it if the contractors building the the SAHPC pick up their workers on the street corner's across from Truitt and White in West Berkeley. Pay them next to nothing and provide no OSHA protections.

Hey to save even more money maybe we could follow the building procedures common in certain foreign countries which ignore earthquake precautions.

The fact is that there are companies on the project with Spanish-speaking workers. Care to wager that they are not American citizens? At any rate, Obama only cares about bringing down our Capitalist System, not securing our borders, so this argument is ridiculous at least for the next 3 years. Back to the topic of this thread!

New Pics from 3/19... The pic are north to the south with some special ones of Jahvid Best working out for a Cleveland Brown's Scout. The 3rd level floor was being prepared for a pour on the South side. It looks to me like we will be walking on the SAHPC come September! Let's get to Jahvid's pictures, first. It was awesome to see him in person running at jet speed, again. When I got there, I knew I was watching Jahvid with his blazing speed, but I could not make out the affiliation of tall Scout who is wearing the White Shirt and White hat, nor that of his assistant in the white shirt. I walked past the Scout and his hot wife on my way out of Memorial, when I saw the Cleveland Brown decals on his clothing.

In this first pic, Jahvid was running downhill at the assistant. Jahvid would make his cut, then run towards the blue zig-zag cushions and show off his fancy feet that we all love.

Jahvid ran a number of routes, too. I don't think he dropped a single pass. Then again, the assistant didn't have a cannon of an arm.

Jahvid's 1 Fan was in attendance, too. As well, Several Bears were watching in admiration.

Now to the SAHPC where the Cement continues to be poured as the 2nd floor is expanding. I've noticed an increase in crews over the past 3 months, as the project seems to be moving faster, now.

The 3rd floor is being prepared for a pour in the upper right of this picture, while in the bottom center of the pic the 2nd floor is being built.

New ticket booths and a 2-store structure are going up on the south side.

Great pics, as always, jankoski.

Seeing that big crane with the ladders going up the middle, I had a flashback of treetard extraction. Oh, such fond memories.

Face facts, if there are undocumented Spanish-speaking workers on this or any other project, it's a clear indication that they are trying to make a better economic life for themselves and their families. There wouldn't be millions of them in the United States (whatever number it might be) if the economic conditions weren't attractive.

This situation isn't merely about President Obama: it's about people living in poverty outside of the Untied States coming to the US in an attempt to secure a better life for themselves and their familes.

Employers in many industries (most famously in construction, landscaping, hospitality (= hotels and retaurants), agriculture, and so on) take advantage of this increased labor supply by offering lower wages for the same job, and claim that they offer the job to undocumented workers because American workers won't accept the job at the wages offered (!). Of course, this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's also simple basic macro-economics.

It might interest you to know that the people who least want to secure the borders are employers in industries that famously employ undocumented immigrants to the United States.

As for your ridiculous characterization of the President of the United States, I doubt there could be a statement much more bitter than that.

Yeah, there are major changes to the look of the site every month as construction is really moving into overdrive. I also just noticed that the SAHPC Insider has posted new pics as well.

In Celebration of 2 1st Round draft picks, I thought it would be appropriate to post these new pics of the SAHPC.

Since I took my last pics about 3 weeks ago, there has been a lot of progress. Let's begin on the South Side with the ticket booth. Eat your heart out, neighbors!

The South-side of the SAHPC is rising after a few months of no activity. In the following pictures you're looking at the 2nd floor which is still being prepared for a pour.

I'm betting the square hole in the middle of the following pic represents a staircase for opposing teams to make their way from their locker room to Memorial Stadium. I hope they retain the ridiculous stairways in the Stadium. I always enjoyed heckling them as they slowly creep up them one by one.

I know this next pic looks like a painting, since I was maximizing my phone's lens, but you can see the blue building and a large white tent which will be the temporary buildings after Memorial is gutted.

Back to the SAHPC...

If you look at the worker on the far right bottom corner, you can see this area will have a high ceiling. On the other hand, the workers in the middle of the picture are between 2 areas: above them in the picture there's a high ceiling, while below them there's 2 stories for offices.

This picture shows a lot of variation in the platform for the pour. I'm guessing this is the roof/our walkway. It will be interesting to see how this pour turns out in a couple of weeks.

The North-side of the SAPHC is prepared for a pour.

I'll be back on campus in a month, so I imagine there will be a lot of new pics. Perhaps, I'll even sneak onto the new roof!:beer:

The May 13 update indicates that steel braces for the West Wall will be installed starting May 15 (which was this past Saturday).

The final pour for the exterior is scheduled for May 27 (Thursday).

The next pours for the deck is May 19 (Wednesday).

Framing interior walls begins May 17.

Prospect Lot activity includes excavation for an underground water storage tank and a storm drain line.

This will be my last posting of pics, since outside of the SAHPC is nearly complete, and I won't be heading on campus during the summer months. There are a few new aspects of the SAHPC, and I hope I was able to capture them for you all...

As previous done, I started on the south-side and made my way around to the north. In this first pics, it appears that pipes are still being installed on the south-side of the stadium.

The far south-side of the SAHPC is finally getting its last walls prepared for a pour.

This picture shows the great height of the SAHPC to the walkway behind the I-House.

In the following pics, you can see what appears to be an inner stairway.

Workers are completing the roof area of the large midsection of SAHPC.

The long single step in this following pic look evil to me. I'm hoping they don't intend to leave it, or they'll have a few rollin Cal fans before the games...

The north-side hasn't changed since I took my last set except for this really odd 2 store structure. I hope it is just a temporary thing, because it will be a ugly thumb welcoming fans on the north-side. Anyone know about its purpose?

Here's a different perspective an Entrance into the SAHPC from median on Piedmont Ave.

And, the final one of my SAHPC career.

Here's hoping the SAHPC Insider puts something up on their site to feed our interest before Fan Appreciation Day.

Go BEARS!

Great pics, thanks Jankoski.

A couple of notes: one, good to see that there is still a lot of greenery around the site, and two, it's a pretty massive project and structure, huge kudos to the Cal AD and the benefactors for making this possible!
