What is brown, orange, and 13 games back?

A turd.

What is brown, orange, and 17.5 games back?
What is blue and white and chokes every October?

1) The Dodgers won October 2020. Has following Cal football caused memory lapse?
2) Always good to give some old fashioned ribbing. . Giants fan(s) can be really sensitive about their recent craptitude.

Even Dodger fans know 2020 doesn't count.

A 162 game season involves dealing with injuries and adversity. Would the Dodgers have won more games, and gone farther in the postseason, if for example Buehler hadn't been hurt? Possibly. 2020 doesn't count for that reason.

Yes, 2020 was a real season. Yes, some fans are emotional and post stuff when upset. She is making a case for firing Dave Roberts, which I am not opposed to. If opposing fanbases actually cared about the Cal Bears like *****-slapped giants fans cared about the Dodgers, they'd also quote in-game and post game quotes on this board as proof something is true. The giants should keep building their roster in hopes of making the playoffs in 2028. You never know.

The last time you made a proclamation like that the Giants won the division and set a franchise record for wins. Please, keep it up. In the meantime, enjoy watching the rest of the playoffs with the rest of us!

The Dodgers need a better manager. The giants need Buster Posey.

The losers
1. San Francisco Giants. First, they lose out on Aaron Judge. Then they lose out on re-signing Carlos Rodon. Now they lose out on Correa. With all the top free agents off the board, that leaves their top signing as pitcher Sean Manaea - in an offseason when the Giants wanted to spend money and had gobs of it available. So it ends up as a complete disaster. They wanted a foundation-type face of the franchise and didn't get one. The rotation is now worse. The music stopped and the Giants were the ones left standing without a chair.

I've been patient with the current regime, knowing they are still in a rebuilding cycle (despite the miraculous 2021 results with an aging core).

This makes the Giants look cheap. I acknowledge that I can't possibly know what the "medical issue" was they flagged that made Correa look elsewhere. But it didn't seem to bother the other clubs so you really have to wonder.

FWIW this Dodgers fan thinks they look smart. If there's any medical issue for a guy getting a 13 year contract pause and take a look. Especially with a guy who has played 150 game exactly 1x in his entire career. If anything, I'd say this makes Correa look skittish and not committed to the Giants, and it makes Steve Cohen look impetuous. I bet a top dog Giants fans will be happy about this within 2 years.

Yes the missed on a major signing. But I'll bet on this one they dodged a bullet.

The Giants had a terrible off-season. Not finalizing their desperation move may be better than executing it. After failing miserably in free agency to get players that could compete with the Dodgers and Padres, they had overpaid for Correa. Giants fans should just give up baseball and watch Cardwell and Ott dominate the P12/10.

It was a weird off season. Teams gave away years and AAV money like it was candy on Halloween night. Nimmo 8 years @20m per? Cray cray. It was a bad cycle to be a buyer. It was weird seeing my Dodgers sit on the sidelines but apparently they really like some guys in their minor league system. If the Giants don't have guys to bring up themselves it's going to be a long season and 3rd place or worse finish. However, I'm convinced there are going to be a lot of trade possibilities soon enough where teams want to get out from under bigger contracts. Teams like the Giants can buy on the cheap then.

Well, if they had just not gotten Correa then that would be one thing. The issue is that they got him to sign an offer letter, had it announced all over the media, scheduled a press conference to announce the signing, and then on the day they cancelled it and a day or two later he's gone. That's more than just being frugal with money, that looks like plain old bungling. The existing players and any further prospective free agents can't think any of that looks good.

The Dodgers have had a very bad offseason. One of the worst in the league...until today. Now, of course, the Giants' offseason is unquestionably worse. But 003 is just always so juvenile in his/her trash talk. I'm excited for 003 to hit puberty and talk trash like an adult.

Edit to add: Interestingly, Dodgers fans like 003 should be upset about this whole thing. As I said in my next post, I had concerns the Giants thought signing Correa was the only big move they had to do. Instead he goes to the Dodgers' biggest NL pennant challenger, who almost every independent analyst would say are now a much better team on paper than the Dodgers. It would be a lot better for the Dodgers to have Correa on the Giants than the Mets, at this point.

I was excited about the Correa signing, because obviously the Giants have some catching up to do. But I was worried for a few reasons.

