that have been asked for a while on the boards in Thursday's post practice comments from Tedford, Pendergast and Lupoi: http://www.bearinsider.com/news/story.php?article=1482

>"It's always on game day to see what occurs and how our rotation is going to go," said defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi. "We were blessed last week to have a lot of 3-and-outs so when you have a lot of 3-and-outs, there's not much of a reason to do a lot of rotating cause your guys are fairly well-rested and ready to go for that next series. <

Well that does answer that question pretty definitively...

I do like that motto, Clancy: "if they don't score, we've got a good chance to win" - Its daring, incisive and shows a deep understanding of the game, its rules and history.

Also, IMHO, a big improvement over the Giants motto: "If they don't score, we've got a good chance to at least go to extra innings..."

And please don't ask me what's a motto.

He said it with a smile, if that makes it any clearer.

I think there were two turnovers on offense, not 3.

Love seeing these pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Moraga!! It's great to not just hear from JT. I really enjoy reading what other coaches are thinking about certain players and where they are in their development. Hope these keep coming during the season... Can I request hearing from Coach M and specific linemen next?:p

Indeed, a lot of questions swirling around here the past week were addressed, which I know makes me feel better.

Looking forward to see what Bryce McGovern does with the opportunity. His HS accomplishments are pretty remarkable and I'm happy he walked-on with Cal.

I guess our Bears are in the air now...

They need to put McGovern on a schollie. Any true freshman that gets playing time deserves one

MB, any chance Deandre Coleman gets a look at OL, since we are thin there and he has all the measurables to be the second coming of Tarik Glenn?

I vote this delusional fan suggestion #1 of the season to date (it's a popular one for sure). Any seconds?

Ain't gonna happen. The staff loves him where he is, he just needs more consistency but his potential is sky high.

It seems like we have greater need for quality personnel on OL, we're all set at DL with Tosh's recruiting and coaching.

You're forgetting (or did not see) MY suggestion to try Moala at fullback! Even though it was semi-tongue-in-cheek, I HAD THE #1 DELUSIONAL FAN SUGGESTION of the YEAR, dammit!

You gotta LOT of leapfroggin' to do to take that crown, my fellow Bear.

[Edit: Gotta disagree w/OD, above]

Actually I think Cal should line up and rotate in all of its 4 DLs (Moala, Coleman, and a couple of other beefy guys) and 5 OLs together on the offensive side of the ball. We would have Brock Mansion at QB since he is the biggest QB and best blocker. Then we would take Allison Greggor of the Cal women's cross country team and hand the ball off to her every single time. She is so thin she could hide behind the massive line, which would be impenetrable.

Although she is not explosive, Allison is tireless and she would run circles around the opposition. Eventually they would be puking by the end of the first half, totally worn down trying to break through these Cal monsters, and she would scamper into the end zone, scoring touchdown after touchdown with a huge smile on her face. Cal would flat-out dominate every opponent with a smothering nine-man line, and make history as having the first female D1 football player at a skill position.

Loni Hancock would tearfully praise this as a giant leap forward for equal rights. Tom Bates would finally realize his lifelong ambition to sing Cum-bay-yah with Zachary Running Wolf in the Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena. And Cal would have all ten of the ESPN top 10 plays of the day.:woohoo

Apparently they are in CO. Tiny took a dump already and backed-up the toilet with what was referred to as a Duraflame. Go Bears!

Coleman had more tackles than Hill, Owusu, Tipoti, and Payne last year, and he was only a RS frosh. He had the exact same number of tackles as Cameron Jordan in 2007 (When did people start seeing Cam as a star? He had consistency issues of his own, as I remember it.). We're a solid 2-deep at DE, but we're not deep enough to axe a promising SOPHOMORE after one game because of inconsistency. Guyton and Owusu are both gone after this year, so we can guarantee that he'll be a solid contributor even if he gets passed by every youngster currently on our team. Looking at King's progress and Scarlett playing more LB, he's got a great shot at starting next year. The move to OL would take at least a year of transition, so we're realistically talking about him starting no earlier than 2013 with a possibility (will he be better than guys who've been playing OL consistently for 3 or 4 years?) of being an upgrade as a backup in 2012. This move makes no sense.

Clogging up COlorado's offensive flow merely by moving his bowels. Nothing short of heroic.

It was a rhetorical question. Switching Deandre to OL makes about as much sense as switching Bigelow to D, AKA none.

berk18 says it better than I did.

I don't think the logic of moving a guy who played oline in hs is all that bad considering the depth issues for both positions.

I think it's a viable consideration given he played OL in high school. We are 2-3 deep on the DL with more Howitzers on the way and we are very thin on OL. Even if we load up with 4-5 frosh OL someone like Deandre Coleman would stagger the OL classes.

In fact it's a pretty darned good idea. It worked well for Tarik Glenn. Other than petty insults I have not seen one counterpoint that has given me pause to reconsider.

Do you really think we can take a guy who hasn't played a single snap as an OL in two to three years (I believe he didn't play OL his senior year of HS) and has never played OL at the college level (or even practiced it) and suddenly move him from DL to OL, during the season, without any time to learn the position, the responsibilities, Cal's blocking schemes (much more complicated than HS), etc?

Really?

Honestly, the fact that there are so many people that think this is even possible blows my mind. You have no idea what you are talking about. Period.

"He also noted that running backs coach Ron Gould determines the rotation and reps for running backs. "

I can't understand why the RB coach decides who's in the game. Different guys have different strengths and how those are utilized is an offensive coordinator decision. I can see the RB coach being involved, but the OC should get the players he wants in the game whenever he wants them.
