Isn't it convenient how we will never see the body, nor will there ever be any independent confirmation as to his death.
Bin Laden had nothing to do with 9/11 and has been dead for years. The late Benezir Bhutto admitted this shortly before her assasination. It sure looks good though and gets the country united as we move one step closer to WW 3 in the Middle East. Hoorah!

Sure hope this doesn't interefere with football season!

$10, it was one of his progeny. The world has one less madman but a few thousands more... Am I the only one worried about how this went down? If one of us ****es off some foreign country with just words a la Rushdie, Obama is going to deliver us on a silver platter with the trimmings. This violation of foreign turf is going to hurt us little people in the long run. Thanks a lot, Obama!

You are SICK dude! Go take your medicine.

Dude -- this was just barely announced 11 hours ago.

I'm sure Obama is going to present us with pics of the long-form version of the body later today.

His body has already been buried at sea as per respect to Muslim customs which require a body to be buried within 24 hours. I am sure this was done not out of respect to Bin Laden, but as not to offend radical Muslims who would use this against us.

And stuck a few pork chops under his head gear for good measure.

The other thing that makes me laugh is how a guy who hated the West didn't hate the lifestyle.

What a bastard.

One of the finest social documentaries of our time! Seriously, if you get past the silliness on the surface.

Movie starts out with a narrator talking about the social climate of today, making reference to smart people procreating in a controlled way(since they were SMART enough to know that having more than 2 kids, or having kids at ALL sometimes, was not a good financially) and stupid people kept having sex with stupid people, until we DUMBED DOWN SOCIETY. Classic movie, one of my favorites.

I didnt read all the thread yet, but did anyone see Boxer's first public comment released by her Press Secretary: Yay, REMEMBER, 10 years ago, I VOTED TO HUNT HIM DOWN(Im paraphrasing obviously) Instead of celebrating the action, she had to try and make it a sound bite about her. Good grief, why do we keep electing her.

Probably because the California Republican Party is in a shambles at the moment and routinely fails to put forward a viable challenger.

In her four US Senate elections, she has defeated a veritable Mt. Rushmore of mediocrity: Bruce Herschensohn, Matt Fong, Bill Jones and Carly Fiorina. Love or hate her, you have to admire her good luck!

Well, it's like being chased by a bear. You don't have to be faster than the bear, just faster than the person you're with.

You've got to assume it is accurate. Can you imagine the sh--storm if he showed up in a video after the announcement? Hard to believe that anyone would make that dumb an error.

Also the decision was made to storm the house and risk a fire fight and American blood rather than just dropping a drone on it and blowing it up. This was obviously done because they wanted to ensure he was captured/dead.

Good riddance on bin Laden. But truth be told, in the long run this is utterly irrelevant. It doesn't resolve much less solve anything in the big picture scheme of things.

bin Laden was just a symptom of two bigger issues. The first is the internal contradiction in Arabic (and to some extent Muslim) cultures between wanting respect/wanting to reclaim lost/occupied territories and yet refusing to fully enter the modern world by clinging to thousand year old superstitions. The second issue is an internal contradiction in Western countries. The Western public by and large shows absolute disdain for Arabs and the governmental policies of Western countries visa vie the Arab world reflects that. But that runs headlong into the overriding need/desire to deal with these countries constructively because A) their natural resources and B) to at least show symbolic support for the supposedly always successful ways for civilizing Western liberal democracy (aka the "new" Western superstition, err religion).

Neither of these two contradictions, one on the Arab side and one on the Western, is resolved by bin Laden' death. Even the "Arab Spring" revolts in Tunisia and Egypt are but symptoms of the same issues and resolve nothing. In five years time, we'll look back at bin Laden's death in the same way we look back now at Saddam Hussein's capture/death, or at Qaddafi's upcoming death - as a historical footnote. Saddam's death resolved nothing in Iraq and bin laden's death will have the same effect in Afganistan, i.e. no effect.

Congrats and a million thank yous to President Obama, his national security team, intelligence apparatus and special ops. It is great to have a President who works hard, smart and to completion.

remember torture doesn't work:

http://www.startribune.com/nation/121089124.html

That is not what was said about torture. Surely it "works" to some extent.
There point is that there are other methods of interrogation that work as well or better than torture. After all Sadaam Hussein and other high profile Iraqui gave tons of top secret info to a smart interrogator who did not use torture.

There have been multiple studies that torture yields less correct and effective information than other more intelligent means of interrogation.

When you add to the mix the fact that torture by one faction/side justifies and intensifies torture by the other faction/side. Then it becomes counter productive. Subjecting your own troops to increasing levels of torture.

Finally we add to the analysis that torture is not consistent with our philosophy as Americans going back to George washington, Abraham Lincoln, and in to all the wars that the US has fought.

But for some people torture is effective, it satisfies the "blood lust" to see your enemy suffer and scream. If that is all you want we can bring back the old fashioned gladiator competition as a "reality" show. We can call it "Survivor -- Colliseum."

I thought that was a biennial show starring our own Cal Bears.

Seriously though, a great post, 68G.

actually that's exactly what many people said. that it doesn't work. and yes i'm sure sometimes you get bad information. but i doubt we are going straight to the torture anyway. it isn't just blood lust. ineffective things don't last for thousands of years. it works. this is proof.
No, this isn't proof of sh!t. Nobody said "it never ever works". (John McCain by his own admission is living proof that it does.) The point has always been that torture generally produces a ton more bad info than good info, and there are a lot more effective ways of getting more reliable information from prisoners. Life isn't an episode of "24".

(Remember when Bush looked at us all and said "The U.S. doesn't torture?" Just sayin'.)
