Then why is this tread so full of 'who is this guy' and why a scholly?
I am not commenting on Chase because I haven't seen him. But your argument that everyone at Mater Dei is a baller and if we knew Mater Dei that fact alone would mean we shouldn't question an offer is ridiculous on its face. Most starters at Mater Dei, like most starters at DLS do not get BCS conference offers. Sorry, but if anything guys who at those schools get tons of exposure, so if they get two stars and no major offers it normally means that they were evaluated at that level vs. another guy who goes to a lesser known school and MAY get that rating because he was not seen very much. For instance, for myopic SoCals who don't know the Bay Area, a 4 star qb from a school like Marin Catholic has to make his own press clippings.
Which brings me to my second point. These pronouncements of every QB recruit beating out Goff are ridiculous. Goff had a fabulous HS career to match either guy, and was higher rated. Last year instead of running around with a bunch of 17 year olds or getting to develop his skills at practice as a redshirt, we got to see him develop real time, warts and all, and he is being punished for it. Frankly, the people that are so sure Rubenzer is going to come in and beat him out are either dramatically overrating Rubenzer (who is an excellent PROSPECT) or dramatically underrating Goff. Upping the ante and saying he is going to be third string in 2015 behind both guys is ridiculous. And, the Air Raid is most dependent on having an experienced QB that makes the right reads and delivers the ball accurately and on time. Running ability is nice to have, but this isn't Oregon's offense. Dykes (like Tedford) has run his offense with QBs that can run and those who can't. Foles wasn't exactly fleet of foot. Predicting that not one, but two guys that haven't even practiced at D1 are going to beat out Goff is both silly and disrespectful to Goff. He may well get beaten out at some point, but to say both guys are going to do it, and to say it without ever seeing them take a snap against D1 competition is ridiculous.
