What is your prediction for the first loss in our new stadium?

Honestly, looking at the schedule, and Tedford's history (and the fact that Memorial should provide an even better home field advantage this year and next), I would be surprised if we saw a loss before 2013, and even then we have a pretty good advantage IMHO.

For example, Oregon in Berkeley has always been a strong game for Cal under Tedford (even when Oregon seemingly outclassed us). Add in the new stadium and pumped up 65,000, and just a little luck, and that is over...

The first Big Game in the New CMS will bring out a strong game from us, even more so than usual, I think.

With those two out of the way, our home slate looks downright nice for a undefeated-at-home 2012. (IMHO, Washington has NO CHANCE given the relative emotions going into the game... a bunch of people who dont understand the problem, against a bunch of people who think a massive betrayal has taken place... Game over).

Into 2013, Ohio State will be yet another CMS pasting of a big boy come West (especially if they manage to win in 2012).

The rest of the schedule is TBA, but USC at home would be the best bet, I think, and with some favorable development on our part, we might escape that...

That is my sunshine for this rainy day.

Cal will be 7-0 at home going into 2013, 13/14-0 at home going into 2014. :newnana:

Way to go Phantomfan!

Pessimistically: Nevada, since we struggled with the pistol last year at UCLA and before that, at Nevada.
Realistically: Stanford/Oregon
Optimistically: Never

He was the big difference. Nevada does not have comparable personnel to UCLA, and I have confidence that Cal will deal with the pistol this year. The first game in the new stadium..........I don't forsee a loss.

That Nevada team was special. The year before they were pretty good too, but knowing that team as well I knew Cal, I was one of the only people that predicted the curb stomping we got (everyone thought I was nuts talking about how Nevada would run all over us)...They won 13 games the year they beat us... Including "the best Boise St team ever."

Nevada will not compete with us next year.

They dont have the players... That Nevada we played knocked off BSU. This Nevada team is not the same beast.

UCLA would have won with no QB, and 10 chearleaders playing given Tedford's LA record. :-p

it was our not showing up for those road games - IMO. We should have won both games, but that opens up another conversation.....

We should beat both teams at home this season, but there are many other teams that pose problems - take your pick.

We've never really had much trouble at home in the JT era except to $C and Oregon State.

My problem is I don't have a clue how good this team is going to be. The defense is strong, maybe the strongest in a conference of offensive minded teams. The oline seems in shambles currently, but that could change if Gibson is really that good, and one of the frosh tackles can get some major minutes. Also, how good will the frosh WRs be when facing D1 level dbacks? If the offense doesn't come together, the first loss could be ASU.

If we get by Stanford/Oregon, then USC in the Pac-12 Championship Game (yes, that would mean we either beat USC on the road, or they somehow ended up with 2 losses).

I always hope for the best but I don't see how we beat Oregon next year. I think our offensive line and defensive scheme are still works in progress and the secondary is too vulnerable to big plays. But I would be glad to wrong about all of that and have hopes that the offensive line can gel with Blasquez and Michalchiz in their 2nd years. Meanwhile the only weekness I see with Oregon is at DT, but they are deep at DE and can probably mix and match.

Everything hinges on Maynard (again). He showed us last year that he can play pretty well against mediocre to bad defenses, but against fast and strong defenses his play was anything but stellar. If we get that kind of performance again, we're probably going to end up at roughly the same spot we were last year. If he can show considerable improvement we may just knock off Stanfurd, Oregon, or USC.
