Nah, Chapman tries to self-police every OT thread. It's not personal.

10/15/1988 freshman dorms, Cheney Hall. Celebrated with other students from LA the Gibson HR. 6 days later the Dodgers were champs. They never made it back until today. Finally. Cal making it to the Rose Bowl will be just as deep and meaningful. I'm gonna enjoy this one!!!

My personal history with MLB and the Dodgers:

1985: The earliest World Series I can remember, featuring the two Bretts.

1986: I was a huge Angels fan and a Wally Joyner fan and a Jose Canseco fan. Also a huge New York Mets fan. When my YMCA Day Camp was invited to march around the field of Dodger Stadium before a game, while being forced to wear Dodger shirts and Dodger hats, me and my friends yelled "Go Mets!" Also, around this time, my dad started taking me to Dodger games. (Actually, this may have happened earlier). We'd sit in the blue seats, sometimes the red seats. But never the yellow or orange seats. I think he got a discount through his union.

1987: I got my dad to take us to an Angels game in Anaheim. Nancy Reagan threw out the first pitch.

1988: Oooh, the Dodgers are good. I'm now a hardcore Dodgers fan. (I'm still in elementary school at this point.)

1989: My friend and I attended a game by ourselves at the top (red area). A night game. Near the end of the game, a guard let's us go to the bottom (expensive) seats. We wait by the visitors' dugout, and get Will Clark's autograph. We were so jubilant that we started wandering around the bowels of Dodger stadium. We see a guy standing by himself waiting for an elevator. It's Vin Scully! He behaves exactly like Vin Scully and kindly gives us his autograph.

1989: We sat in the home run seats. A group of us, and I sort of caught a ball. But not really. But I did take home a homerun ball. A homerun ball from batting practice.

1989-91: I'd go to Sunday afternoon games by myself, only $4. I'd chat with the pitchers in the bullpen. Then I'd wait outside the players' parking lot after the game and battle other kids to get autographs. I remember getting Daryl Strawberry's autograph by pulling a baseball out of my hand while we're in a mob. I also remember somebody trying to get run over by Orel Hershiser.

My last Dodger game was in 1991.

Anyways, I haven't been paying attention to the Dodgers all that much. I know there's a guy who doesn't know who Seinfeld is. I know there's a guy who was high school pals with Matthew Stafford. I know that a guy named Yu Darvish is on the team after thinking he wasn't going to be traded. I know that the guy that Jared Goff dissed is still on the team. I know that I like to use Tommy Lasorda as an example of a fat guy who likes to eat living into his 90s, so it really doesn't matter what you eat. It's all about genetics.

Since returning to L.A. last summer, I've been able to get my 90-something dad -- who watched Babe Ruth play -- access to baseball games on TV, and Dodger games. So I'll be watching the World Series with him, proud to have closely followed this special team for the past 365 minutes.

Thanks NYCGB. This thread will still be around when the Giants are back strong again. I think it will outlast most of us.

So, Dusty Baker is out at Washington after winning 95 games.

Maybe he can replace the guy at SF with the worst record in all of baseball?

So relieved to get game 1. Kershaw had a Kershaw-like performance. Keuchel was equally impressive save one pitch.

I'll be nervous until this series is over one way or the other

These teams are probably pretty evenly matched, man for man. Baseball is weird, so that doesn't always mean a competitive series, but it should be a good one.

I'll be around long after you're gone, *****. Just like I outlasted Shocky.

And for the record, I hate the Giants. I grew up despising Will Clark and Matt Williams.

Nope, not every thread, just OT threads about politics (which people like you and Dajo don't have the common sense to keep off a sports board) and threads like this one that are clearly against the spirit of the rules of the board and are inconsiderate to those who don't like the Giants or Dodgers.

This board is not a popularity contest for me. I'm not really here to make friends. I have plenty enough friends in the real world. Here, when I see something that is wrong, I make my voice heard. I like and respect about 10-20 posters on here...the rest, let me just say that I think there's an equal percentage of absolute idiots on this board as exists on the freeway or on BART or anywhere else in the real world. Given the association with Cal, I would have hoped for better, but that there's the truth.

Look at the size of Sandy Koufax' paw. His biography said he could hold 6 baseballs in each hand and that large hands played a big role in his wizardry as a pitcher.

Facing the Yankees in the 1963 World Series, Koufax beat Whitey Ford 52 in Game 1 and struck out 15 batters-including the first 5, breaking Carl Erskine's decade-old record of 14 (Gibson would break Koufax's record by striking out 17 Detroit Tigers in the 1968 World Series opener). After seeing Koufax's Game 1 performance, Yogi Berra said, "I can see how he won 25 games. What I don't understand is how he lost five,"[57] to which Maury Wills responded, "He didn't. We lost them for him." Wikipedia