It never felt like a great fit. I don't know Correa that well, but the quick bolt to the Mets when the Giants wanted to re-negotiate sounds right. He didn't seem like an obvious Giant. To support this feeling, I think it's telling to consider how the Giants and Mets were going to play Correa defensively. The Giants were going to put him at short, despite the fact that Brandon Crawford has one more year on his deal and is expected to retire after that point. He is something like fifth all time in innings played exclusively at short stop. It struck me that they didn't tell Correa that they've got a short stop for one more year, and we are paying you a boat load of money, you can play third one one season. Nah, they were ready to kick Crawford to third or second or both. He then signs with the Mets, who already have his buddy Lindor, and now Correa has no problem moving to third - not just for one year for twelve. That screams "not a great fit" to me.

Also, I was concerned that the team thought this signing was IT. "We got a superstar!" First, he's not a superstar. He's very good and I still wish he was going to be a Giants, but he's a 2-time all star, not a superstar. However, to catch up with the Dodgers and Padres, the Giants need to do and spend so much more. They should have gotten Correa AND Rodon AND Conforto. And honestly they have the money and should have thrown more years and money at Judge to get him, too, plus those other names. Correa made me happy but also felt like a band-aid on a much larger wound, while allowing the team to champion the band-aid.

Most concerning is the report that (although it's likely coming from Boras) the "medical issue" the Giants were "concerned" about is not serious. When the press conference was canceled Tuesday I texted my buddies, "This better be a serious medical issue because it smells of buyer's remorse." Sure enough, reports are that the medical "issue" is an ankle injury he suffered eight years ago, at age 19. If that's the issue, it's a lame excuse, way over Farhan's head, and we are in Maloof territory: bumbling ownership that needs to sell the team. It's bad.

I must have struck a nerve with all of your cheap shots. The Dodgers had a plan to save money for next year, and they stuck to it. The Giants had a plan to not suck, and they couldn't stick to it. They announced a huge signing, it failed, and they still suck. I do appreciate your acknowledgement that it was bad for the competitive Dodgers for Correa to go to a competitive team instead of a team that sucks, like the Giants.

The Dodgers are only going to win 95 regular season games instead of 111. This year that may not be enough to finish ahead of the Padres. TBD. But they will still be very good.

Boras should be sued for misrepresentation. Meanwhile, the Giants went ahead and threw another 30million at a guy who say out all last year with an injury and has a career 250 average, and 30 more million for the barely-sub-5-era twin brother of the guy who lobs the ball underhand for the giants. i'm ashamed to be a fan at this point. lord farquad is a disaster.

Definitely looks like some major Boras shenanigans here. It was fishy just how quickly he ran to the Mets after the Giants raised some health questions about Correa.

I wouldn't put it past the Mets that they found nothing in the medical but just knew that if two teams raise medical concerns, it puts Boras/Correa in an extremely poor negotiating position. Would be an extremely shrewd move by the Mets. And I for one don't mind seeing boras squirm a bit.

Regardless, giants probably dodged a bullet with the Correa contract and probably don't look quite as stupid to the baseball world as they did just yesterday.

They should use their extra 350 and if they were planning to give ohtani 500 million, give him 800. The giants need something to revitalise the mission rock area (that they've invested billions in) and 800 to ohtani is a drop in the bucket compared to what he can bring as far as just increasing their real estate value.

Ohtani would kill it in the bay. Can stay in California and huge market for him in SF. NL West will be fun to watch in the coming years with dodgers/giants/padres all putting a ton of money up to compete.

My opinion on the Giants off-season is that they missed badly, but they also avoided an even worse mistake by committing huge money to a guy with serious injury concerns. By no means was this a good off-season for the Giants but they also avoided making it a catastrophic off-season

Vindicated from lying about Correa. They are definitely not vindicated from sucking, then trying to spend money so as not to suck, failing, and then still sucking. They did successfully make some terrible signings after they missed on Correa.

Ohtani, like snydergard, has said some hateful things about the city. He's not coming

All that stuff is only relevant if all offers are pretty much equal. Giants need to blow all other offers out of the water. Not like they don't have the need or the money

It's OK for a thread to completely violate board rules, as long as the mod(s) and owners of this site are Giants and/or Dodgers fans. OK, I get it. Not a good look at all, but I get it.

As for you other inconsiderate people who post in this thread, understand that your fellow board posters do not want to have to wade through this thread every time they visit the board. This has absolutely nothing to do with Cal or college football. There is a reason for the O/T board. Get it?

This is what happens when you allow a grandslam to the superior Thompson. Ex-giants suck too. Are the giants going to try to win games this year or are they going for high draft picks?
