Tin foil hat I know, but c'mon. The level of frustration is unbearable. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.

I know what you're getting at and I have to admit I've thought the same too... and I hate conspiracy theories.

Glad I'm not the only one. No idea what it is really about but I'm not expecting to hear anything good about any injured players who have yet to play.

so, I know from watching too many interviews and ready too much about cal football, that Moose was actually 100% cleared to play. It was simply a pain issue. Now that Dykes has confirmed that the surgery involved cartilage, it further confirms the pain issue. He probably wouldn't really damage it anymore (why he's cleared to play), but the lack of cartilage is likely going to make his knee feel like crap. Pain tolerance.

This is why Sonny is like, "we have to be able to know the difference between injured and hurt". I think Sonny was including Moose in that and thinking he is more hurt than injured and that he should be on the field.

Oh well, hopefully they fix his knee, but I'm not sure how this will affect Moose going forward. There might be a staff issue.

This goes the same for Forbes. Forbes is cleared but his back just bugs him. It's going to be a chronic issue that will affect him for his whole career. I don't really expect much from him going forward. It's Hardy's spot now and I think he is doing well, and will be a good one for us.

As for Scarlett. He's actually not cleared to go. So, it's a different situation for him. I really hope he is back 100% next year, but I'm not expecting him back this year.

I'm going to take a wild guess that we'll hear next about Scarlett or Forbes being out for the season. It sounds like the defense has really soured against the coaching staff or something. What's the real story?

In fairness, I think what is going on with Moose is he has a redshirt year, so if it is clear he won't be healthy in the next couple weeks, might as well pull the plug now.

If I were going to be conspiracy oriented, I'd be more inclined to a lesser conspiracy that at this point they've accepted that this year's defense is beyond help and there is no point rushing guys back if they have a redshirt year or a possibility of a medical waiver. I actually don't think that is the case, but I think it is more likely than the players not coming back because they are down on the staff. Players want to play.

If it's a case of players being down on the staff, you'll see a "remarkably improved" Cal team on Saturday. For whatever reason, Cal players seem to treat UCLA as their big rival and put aside their attitude for that game.

Soooooooo... if you like betting on conspiracies, take Cal and the points this weekend.

Personally I don't think so. But Buh wasn't revered by his players really anywhere he's been. So it's possible.

That's an interesting distinction but, I suspect, perfectly valid for the person in pain. Brings to mind that scene from "North Dallas Forty" where the Nick Nolte character has to gobble a handful of pain meds before he can get out of bed.

Yeah, I wasn't being entirely serious and I think your hypothesis sounds much more reasonable.

Sounds like Scarlett's definitely not going to be available this year: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000259541/article/california-rules-de-brennan-scarlett-dt-mustafa-jalil-out-for-year

Quote:

head coach Sonny Dykes said Tuesday that the team is "past the point of no return" with Scarlett, a converted junior outside linebacker who has been sidelined with a hand injury.

I am certain that Jalil has not played at all. The only one of the 3 mentioned that played is Sebastian. And that was just for the 1st half of the opener. I think that you are allowed to play a half and still redshirt.

Still can't believe he had 10 tackles in one half.

Yeah, our defense was actually decent when he was running the lane and destroying people (including Colter). Thing's changed when he left the field and haven't come close since.
