I really have a hard time with you criticizing the east side of the stadium. I mean, the plans have been on the books for 8 years. Are you surprised about the results? The stadium is exactly as they described it.

The new stadium is great. I sit in Section T and if I want to go to the can, I can use the outhouse or walk about 150 feet and go to the bathrooms in section V. Big deal. Get over it.

If you can see no reason why there is such a stark difference between the east and the west, let me enlighten you. The west is not built INTO THE HILLSIDE. There actually is room under the west to build concessions and restrooms into the stadium.

Second - the other difference is THE WEST SIDE COSTS A LOT MORE TO SIT THERE. If you want seats in the 25 - 50 yard line, you need to cough up a heck of a lot more than the $300 donation per ticket. Go ahead and do that and enjoy your new seats with all of your amenities.

When all of the ESP tickets are sold, they will start building better seats on the East side, and fix the amenities. Clearly there is not demand for that now. There is also no demand to move the students away from the 50 yard line. So move to the other side or stop complaining.

Thank you for this post.

That is definitely true, especially the part about it being known for years that the east side was not being improved. But I even thought the west side (non_ESP) was too crowded to wait for concessions - I'm not going to wait in line for very long to pay for overpriced food and soda/water when there's a game going on.

But in support of East Siders, doesn't Cal make money off of concessions? And a decent amount? They really should be looking at how to make it as easy as possible to get the masses some concession items. On the east side, that could mean putting some things on witter... and by doing this less people would come over and crowd the west side. I also think they should set up more stands on goldman plaza, like a real grill and such (they might have had one, but again line way too long). My plan for now would be to sit in my seat, bring a bottle of water, watch the game and buy nothing.

Bathroom lines were much improved on the west side though, so that's good.

I'm with you. I'm too focused on the game to worry about food. I can do without the overpriced food for a few hours. I can eat Top Dog before and after the game to my heart's content (although Top Dog lines are out of control after the game; before the game I can either come early or they have that sidewalk thing).

Sir, you are mistaken.
Section T requires a $100 donation, $300 season ticket cost for a total of $400 per seat.

No, the east side no longer has any water fountains.
Other than that, and aluminum benches, the east side is pretty much as it was.

The stadium is beautiful.

Students should stay where they are...FOREVER.

There are sections on the west side where seats can be had for far less than the $300 donation you speak of. Sections A-E and Sections II-K.
In fact, I will suggest there are more Bear Backers on the East side then on the west. There is absolutely no reason why the east side should not have such a tent.

The hillside has nothing to do with it.
Were you aware that 6 months ago there were flush toilet bathrooms, showers and drinking fountains on the east side?
They were removed so that donors could park.

Perhaps you don't care.
Perhaps you do, but just don't pay attention.

Have you noticed that almost every concession stand on the east side has a hand washig station, as well as the hand washing stations near the porta-potties?

Do you have any idea why the concession stands on the west side do not?

What do you suppose might present as a problem as a result of a few percent of people sharing their "stuff" by leaving it on the outhouse door latches?

Got the picture yet?

And, according to you.....
You paid a $300 premium to partake in "stuff" sharing.

I really hope you don't get your money's worth.

Cheers!!

We have to put our resources behind the job creators. In my experience the east side is full of people looking for handouts and free water. They live off the munificence of others

Fan Question [That's me, Cal Geek, question was a bit different, transcriber got the gist of it]: There's been a lot of talk about Cal football struggling this year. It's had less success the last five years than the first five. What is your response?

I added bolding to points I thought were most interesting:
SB: There is no doubt. This season has not gone the way we wanted. The way we expect. Coach Tedford and all of the guys all share that frustration. No one wants to succeed more than Coach Tedford. And no one feels that disappointment in a 1 and 4 start more than Coach Tedford. He and I both are. Having said that, at Cal our entire campus is about excellence. Our players deserve to have their hard work rewarded with success. And our fans and our community deserve the pride of success.

We obviously have to take the measures to put us in the right direction for our players and our fans to be heading towards success. To have our players and our fans believe to expect success.

We've heard that there's a lot of football left. I hope that our fans continue to support the team and the players.

We've got a chance for success the rest of this season. We have a chance to go on a run. And that's what we've got to focus on right now.

Bottomline is that Cal football is the heart and soul of our campus spirit in so many ways and we have to find a way to be successful.

Comments below are from California Golden Blogs writer. Very similar reactions to some of the Bear Insider posters:
Quote:

It might not sound like anything notable, but this is probably the first time I haven't really heard unconditional support for our head coach. It certainly doesn't compare to the comments she was making a month ago about Tedford not being on the hot seat, although things have gone horribly wrong since that.

Obviously, on the face of it, it doesn't really imply that Sandy is thinking about making a change or that a change will be forthcoming. But it's hard to see her looking at 1-4 and seeing a successful football team by any measure. The pressure sounds like it's on, and will be for the rest of the season if the Bears keep on losing games.

I find the Eastside of the stadium just fine now. Everyone else is in the concourse, in the new special clubs or in the new plaza areas so it's not crowded. You can get a Top Dog, no lines at the porta-crappers and sunny during the day. The plaza areas during the night games should be interesting and fun.

Certainly shouldn't post what I am thinking on this one. I would truly be in the ka-ka.
