Was very unusual indeed. Was Goff shaken up or something?

I think it was only two series. And a total dick move. Give him the rest of the game to see what he can do. It's not like we're playing for anything.

It was the right move to put Kline in, and it was the right move to pull him when they did.

Can you elaborate as to why you thought it was the right move to put Goff back in?

I'm sorry but what? by what standards? and if you are going to pull him to go back to goff? might as well go to hinder at that point right?

no, once you brought kline in just let him play out the game

edit: plus with the wind run the ball a few times too

Can't both be logically right. Pick one

Kline looked horrible. But he hasn't gotten a chance to prepare and start a game so I'm not sure how much you can conclude. I was in favor of giving him a chance to start a couple of games earlier in the season, but too late now.

It was psychologically wrong to take Kline out after two series. That move makes me hopelessly wonder about the staff's ability to motivate and push the right buttons.

I don't think Sonny could spell "cat" if you spotted him the "c" and the "a".

Yeah, initially I thought it was two but gave the benefit of the doubt to the staff. Because two would be so clowny!

I have to admit I have never seen that done at any level with the exception of when the substituted QB gets injured.

The other two times SD / TF put in Kline into a game with plenty of time left (1+ quarters), I recall Kline throwing the ball beforehand. So, it would interesting to find-out if that happened this time...

Also, those other two times Kline got sufficient time in games, he was called-in only when Goff had a serious ball security issues. That wasn't the case this time, which is interesting.

Getting yanked after just 7 passes though, that's odd. I realize that 3/7 isn't good course, but damn, it's just 2 drives. Crap, Goff started 2/5 on his first drive, and 2/3 on his 2nd drive. Kline's yards / attempt and QBR in the brief stint was actually better. Go figure...

It was out of character for them to make the QB switch when they did, then revert back so quickly. I suppose Kline has to be night & day better immediately, just like in the Oregon games to stay in?

With respect to the transfer talk, if indeed this in the cards for the young man, this type of BS is reason to not just to do so, but stay in the Pac-12.

Let's pick and chose some random act of Dykes' ineptness and overanalyze it to death.

Neither Kline or Goff are playing lights out, both are freshman, and Goff has definitely had his moments. Goff isn't the reason this team is 1-10. This team is 1-10 because they can't block, defend or coach. Kline has looked mediocre in his limited PT. I'm pretty positive we're 1-10 with Kline back there.

I don't know why there are several threads clamoring for Kline every time we're down 24-0. There are like 1,000 things wrong with this program ahead of the Goff/Kline debate.

I think Dykes believes that Goff is his QB now and for the future, so he wanted to put him back in as a confidence booster so he had an opportunity to do something positive in this game

I think that if Kline had done better, he would have kept Kline in longer, and possibly for the rest of the game. But frankly Kline looked very bad

I think both QBs should not run. Neither have speed, quickness, nor know how to run a football. I hope they stop trying to juke D1 safeties. Just get as many yards as you can and slide. If they do want to try to juke someone, just one cut and go, none of that jitter bug

However I think the real problem is our OL
Just very very bad

Kline should transfer, and I fully support his move if he decides to do so. Why play for an inept coaching staff?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree. The staff has chosen Goff and cannot afford to keep Kline around. They are going to devote the entire offseason to developing Goff. Having Kline gone will quiet his supporters as he wont be here to play. If Kline wants a chance to play he will need to transfer or have Goff get hurt.

Kline and Goff are both frosh in eligibility and that is not ideal for class balance. Since Goff has been selected, they now must find a way to move Kline out. Playing him 2 series and then pulling him will show Kline just how little the staff values him as a player.

Dude was treating his hands like they were pretty cold. No sleeve to warm them in, no gloves...

He got a super raw deal from the equipment manager and coaches.

It was equivalent to what the staff did to Goff in Oregon (no cold or wet ball drills, etc). They have no clue how to manage a team. It is extremely obvious.

At this point its almost hard not to question ulterior motives apart from ineptitude of the entire coaching staff if the equipment manager can't get get it right. Did Dykes bring in his own equipment manager too from La Tech???

I agree. Goff's performance had diminished to the point where he had to make a change if the goal was to still try and win. Then Kline came in and showed once again that he is simply too amped up, overthrows, and is very erratic. He provide a boost of energy, has a strong arm, and can scramble better than Goff--but he is far less accurate and he forces it even worse than Goff. Love the guy, but he's not as good as Goff right now.

After three series it was pretty plain to me that the best chance to win was to bring Goff back in and hope that sitting him would dial him in. But it didn't and the play calling continued to be very suspect.

Most on this board are so emotional about the QB decision--but Goff is our best QB right now (and he has some serious limitations in terms of being a leader, touch on long ball, forcing into coverage, and pre-electing his target and throwing underneath/over the top too often when the mid route is open).

They gave him credit for a TD.

Wrong again. The ONLY way to get over being too amped and all of the commensurate problems is to play more. First, you need to be prepared to play, then you need to get enough time to get comfortable, let the game slow down, and then you can do what you are physically able to do.
