I've carried this board on my back for years. I deserve this position and will also give God props (when we win)

DeWayne Walker should be HC with Sonny as his OC. Can't happen, but Sonny is (or may be) only good on the offense side of the ball. Sonny needs a head coach to lead him.

Our only hope of landing a good DC is that he thinks he's HC material and believes that should Sonny be fired he would have a chance at the job. Maybe Walker is indeed that guy.

Bring in Ed Orgeron as DC. Give him the ability to hire his own D coaches and let him exact revenge on U$C the best way possible by beating U$C. It's a risk, but Sonny D has to do something to shake things up and inspire confidence...

Not sure if this was said in jest or not, but that guy who is the Carolina HC, I just spoke with his secretary, apparently his calendar is too full to do an interview with Dykes this week.

yeah, but he might available in mid-Feb, depending on how well his QB throws. If we came to the Bears, he'd never have to worry about how well his QB throws, esp if down 48-14 in the 4th quarter, cause you know we own the 4th when down by 28+ points

No one who is any good will take this position bc Dykes is gone in 1-2 years. Too risky. Plus, you can't coach/play defense when the defense is on the field for 40 minutes a game.

Unemployed DC's like other people generally have bills to pay too. The green that comes from Cal is as good as any other I say.

I'm dreading the Manny Diaz hire. I have a sick feeling he is who they pick...I've seen him in a couple of the TFS videos. I distinctly remember this clown of a DC talking about the virtues of TFS from the defense's vantage point.

Tom Mutha F******g Holmoe

When Dykes leaves, he can take over the entire ship.

Well, if the Chancellor gets rid of Sandy, Holmoe could take over as AD, too

so he can cash those checks. No one else will want him as a DC after his time at Furd and last year.

No Manny!

Unless he is coming to open Raleigh's back up.

Disagree...Manny Diaz was incredibly hot at one point, and an incredible recruiter. I like the Walker suggestion only from the standpoint of having Pac-12 roots, but Diaz had success before some off years...

I suspect the order of the list would be:
1. Diaz
2. Walker
3. English

Not necessarily my preference, but Diaz has done the TFS circuit before and so is quite familiar with both of them. I also imagine he would be eager to get back on the horse after getting dumped by UT.
The timing of this move may suggest that Dykes was waiting, and perhaps that suggests Walker is more of a target now that the NFL season is over. Dykes also knows him, which might be a plus or a minus.
English is another logical candidate given his connections here.

All of these guys have blemishes on their records, but they also have track records that show that they can be good defensive coordinators. English and Walker in particular have been highly effective recruiters in CA in the past. Either of them would immediately become the best recruiter on the staff were they to get hired. I don't know about Diaz, but imagine he was at least pretty good at recruiting having been at UT.

Our offense is not such a liability from a TOP standpoint as even though we were getting blown out, our TOP was usually not that bad. The bigger issues with our defense were related to coaching (scheme, execution) and personnel (injuries). One of these guys could come in and make this a vastly improved defensive unit IMO. If we can have that and a nominally improved offense, we might actually manage to win a few conference games next year.

I am very, very heartened that Dykes made this move. Not sure what took him so longer, but the more important thing is that he made the move.

People keep saying English, but I don't think he takes a job this year after the rant he went on that got him fired. I would like to look at Shannon who did great as a DC and is an excellent recruiter.

Walker is my first choice (and was my first choice from the beginning), but I don't see Walker coming here.

English is my second choice. He's probably a miserable HC, but he was a very good DC while at Michigan. I think he'd be a nice fit and he's definitely available.

Walker or English would be great. Just someone who has had some success in an BCS conference team at DC not an up and coming position coach. Sonny needs a turnkey type of guy. Buh was not that. He was still cutting his teeth as a DC.

Louisville wants to chat with Narduzzi. I'd rather be a HC at Louisville than make a lateral move across country to be DC at Cal...unless of course he really desires to move to the west coast.

Sonny will not hire a defensive coordinator who is a better coach than he is or could replace him. No Randy Shannon even though he is available IMO. Probably another sycophant nobody has heard of.

Narduzzi already has a better job as DC at
MSU. Rumor has it that Petrino is going back to Ville-for real

LOL at all these names... Why not list Kirby Smart as an option... More likely it will be a former DC who is a position coach somewhere or someone like Todd Orlando
