maybe to clean the bathroom stalls after football games.

If he can help us, I'd take him back, but right now, he seems pretty toxic. He's lost a lot of credibility with the way he left us and the way he handled things at Washington.

Losing credibility usually happens when you display unethical and back stabbing qualities. Some kids probably like him because he relates well to them and is kind of buddy buddy. Adults in the room should know better.....

forgetting the emotion, still has to be no.

1) until the NCAA investigation clears, I would be worried about a show cause penalty, or limitations on his ability to recruit.

2) If I was a HC, I would have difficulty trusting him.

to be really honest, im not sure sonny has anything to lose by hiring lupoi back. to play devil's advocate...

-he can provide an immediate boost before signing day, possibly sway some recruits. the man can recruit.
-the penalties on lupoi, if any, are likely to come later on, maybe a year from now. Sonny may be gone by then anyway
-lupoi is a player favorite and can relate to the kids
-Sonny has nothing to lose as far as fans support because fans hate him anyway for going 1-11
-Sonny may be desperate as who wants to work for him on the defensive side of the ball. well that somebody will have to be desperate for a job themselves. someone like tosh

That's nice and all, and I'm sure many still love the guy. But NCAA INVESTIGATION. That's all you need to know. They're not little kids anymore. You can't just blindly wish all your obstacles away.

In the real world, investigations into serious job allegations will keep you from getting many jobs. Even at your alma mater.

If we're just ignoring the emotion, that's fine. But let's also do a balanced assessment of the guy:

Most of the people that he was charged with bringing in at CAL failed miserably in class. We can ill afford more problems given our horrible ratings.

His recruiting style when he went to UW from CAL exhibited a fairly well documented streak of misrepresentations. Yes, it happens all the time, but do we really want to have someone who is a loose cannon? Dirty recruting leads to problems.

His recruiting style at UW appears to have been tainted by NCAA violations. Same issue--why take on that risk?

You assert it will be immediate value. If that were the case, would it not be that UW's class would be leaving UW since Tosh is no longer there? Further, at best that is a one year wonder (especially if he commits new violations).

Yes, he is a guy folks can "relate to". There are others who can do that as well. Hardy, English, who knows. I'm not sure I understand why we'd want to take on a guy so toxic b/c he can play video games.

You assert Sonny has nothing to lose. CAL has a lot to lose if Lupoi continued his loose cannon tendencies and got us on probation (or, alternative, take on kids who fail only sinking the ship which Sonny appears to have righted--whatever other dismal failure Dykes has committed, at least the academics appear to be on the mend).

Finally, my impression from many is that Lupoi wasn't all that great of a DL coach. Great recruiter, but not so much otherwise. Maybe some of that was scheme related, but certainly doesn't sound like Tosh helped.

I get the idea of saying don't let your emotions cloud reasoned judgment. But Tosh is a problem on so many fronts it makes absolutely no sense to make that kind of decision. Whatever value he's got, others have without the toxicity of nuclear waste.

i get that tosh doesnt make any sense for its fans, alums, university reputation, Sandy, but he may make sense on a short leash for Sonny and for Sonny only. id put it at long odds, but couldnt rule out that it could happen for that reason, but i also dont think that it would happen as a DC but for his old position as a DL coach. your spot on in your assessment though of the situation

I don't think there's ever been a question about his route running abilities.

You guys still think lupoi is super hot? I can count how many of his recruits that worked out for us on one foot. Not all that glitters is gold man

desperate times call for desperate measures. I wouldn't have a problem bringing him back. But don't worry, there's 0 chance of it happening. No question it would help the program. He's kind of greasy, but that makes him a dime a dozen in college athletics.

I'm not saying there is. But I think he should focus on things like that as opposed to campaigning to bring back his Xbox buddy.

I would never give another dime to Cal nor attend another game if that piece of excrement was welcomed back to Cal. I'm fairly certain that many alumni feel the same way. In the grand scheme of things my opinion and donation level doesn't mean squat, but this being a fan forum, I am expressing my opinion.

He's under investigation by the NCAA
The players that are supporting have to look at the reality of the situation.

If he is clean and clear to work by the NCAA he should be evaluated like any other coach in the country.

If he is clean and the best candidate we should hire him.

Very much doubt his NCAA trouble will be cleared anytime soon.

Hope these players and former players would evaluate that issue before tweeting. Because he has a lot of issues that apparently are not resolved.
