"Russ" did not cause Wes Welker to drop a ball that hit him in the hands with nobody near him. That was essentially the game.

Welker said the same thing during postgame comments.

That video is 45 minutes long. Could you give us a hint?

I saw that in 2006, when it originally aired, so I don't remember. I just remember Bubba Smith being really depressed at the end of that program.

this board is nuts, Eli and his receivers were clutch, Brady's receivers were out of sync in th 4th. A healthy gronk might get his hands on that hail mary. grt superbowl excpt no packers.

I wonder if this is the only time a go-ahead score in the last minute of the SUPER BOWL will be called a strategic error.
You could argue it's the second time -- the Packers let the Broncos score the game-winning touchdown in the SB so they could get the ball back, like the Pats did.

Interesting article.

Eli needs one more win to tie Peyton's playoff wins.

Absolutely this. There are plenty of other Super Bowls that were worse from a watchability standpoint. Lots of uncompetitive blowouts in there, and also some poorly-played contests. This was nowhere near the worst Super Bowl ever. That was probably this one:

It was a good game. Smashmouth football. Two coaches with good game plans-the Patriots defense played their best game of the year and the Giants frustrated Brady. A back and forth chess match and the team that made plays-the Manningham catch -won.

That's just dumb.

It's interesting though that on Brady's late-game miss of Gronkowski (resulting in an interception), the announcers faulted Gronk and his ankle sprain for not getting to the ball, and ESPN's Greg Garber calls it the game's "Worst decision" because it was "ordinarily a good idea. But, slowed by a high ankle sprain, Gronkowski, who was behind Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn, couldn't come down with the jump ball." Huh? Brady underthrew that ball by five yards; if Gronk was slowed by his ankle, why did he have to stop and wait for the ball to arrive? I think it's a case of facts getting in the way of the pregame storyline.

Yes but Gronk might have prevented the interception,

Yes, but the Pats were moving the ball. Didn't need the deep ball at that point.
They just needed to keep the ball away from the Giants and get even a FG.

Gisele Rips Patriots Receivers For Dropped Passes After Super Bowl Loss

I kind of agree with her. Those dropped passes at the end were just sad. Brady was also getting lots of pressure because his pocket wasn't holding.

Was an ok superbowl. I didn't really care going in and didn't care going out. Props to the giants.

It wasn't THAT damaging a play anyway. When a deep ball gets intercepted like that, it's effectively a punt. The Giants didn't score on their ensuing drive, and the Pats again got the ball back with a chance to put the game away. Where Brady really messed up was in missing Welker and Branch (who were open) on back-to-back passes that would have given them a first down and extended their 2nd-to-last drive. (Yeah, Welker maybe could have caught his, but it was still not a very accurate throw, high and behind the WR.)

Gisele at least seems passionate about the game and seems to have been paying attention. I bet a lot of NFL players would like that from their significant others . . .

perhaps but it would have been a tough play; when the ball is underthrown the defender is in a better position than the receiver to catch it. brady made a bad throw; gronk did fine.

I think there's a decent argument that if Gronk were not injured he would have been able to at least get his hands on the ball. Yes, it was underthrown, but Gronk is typically a very athletic TE who can get in on any jump-ball. He barely made the attempt on this one.

that's a good point and brady may have been thinking the same thing -- just get it up there -- but I still think brady didn't get it up there.

I read somewhere that the Pats only got 9 possessions thanks to Eli.

Usually they receive 12 per game.

If that was the key to happiness then Hollywood types wouldn't be divorcing every two years and hanging out in rehabs. I am sure Brady would trade that mansion and his high maintenance and narcissistic biach for another Super bowl ring any day of the week (not that a Super Bowl ring is the key to happiness either--I just bet Brady thinks that way).
