After a few of our D studs rip their hearts out and shove them down their throats, they will have nothing to say. CAL in a rout.

I guess we're their little sisters of the poor. I hate to see what happens if such a sad-sack team as Cal somehow manages to beat them. :chainsaw

14-0 at the end of the first half (7-0 until the middle of the second quarter) isn't exactly comparable to our more recent first half ass kickings. the rails didn't really come off till the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

As I recall, Craig Stevens got a bad concussion on the opening kick return. I know Stevens was considered one of, if not the, toughest players on that team - especially as viewed by the players. I have heard, but not from a player personally, that the knock-out shot to Stevens had an effect on the team, and then when the offense sputtered a bit following that first long td play with SydQuan's cast, it just fell apart for us. We stayed close in score, but you could tell in watching the game that things weren't going well.

This.
As another who was there watching in person, we were most definitely shell-shocked by the noise, Stevens getting knocked out, and the early big plays. The fact that it was still relatively close at halftime had more to do with offensive miscues and conservative play-calling on their part than with us suddenly finding our footing...

Fresno State plays Nebraska the following week, and top 5 Boise State in Oct. Both are far more prestigious than Cal. Heck, Ole Miss at home is a better game than Cal. JMcKune is right. Playing Cal this year is no different than Fresno State playing Washington State or Oregon State in the 90s. Sure Cal is a solid program with talent but Bear fans shouldn't kid themselves. The Sept. 3 game is the 4th toughest game on the Bulldogs' OOC schedule

Pretty tough schedule. Boise, Nebraska are supposed to be good. Ole Miss, Cal, SDSU. Hawaii, Nevada, away. I'm impressed.

It's not really our motivation I'm worried about. I'm worried that Fresno St. will have hatred in their eyes and will play like wounded animals for the way we've "dissed" them over the years. I'm sure Pat Hill has told them that this is their one shot to show Cal who they are. Anyway, I think we will find out in the first 10 minutes whether we should be concerned. We knew we were in a for a long night about the first 10 minutes into the Nevada game. Just like the first 10 minutes of the Oregon State, $C games and Furd games. We tend to fold when we are pushed back. Or at least we did last year. I hope this team has a completely different character. Go Bears!
upsetof86;554414 said:
They hate us. They hate every team they play but Cal, another orbit of hate. So if we show them "respect" by not going after them early "to see how the game settles in," we will, in return for our kindness, get scored on early. Nevada was absolutely waiting on us the same way.
FSU has basically replaced their entire OL so I hope we go after Carr like he stole the last dollar from someone's momma AND tore her one best dress...make Carr ineffective and the game IS over. I bet they try to bubble screen us like crazy to test our new LB crew, keep our rush in check, and dare our smaller CBs to press and tackle well.

we have two close losses when cal had 3-9 teams. lose to fresno this year and expect a similar final record.
I'm kinda hoping they do that... I'm expecting to see U$C (again), Stanfurd, OSU, possibly UDub do that to us this year... might as well get used to it early.MinotStateBeav;554473 said:
I think Fresno is going to take a page out of USC's playbook with a lot of rolling playaction passes to move the pocket and launch point of the QB..and I think the game will be decided on if we have learned our lesson from last season.
march2397;554585 said:
Yep, but I doubt we will. Bears should have a very fine defense and Bulldogs have a young QB and questionable O-line. That alone should be enough.
drunkoski;554212 said:
the offense was most definetely scared stiff. carr isn't too unlike longshore in this regard. not a lot of experience, not too mobile. . . the d actually played decently the first half outside of the secondary. bishop, for instance, had an excellent game. we kind of gave up in the 3rd quarter though.

if so you've had some slow m-fers play at qb.
